  13. to be honest it depends on your needs, and budget, a bansaw mill, and swing mills both have pro`s and cons, Ive used both and wouldnt mind both, swing mills can be set up round big logs in situ, and produce very precise accurate planks, where by the bandsaw mill can cut wider boards,,,,

  18. high chance the alder stools may still be red in colour, depends when coppiced, and very rough bark,,,,
  19. having read various comments on here about riko, would just like to say, that I bought a 11VR petrol engine splitter from them some time back , and its a great splitter, but for some reason a couple of weeks ago, it started leaking hydraulic oil, thinking I could solve it, i replaced the seals and tried again, leaked again,,,gave up and sent back machine to riko, where they happily said they`d look at it, next day jim rang and said they`d found a fault in Ram and would replace it free of charge!, picked it up today, not even postage for spare part asked for,,,top service, and cant speak highly enough about them, if only my chainsaw trousers had that guareentee,,,well don riko,,
  20. just want to add that, something is only worth what you can get for it, and this depends on circumstances,,,if your an arborist selling wood, yes you`ve been paid for it,and even after labour splitting costs, fuel etc,,you always going to be cheaper than the "woodfuel supplier" as hes bought his in and cant compete, that isnt the arb blokes fault,,just the way it is,,,in realitly due to this great website, arb blokes are realising that firewood can be sold at higher rates, hopefully creating a true cost, and profit to all, without ripping joe public off,,,
  21. lol,,, theres plenty of em out there,,believe me,,,,
