  1. T.I.T.S ... Trotters Independant Tree Services haha
  2. Just given them a ring, position has been filled. Will have to keep looking. Thanks for the info though.
  3. I prune them regularly, never have any trouble with them, but I was told that they release cyanide when you burn them.
  4. Nice find mate, will give that a try.
  5. :laugh1:
  6. Happy birthday mate!
  7. I'm based just off the A12 near Ipswich, Suffolk mate. Hmmm yes and no in my opinion. I've been there since september 2008, and was taken on really as a basic worker. I paid over a monthes wages to get my basic chainsaw tickets, so now I can do basic treework for them. Just would be nice to recieve a slight increase, to reflect the extra responsibility I've taken on. I certainly don't feel hard done by, but feel now is the time to make the jump to proper tree work.
  8. Read this post from first page to here and found it very interesting. When I started off in landscaping, I did nothing but litter pick and changing public litter & dog bins for 7 monthes. I was learning nothing, which is ultimately why I left, but I knew that I was building up some figures in my bank. I think a low wage is bearable if your getting knowledge of the trade in return. I'm now 20 years old and have been working for a different large landscape company for over a year now. I started on £6ph, but the company put me through a college course 'train to gain' scheme thing and I got my NVQ 2 in Amenity Horticulture from it. They also sent me to London on a course that gave me my PA1 & PA6 chemical tickets. With the money I'd been saving I bought all my own chainsaw PPE and basic forestry tools and I've just successfully used the money I'd saved to put myself through my CS30 & CS31. My company will still not give me a pay rise and I can't see that I can learn anything about tree work with them. So I feel now is the time to start to move into the trade and I understand that I'm not going to be on £100 a day over night. So that's my story, now I'm faced with the tricky task of finding work without experience! My contribution to the topic though would be to NEVER leave a job on bad terms. Calling your old boss a tw*t as you walk, is only going to give you a bad name in industry. Thats my 2p anyway, sorry for the essay
  9. Without meaning to hi-jack the thread, but I'm considering the same choice myself. As a chainsaw novice, would a bigger saw (say an ms361) be a bit of a handful without the experience?
  10. I've just passed my cs30 & 31 this week. I paid £495 + vat for the training, £180 assessment fee, £68.50 for NPTC reg fees. Total came to £817.75.
  11. Thanks guys . Out of interest where did you do your forestry work mate? I've been advised to try contacting rendlesham forest and a company called potters. Did you have to supply your own saw? What should I expect money wise? I'm only on a basic £6ph in my current landscaping job. Cheers for your help mate
  12. Congrats buddy Number of minors does'nt matter I passed 1st time, got 10/11 minors can't remember which! Take it steady in your first year, try not to get shafted too much by insurance.
  13. Quick update, I now have my CS30 & CS31 tickets.
  14. Andy, please see PM. Thanks.
  15. Hi. I'm 20 years old and have been employed in landscaping (mainly hedgecutting) for the past 2 years. During this time I have obtained an NVQ level 2 qualification in amenity horticulture, as well as my PA1 & PA6 chemical tickets. Tomorrow I am taking an assessment for CS30 & CS31 chainsaw tickets. Ideally I think I would like to get into forestry, but I think any chainsaw operative job will help to give me some experience. If anybody knows anything that could be suitable or have any information that could help me I would be extremely grateful. I have all my own PPE, timber tongs, felling bar etc but don't have a saw. I'm based around Ipswich, Suffolk area. Many thanks, Will
