  1. It was probably done as some sort of project or something that can be used for promotional work
  2. Don't worry too much about speed either. Lots of people think oh crap its a rescue I must do it super fast (real world yes obviously but never sacrificing your own safety). Your assessor isn't judging you on speed (though obviously don't fart around too much). Spend that extra 30seconds just before you descend doing a final check ... his prusik is tied correctly, hes attached to my D-rings, the krabs on my false anchor point are opposite facing etc, all checked, time to move. Far better than getting down 20secs earlier and then realising you've made a silly error, which is far worse to the assessor.
  3. Peeing down in Newcastle at the moment. Was over 60ft up a tree yesterday when lightening struck not far away at all .... think I set a new PB for descent time haha.
  4. Pretty sure thats just the magnum version isnt it.
  5. As in my sig, your defo keeping it arbo-real hahaha! ...whats next, bungee strop for the iron?
  6. Cool I've wanted some arb related ink for a while now but its tricky to design something that you'll remain happy with. I think yours is proper cool though!
  7. -.- Sore subject lol!! Was meant to be going but CS38/39 seemed a more sensible long term option. Would have gone purely on the fact Lamb Of God will be there .... my favourite metal band of all time!!! I saw Metallica at Wembley on their 2007 "Sick of the studio" tour supported by Mastodon, Machine Head ............... and Him of all bands lmao they just got bottled and abused all set haha. What an amazing gig though it was so good! The pits for MH were absolutely brutal haha. Best gig I've ever been to! Closely followed by when Black Dyke won the national brass band championship in 2004 at the royal albert hall ..... but thats a slightly different end of my music taste spectrum lol.
  8. Wow!! That is one frightening and incredible story at the same time. A groundsman I used to work with had a very similar story. It was a while ago now but I think what happened was shortly after giving birth her iron levels dropped to a dangerous low level to the point she nearly died also. The doctors managed to win her life though and they had a healthy baby girl . My mum is a nurse and I know she has helped many people through severe illnesses. Job satisfaction does not get any better than that and I'm very proud of her as are the many family members of patients she has helped over the last 11 years. A nurse can become a closest friend to those suffering long term and sadly there isn't always light at the end of the tunnel. She normally attends the patients funerals when this is the case through invite from the families. I can't help but feel angered when people slate the NHS or the fact that of footballers, fireman, police and nurses they are the lowest paid. Congratulations on the birth of your son . I wish you as a family all the very best for the future.
  9. Learn from it and put it behind you. The odd close call is part of this work.
  10. One golden rule we all follow is remain attached to the tree at ALL times ... with a ladder your at height with no attachments at all. No reason why you'd ever need one in my eyes, dense tree - do change overs, open tree - throwline ... sorted. One of the guys I've worked for using them for every tree ... IMO it's just as pain in the back side trying to extend a 3 stage ladder into a tree, due to the leverage effect the tiniest branch can prevent the ladder from going where you want it. But of course he never had to worry about this because it was always me that had to put it in for him .... would much rather just climb up, install and anchor and say there you go mate!
  11. Painful to watch haha
  12. This is an area that I've often wondered about with loosely tied VT's. I have asked loads of people this question but no one has ever really given a definite answer: Your ascending on a VT that has to be set each time, you slip before you've had a chance to set the knot ... would you A) Slip a distance before the knot sets or B) Simply hit the deck If the answer is B then surly it makes a 'sporty' VT a very dangerous knot to climb on :confused1: With my distel occasionally it will creep before I set it but it will never just not grip like some VT's.
  13. Definite improvement in my eyes
  14. Will be keeping an eye on this post Adam! I'm competant with basic vertical rigging and we have done a little on rigging out from a tree at college. We used a line running over a hedge into a field as the direction line with another line taking the load. I'm not sure if this is speedlining or is speedlining when a piece just falls down an angled rope? Many thanks for this thread though it will be very much appreciated
  15. Was cool to watch the features of the DMM in action. Plus as mentioned it is a sexy looking piece of kit, which is essential in arb when you are lowering someones sexy underwear to the floor ...
  16. ! Lower rings from now on then, thanks for that post.
  17. Looks cool Not sure if intended but isn't the first line a smaller font? Would it not look better all the same size as i think it draws your eye to landscaping rather than trees. This is only my opionion though so others may not agree. Nice work though!
  18. These guys are a very big deal in Canada/America Davey Tree : Expert Tree Service Since 1880 : Tree Service and Lawn Service for Your Home I was offered a job out there with them in Vancouver but I feel NZ is where I want to be ... really hope it isn't one of those opportunities that I later regret refusing.
  19. Still plenty of horsey, farmer and animal girls here at Kirkley lol trust me
  20. Comp, fancy dress, axe throwing, beer and free entry ... Count me in!
  21. Same with a stein non-locking tool clip. But I always run a girth hitch on the bag and end of rope as well through fear that a tool clip could undo .... launching a throw bag next to a busy road would be far from ideal haha
  22. Sorry bud should have made myself clearer! A soft link is a short sewn loop that goes between a rope grab for example and your harness. So if you had to cut yourself free from the strop you could easily do so. Tried to find a link but I can't get on the gustharts website at the moment.
  23. It's got to be this sort of thing that makes chainsaw accident statistics so high haha not trained arborists.
  24. Can we have the heat back please lol...
