  1. Hi guys, had a bit of a "reality check" situation regarding first aid today- and i was wondering, how many of you are on top of your first aid? by this i mean, not just "qualified", but how qualified? How regularly do you recap/ re- read you first aid manual (if you even own one)? Refresher courses? But what i really want to know is, how many of you have actually been in a serious situation where you needed to apply your knowledge, and how did you cope? And to those that havent been in such a situation (touch wood), how do you think you would cope in one? This question could, and does, relate to any accident/ emergency situation, not necessarily arb work. Thank in advance for any input on this.
  2. perhaps a well worded letter to the tree owner, detailing not only his liability and duty of care, but a written statement of the tree's condition, too. he may be unaware just how bad it is, he may be assuming that your client is exaggerating, etc. this might encourage him to pay for it himself as it is his responsibility (or should be). good luck!
  3. i wouldn't call myself a dog lover, but i have met some individual dogs which i got on with well. what annoys me sometimes is dog owners who assume that everyone else loves dogs, and lets them jump all over you/ strangers etc. i do prefer dogs to cats though:thumbup1:
  4. nearly spat me coffee out there. classic. theres always one who thinks they're gods gift to trees, but cant be bothered to get out and prove it
  5. haha! covert operations lol i like the weird ones though it keeps things interesting
  6. thanks for the encouragement:thumbup1: rang text client back but they had already had the job done, ok no worries i said, the woman on the phone then proceeded to take my contact details some connie hedge topping, little eucalyptus dismantle, and an acer thin reduce. hope i get the jobs haha contacts building up too, local odd job/ handyman has started passing my name on for tree work. sold some logs aswel! ok ll shut up now im starting to sound a bit cocky haha
  7. looks handy! welcome to the forum:thumbup1:

  11. in the last three days i have had five inquiries, which i am very very pleased about as it has been quiet the last couple of weeks (it appears that as soon as it starts raining, the phone stops ringing). these three were funny though: 1- conifer hedge, insisted on an "estimate" over the phone, even after i'd arranged the free quote for later on the same day! 2- fella wanted two prices, one for a fell, and one for a thin/ reduce, presumably in case he couldn't afford the fell... asked if i could just drive past the house and phone him back to give him the price as the tree is in the front garden. sorted! 3- someone texted me asking for a price for "removal of two 11ft conifers", didn't even leave a name or address haha. not complaining though! not braggin either, im just pleased that im gettin some work and wanted to share!
  12. sorry i agree, only really bad news if the tree is hangin over the house!
  13. sorry i wasn't being cheeky there but reading it back it might sound like im trying to get at you. i think for many arborists, especially those on the tools, prolonging the longevity of the tree without remedial surgery is a bit of a conflict of interests? i remember a thread about the future of arb, or something along those lines, refering to eco arb etc, where a couple of people were posting things like "there'l be nothing left for us to do!" that might explain some on the lack of interest? Not saying i agree with em! to me it sounds fascinating and i look forward to watching where this goes chris :thumbup1:
  14. i think that is the correct spelling! Kretzschmaria deusta, certainly bad news if that what it is
