  2. I always get them shut off3 weeks is the normal turn around where i am and some times they turn up with the mog platform and a bit of money for a breakfast and its your to use. Oh and its free to get them to turn the lines off (East anglia) because it saves them having to pay out to get the lines cleared/ call out for repairs.

  7. Does this qualify as a stunt fell? I thought we spend time trying to fell close to an object, why not just fell the object?

  11. Im sure the latin writing should be Sextus erectus pinus? Just from when we did latin. My teacher said it was the rudes tree thing he'd found 'meaning six upright pines'?
  12. Im glad that i wasn't the only one that thought it was over priced.
  13. In 10yrs i have only done 1 refsher course which is cs30/31 in 2008. I plan to do some more this year but wondered how many have or haven't so i post a simple poll just out of personal curiosity.
  14. I wreaked a hiab (not the one beechwoods now got the other one in the sale), felled a tree onto a transit which drove through the site and barrier tape passed the crew, whilst i had finsihed wedging it (apparently my fault as i should of took a wedge out not be walking away as the tree was going) Fun times they were.....
  15. A quick reduction from this morning + removal of a few bits n bobs. Wind was blowing an almighty all day:thumbdown: But the new truck does well!
  16. Depends on where you are tbh, networking, avaliabiltiy of work, competiton in the area, what kind of advertising is avaliable. tooo many variables to say. I take a very low wage from my buisness just enough to pay bills and put food on the table. Not even close to what i earned as a employed person.
  17. Smash, bash, cheers for the cash! Yeah i was thinking a tirfor would have save you some time, but as Mr Blair said it wouldn't of been as fun.
  18. Looks like he's dropped his boot in the pic/prosthetic limb:001_rolleyes:
  19. I wish it was, thats the problem.
  20. Does that mean the barbers chair i posted gets a 10 for style?
  21. Cheers Jonathan, good link:thumbup1:
  22. Yeah they have been informed that there will be loads of sawdust waste, for them its mainly trying to reclaim cost of the felling im doing. Timber will be milled to 3" in whatever lengths prob around 8ft stored and ratchted down. I know a bandsaw would be quicker and more effiecient but im not getting paid for doing it so i will buy another mill to fit my 395 and pay a subby to use the other one. Eventually i would like to buy a lucas as well but thats all for the future.
  23. Hmm, i think the main question is how well are you networked in your area? you say you have a couple of years climbing then you should know a few companies, why not give them a call and see how the land lays... If that seems a no go then stay employed imo. As for experience i will only hire climbers that other companies i know have used and said they are good enough not to cost you in time (as mark has pointed out already). Its a hard call that only you can decide as your the one thinking about it. None of us know really how much work is your way, there maybe tonnes or naff all. You could offer a trail days climbing at £75 i think that would get you some try-out days. Anyway best of luck if you do go for it and say goodbye to weekends, bank holidays, paid holiday, sick pay, and evenings.
  24. Looks like were going to have one hell of a camping area.
