  1. Quoting for jobs is the same as being a sales man. You need to ask the right questions to get the answers too decide a price. If the customer wants a perfect hedge, then you price for a perfect hedge, not just running over it with the hedges. Likewise if they want the tree reduced but have limited funds, then price to do a quicker but job. It's great to have standards, but if the client won't pay for it......... Then you can't do it. Saying that, never leave a bad job as trees are your advertising board. You need to learn what clients to spend the time with, and who too just give the quote too. J:thumbup1:
  2. The photo of you hanging with the Harbour Bridge is on TreeGears website I think. J:thumbup1:
  3. So when you stand up on your pantin you get maximum return of the croll/basic and therefor gaining bigger steps. But I've really not had that much of an issue to be honest. Think I've got around 3-4 inches of slack in bungee when not loaded. I might use a thicker bungee like Ben R suggested. J:thumbup1:
  4. Do you still have the rubber seal inside the spout? J:thumbup1:
  5. Sweet man. Love the photos. Where you based now? J:thumbup1:
  6. Is that a Cal Crutchlow sticker on your helmet? J:thumbup1:
  7. Jeez, Birmingham has changed a lot since I left. J:thumbup1:
  8. What creek:confused1: J:001_tt2:
  9. Just made myself one on the weekend, works fantastic but nothing on the real thing I doubt. Used it a couple of times already and makes ascending quick, but most important is quick to take off and start work. Mine still needs a few adjustments. J:thumbup1:
  10. The system now looks as long as an English Prussik to me. Is the krab really that bad on limb walks? Or is it just a case of trying to better it? J:thumbup1:
  11. Split them as you come too them, don't throw them aside for another time. I know it's a pain but it's more of a pain when it's all your left with. Also it means a customer gets a heap of 'crap wood' (I know it's not but they prefer perfect logs) where as you can split it amongst the season. J:thumbup1:
  12. I haven't got one but have a Prussik and ring on my lanyard for that purpose. Can't justify spending that kinda money on a lanyard so basically made it myself as I had the components in my bag any way. Love it and use the ring ALOT!get into great work positions with it. J:thumbup1:
  13. Don't you mean two hours labour? Not sure if you factored in travel, don't cost yourself treeseer:001_tt2: J:thumbup1:
  14. Nice shot Mark, big Eucs they have up your way:lol:
  15. Also not a fan of this helmet, had it for a year and a half and was awful, a great purchase getting the Petzl IMO. Also not a fan of peltor ear defenders, msa for me. J:thumbup1:
  16. Hey Ben, Things are great in Melbourne and the family are loving it. Little one started school in Jan and has an Ozzy accent already haha. Just really trying to dial in this srt as I feel for most of the trees out here it would be perfect and once dialled in could probably run rings around ddrt. Thanks for the advice guys, Dan, love the sound of the ring spliced onto your rope. I can think of loads of anchors and ways it would be useful. As for spikes, I'm pretty sure there's no way in hell I'd be able to do euc removals without them. It's a spurs on and get on with it approach I'm going to adopt, and start thinking in srt mode. Not that I could see it making to much difference but do you notice a difference in the way you'd rig the tree down. Different order, method etc. or are you going about your business as normal? Cheers guys. J:thumbup1:
  17. I prefer 8mm Prussik on 11mm rope J:thumbup1:
  18. Hey guys, I've been climbing srt for a while but not on all trees, only trees that I felt srt would be a benefit. For removals I've used srt once and got extremely frustrated, but I think it was mostly because I was out of my comfort zone. I LOVE my spiderjack for removals, love the slack tending on separate stems and many other advantages. I'd like to give srt a real go on removals so I can apply it in the work situation at a competitive level (understand I won't at the start and speed is not everything blah blah). So I'd like you srt guys to post some advice on methods, tie offs, basically anything to do with srt and removals. Your help will be appreciated. J:thumbup1:
  19. That's awesome Dan, thanks heaps for taking the time and effort to explain. I'll be on it and giving it a proper go. 6 weeks solid srt and I'll teach myself and find easier better ways of moving around the tree. Just need to get my head around removals srt then I'll be golden. Thanks again. J:thumbup1:
  20. Well I've been climbing srt for 2 years but not all the time. Only when the tree presents itself to srt climbing. I think that's why I struggle to see laterally, I've never dived in the deep end and tried it on what I would class as a ddrt tree. I need more time on it without throwing a paddy:blushing: J:thumbup1:
  21. When you say static redirect do you mean a tied top anchor? If that makes sense. I reckon I need to think more outside the box when climbing srt like you mentioned Dan. Can't help but think the highest tip is the best. Another question, how many redirects do you carry on ur harness? Sorry if I've derailed the thread. J:thumbup1:
  22. So when your at your tie in point Mark, do you pull your tail too the ground to make it retrievable cuz that's what I do if I'm working a tree for a long period. If I'm doing that on a small tree then I often just stay ddrt cuz I'm there already and setup. J:thumbup1:
  23. Na I was meaning advancing if you don't get your final TIP from the throw line. If you base tie can be a pita to change to a top anchor. Am I making sense? J:thumbup1:
  24. The idea of being able to lower is great, but in reality I find it not practical in most situations. I too opt for the top anchor whilst workin,do you try and isolate from the ground or advance/re-tie when your there? That's my niggle with srt, find it takes a lot of setup time. J:thumbup1:
  25. Awesome work Drew and co. Love the ring idea on a continual loop, never seen that before. What base anchor do you use most? Presume just base tie with a belay device and enough rope to get them to the ground. Or do you use another? J:thumbup1:
