  1. I attach pictures of me climbing to my CV in emails ... Does'nt show how fast I am but it does sure that I'm not gonna bottle it 15ft off the deck Can prove that you can put a rigging system to use and get into decent working positions though. Don't have a recording device though that would be a good idea.
  2. Been a trumpet (well cornet initially because a trumpet was too heavy for me haha) player since I was a nipper (now nearly 23) so thats what I've done all my band/solo playing experience with and grade 8 distinction. Sax is a relatively new instrument for me so its more a case of applying my knowledge to the instrument itself. Playing wise I'm probs about grade 5 standard but hard to say as I'm self taught on this instrument and have yet to take an exam, probs won't bother until I'm ready for grade 6 (exams are expensive as an adult!!). Upon achieving grade 6 I will look to join a band on the sax, but whether its jazz, orchestral, big band I don't know yet.
  3. Tight for climbing ... I'd lose a fortune to a swearbox when I climb in a baggy hoody, never being able to find the D-rings. But tight fitting for polo shirts as well .... because I'm a tart and thats why we suffer the burn in the gym
  4. Medium please Steve
  5. 3x hour long sessions on the sax (scales, scales, more scales, some technical exercise work and then last 30mins working on long note tone). Then went to see my mate Becky's horse 'Franki' at her new yard then went for a flapjack and coffee sesh at the cafe next to Gustharts with her , then beasted my arms in the gym.
  6. Not just being a girl wanting to wear pads (honest ) but I was wondering if anyone wears knee pads for climbing? I have a buggered right knee from an old kickboxing injury (cartilage) and after a fast swing into a stem a few weeks back it triggered the pain again, could'nt walk properly for about a week and its still not right now. Strapping it up supports it but obviously doesn't protect against impact, so am thinking about getting a pad for it but don't won't to restrict my climbing obviously. I can grit my teeth and climb through the pain but don't want to be a cripple before I'm 25
  7. Go for it mate The pre-97 license is very handy, I've not been able to apply for a few jobs because I can't tow and I'm not over 25 for insurance ... so age has its advantages and disadvantages!

I just got some hiflex on friday but had stihl forestry trousers for 2 1/2years which I've kept for ground/forest work .... 1 nip from a silky (my fault obviously), the crotch has been stitched up a few times but not a mark other than that!

Get down to your nearest arb shop and try some on . For climbing you're a lot safer with Type C trousers (all round protection)
  12. I'll donate £50 for fuel .... should get 1 lap of the high street at least
  13. Love it Chris Let me know when you get it and I'll download some gangster 'choons' so we can cruise through Toon centre on a friday night blazin' "drop it like its hottttt, drop it like its hotttt!" Its not size its how you wiggle it around ...... Naaaaaaaaa
  14. I had a similar problem with my sequoia. The karabiners on the bridge would slip over the gold rings, really annoying when ascending then the 2" drop as you say. Hence why I got a ring (sequoias don't come with one). I know its not the same but just saying you are not alone with this type of problem! Ring sorted it for my issue though
  15. I do think its a shame at times about why customers want a tree out, sometimes when you have to remove a perfectly formed tree thats stood for many years for the sake of customer preferance,,, especially when the customer would rather look at a fence line at the end of their garden rather than an established healthy tree. As much as I respect trees most of the time I'd still go for the job, being an arborist is a job not a hobby and if they are adament they want it done then they'll just get someone else in anyway. Would always try to suggest an alternative though.
  16. I think the point that has to be made about devaluation of the industry is that insurance is insurance and tree work is tree work ... with any insurance quote cheap or expensive, your covered as a result so the product is the same so there is no need to pay more than you have to, likewise if one shop sells a rope for £150 and another sells the same rope for £200 then there is no logical sense in spending more. But the difference in tree work is that there is a variable quality factor, so a cheap 'jack of all trades' will not produce the same result as the mutts nutz tree surgeon with masses of experience. In which case your paying for a better service (though I know that there must be crap expensive arbs out there and also good guys that are too cheap)
  17. Thats why I went for hiflex, can't be feeling self-consious up a tree
  18. Chris I might buy a pink high viz for work just to pee you off
  19. I wish we had trucks like that
  20. Haha yep unless its something you know about that i don't like hand digging out a line of stumps Bought some new hiflex yesterday (I know you said not to lol but they were so comfy compared to others!) so need to repair the dent in my wallet I have one of your krabs on my harness still I realised yesterday, will give it back tomorrow Roll on some sunday morning chainsaw noise ... we're gonna be popular
  21. A lot will vary on your choice of rope combination. Also climbing system use is all down to personal preference otherwise we'd all be using the same knot/device. Practice low and slow always and try to test the knot in as many different ways as possible (i.e lower into it slowly (does it set instantly or creep?), try a very short drop into it (very low to the ground obviously), find out what happens when bits twist, does it catch on anything that could prevent the knot setting etc etc). All sounds a bit anal but knowing how your system reacts to different things is so valuable up at height. Experiment and stay safe
  22. As said you will just be asked questions. When I did mine a few years ago the assessor did'nt specifically sit me down and ask me 101 questions, just fired a few at me when I wasn't sawing, for example when I was filling up a saw he'd ask "In what scenario would you use a dogtooth cut?", "What distance must you be when felling a tree from another person felling?" or "When winching over a tree what is the weakest part in the system?" etc. Obviously it depends on individual assessors but mine was pretty laid back about the questions.
  23. My first impression was why did'nt it just get removed but did'nt post in case I was missing the point haha. Looks like its in a busy public area as well so I'd hate to have it on my conscience when it gets to the stage that it could fail if I were responsible for it. But from your perspective I'd say cracking job mate
  24. Sounds like a mewp job but obviously hard to judge without seeing it
  25. A second bridge ... wooo found a use for a small bit of prusik I have in my glove box haha
