  3. have been using my japa sawbench (no splitter) for three days now,,blade version,,and am well happy with it,,,,its creates fine sawdust that local smallholding take for bedding animals down on,,,,,its much faster than a chainsaw,,far less tiring,,on my back,,,,and doesnt take two people,,,,,,couldnt aford processor at mo,,and till i source a regular supplier of timber to bring into my yard,,reckoned it would be £8k sat there doing nothing,,,so would choose the sawblade over chainsaw everytime,,,,

  5. i debated firewood processor,,but second hand ones are like rocking horse s..t...so decided that for £4k less i would by a sawbench(same blade as a processor)from fuelwood,well guarded and a splitter from riko,,,,this does excatly the same as a processor,,,,all be it more work,,,,but £4500 cheaper....thats a lot of money towards my employee,,hes iin a job,,and my back doesnt ache half as much,,,,,,not regrets here,,,
  6. nice job mate but would suggest you tried using a helmet with visa ,,,as if you`d seen mess on my subi`s face when he got a snag and yanked it free,,,believe me you` d wear a visa,,,,,,,,

  8. yep decided to go sawbench route,,and just bought riko splitter,,av11 vtr,,or something like that,,,,fingers crossed,,,,,

  9. skychuck,,as you`ve seen everybody has there favourite,,thats just the way it is,,,,as long as were all selling our favourite,,who cares whether your right or I am,,its all sold,,,,and were all happy and our customers are,,,,happy days,,,,
  10. if its dry it burns,,,,cant say I`ll lose any sleep ..over it,,,,20yrs of tried and tested log sales,,and customer feedback,,they prefer,ash!!!!! I burn it all day long,,,,they and I have had other,,,london plane isnt as ready available,,,plus its worth more in planks,,,so wouldnt waste it,,,,popular when dry is fine in wood burners,,but I have a mix of customers and they dont always tell me what its for,,so as it spits I cover my ar.e,,,,it obviously burns fine as they make all the matches from it,,,if you prefer beech,,good for you,,,its nothing personell..just my experience,,,
  11. have been selling ash for twenty yrs,,,,and find it dries quicker and burns hotter than beech,,,,no brainer??
  12. my local tax inspector told me i wasnt allowed to claim for staff sweatshirts as they werent neccesary PPE? ,,surely they come under advertising????what a con,,,
  13. ash is by far the best,,,,and its criminial to burn yew,,,,it turns so well,,and is precious wood,,,I make more money turning yew than burning it,,,,,

  15. have heard that an old bloke working for forestry commision in n,wales,,got bowel cancer from using second hand engine oil to lub his chains,,,,felling wind blown with a johnsred,? whether it was just a coinsedence????poor sod.
  16. hi mate i sell about £2k worth of em a yr,,,there mad for it,,,make em in two parts its quicker and easier,,,,plus the tops can then be larger making it look more life like,,,have look on my website,,,,Winson Woodcraft - hand-made crafts, tree surgeon and pole-lathe turner, i use a 441 for bases and the same for tops finnishing off with ms200,,,,then wait a week and sand em up with angle grinder,,,,oil with linseed and turps,,,,,good luck,,,,,,

  17. plan on mixing my alder in with other arb waste,,oak,,,birch,,acacia etc,,,,,,

  19. just cut sixty ton,,,,,so it better be lol,,have used it before,,,it splits lovely,,,,
  20. I pay my groundsmen,,,£70-80..and my main climbers on £150,,,,,there all worth it,,,,,good guys working for honest wages,,,,pay what you`d expect to pay,,and can afford,,guess it depends which part of country your in.

  22. try anti vibe gloves for woodturning,,there fingerless,,but have shock absorbing bits in em,,if Im using my 441 or 066 lots i use em,,and they work,,,,axminster power tools sell em,,,,good luck
