  2. Hi interesting question, most of us duck and dive,ie jack of all! master of none, going on courses and learning from people in the know, taking snippits of information, and adapting it to your circumstances, get the correct tickets,be honest, charge rates that allow you to live, and eventually you`ll come good,,,I started part time working 3 days on regular wage,4 days craft,,now dont have a spare day,,,,
  3. hi after some cedar butts/ berkshire area for milling....
  4. have almost run out,,,and started splitting next yrs already,,,,mad,,but good,,,
  5. thats wicked mate well done,,,
  6. spent a day bending over backwards for the man "elton john",,,,did cilla blacks trees,,,and currently doing kate winslets,,,,,,,they pay the going rate,,so dont worry,,,
  7. need 56 square meters of cedar shingles, and 9meters of ridge tiles? + delivrery to andover(hants),,pm me you quotes and delivery time,,,,cheers
  8. :thumbup:mans got a plan
  9. if you`ve just spent 9k a yr studying countryside management and then find you cant get the 20-30k job you`d like because they have unlimited volunteers (who get (3k training),,,and because you have to volunteer first,? to get say job,,,,,thats why..work experience is fair play,,,retired people with an income taking newbies jobs is councils taking the p.ss
  10. if everybodys doing tree work voluntary,,,would you have a job??? (district councils train people before you try that angle) why offer a summer postion on lets say £5k when you can get somebody to do it for free?
  11. in which case they should,,tbh,,,as the people on the ground are on here,,,,reading bc have now decided to charge £50 to come out and visit a customer with a tpo tree, and request the trees surgeon puts in writting what he suggests the tree requires, where as before i`d be coming out to quote on whats been approved, now I make my recommendations,,on my first (free visit)then they either approve or not,,then I have to now make a seconf]d visit to give a price on what they`ve charged £50 to allow...madness,,,,surely this is mad???
  12. p.s got the ranger job for 5yrs,,but realised,,,were glorified park keepers answering to dog walkers,,,,tree surgery/crafts was my way forth,,,
  13. so disagree,,i applied for a job in the guardian, and thought "somebody must get em" all be it having done a one yr national diploma,,,,sometimes try and ride your luck, volunteers take peoples real jobs,,whilst there on there £50k IT job,,,there volunteering weekends and hols,,,taking positions, local councils love,,,free labour,,,and whilst I acept voluntering gives you work experience,,it shouldnt become a career,,,,
  14. Im one but subbie in help when I need it,,which is often, actually at least three days a week,,,!most of my guys work for two or three tree teams,,so we job share depending on who`s busiest,,,if I knew now, 15yrs ago that would be my line of thought,,,,
  15. just want to say thanks to my reading crew, who against all odds stuck at it today in torrential rain to hit the deadline,we couldnt rake up as it was floating,,,mad days like today make you realise what great lads I work with,,you know who you are,,,,,,
  16. thanks buddy have sent him an email..we`ll see...
  17. a tree that old deserves to live on in one way, dont know all circumstances,,,nice hes replacing tree,,would be nice to see the tree milled, sculptured or used for something,,but as no pics shown, dont know true picture, hope it didnt grow for firewood,,,,,(p.s am firewood supplier before you say anything)
  18. hi noticed that my 53'plate transit crewcab tipper body is wearing thin, and tailgate mullered, apart from going down crazy(although very nice) tipmaster route, where can I get a new steel replacement>at resonable price?
  19. had one till some low life(not allowed to express my true feelings,,hint hint)robbed it,,,pulled like daddy`o,,,hard ride when not loaded,,but have to say prefare my transit crewcab,,,,
  20. I personally prune all my fruit trees in spring, march time after frosts and just before growth spurts,,,if the customer cares about there trees, then your opion counts, sometimes they just want you to crack on,,,tough descion,,,,
