  1. Try Forsyths of Denny. Dont know their number off hand but they are only couple of miles from where your working. They do general haulage, hiab hire and crane hire.
  2. I did it last year along with the chipper. I only done the assessment and it only took about an hour for the grinder part. General talk about HS some maintenance questions, had to change couple of teeth, then had to demonstrate grinding some stumps. Think it cost about £100 for grinder part, with me supplying the grinder.
  3. What I did notice with Danish oil was the cost. I hadn't bought any for a few years then bought 5lt tin last year and the cost had increased from £28 To £52 Shop told me it was due to major fire at manufactures factory.
  4. I use Danish oil most of the time. Very easy to use, brush on or rub with rag. Build up the layers normally 6 to 7 and it gives a hard durable finish. Will stand hot cups and most spillages. Also like it if the finish dose get damaged its easy to sort the damaged part and you dont have to re do the hole table top.
  5. Mate I would put the link back up. Don't worry about sarky remarks. You said it your self you want to get it out there and get it noticed. If its on the web, I would have thought the more people that see it the better the chances they will pass it on to family or friends. You never know it only takes one to buy. Good luck
  6. Must be a horrible thought to think they have been watching or even in your yard talking to you if they new not to touch anything else.Or do you think they were they only interested in the mewp? They must have been there for a while trying to get that out of there. It's hard enough just getting by just now without the hassle of thieving scum doing you over. My mate got his jcb loader nicked from his garden center. They broke the windows on two vans, pushed them out the way, hot wired the loader broke through his gate with it. Drove it over two fields taking out two stone dikes, where they then put it on a low loader. Done all that and the police said nobody had seen or heard anything.
  7. Nice furniture. Always liked working with yew, but I could never seem to get any descent yew wide enough to make anything other than mirror frames.
  8. Good find. Never seen anything like that before.
  9. Some cracking wood there. Makes me want to get back into milling.
  10. David, You can get cheap or even free firewood, but you will have to put a bit of work into it. If you befriend some local tree surgeons they might drop off or let you pick up some timber from jobs, that you could cut or split and seasoned your self. I generally dont give timber away but I do have a few contacts further afield if I need to off load some timber quick to let me finish a job. It will always help you if you offer a little something, even packet of fags or a few beers. Cheers, Robert.
  11. Hi Paul, might have a few things coming off soon. PM your rates, availability and experience. Cheers, Robert.
  12. Ha,Ha I had to clear the snow to get the vans out the yard this morning. cracking dumper/grinder. I was at one time going to get the little david converted to fit onto the digger.
  13. look in arbtrader. Save your self thousands, on slightly used quad, winch, and trailer.
  14. Jimmy, I would be interested. I just got a new Carton SP4012 remote controlled grinder. Cheers, Robert.
  15. Bought this Rabaud 6 tonne last year. I have had one of their large log splitters for years, with no problems so thought I would try their winches. Its build quality is very good and it dose what I need it to do, which is mostly arb work. Manual hydraulic lever, but I wished I had got the remote control model. Phone Jim Watt. Caledonian Forestry Services. Auchterarder. Perth.01764663798. He will give you all the info. I paid 5k Hope this helps, Robert.
  16. Jimmy, Maybe too finished for your friend if shes looking for more natural look? I have this in storage some where. Cant quite remember the length but I think its about 8ft. Elm frame and top with rippled Sycamore on front. I made it in 4 sections so it can be easily split to get through doors and then put back together. Also free standing, so could be moved any where within your friends shop. Open to reasonable offers. Cheers, Robert
  17. I renewed my LGV two years ago at 45. Went for the medical and also had to change from old paper to new photo one. I have had class 2 for about 20 years and never really used it. When it came back they had included class 1 for some reason. Im trying to get my mate to give me shot off his artic, but he is not to keen.
  18. I got caledonian forestry to supply and pipe mine. Im not to clever my self with these things. He fitted these blocks so when I want to fit the grab I connect the quick fittings and turn the lever. It rotates either way on the bucket tilt lever and opens and closes with the rocker peddle on the floor.
  19. Barony, is VERY VERY expensive. Try Donald Maclean chairman of forestry contractors association 01549 421206 Assessed me last week for agri based forwarding and tracked slewing machine. Thought he was very reasonable.
  20. thanks for the comments. Decided on new isuzu denver 3lt auto pick up. Pick it up in couple of days. Cheers, robert.
  21. Why dose the fuel have to be stored out side. Is this something to do with AAA approved? I had to have a site and land contamination survey carried out on my yard and workshop for a planning application. They told me that if petrol and diesel was stored in purpose containers, in the workshop and if the containers leaked then the workshop would become the bund. They also stated on the report that SEPA agreed with this. I do have 1000lt bunded fuel store outside but I still store some petrol in gerry cans and diesel in 25lt drums in the workshop. robert
  22. hi mate, I have a valmet tractor, operator and winch, that could be for hire. if you want to give me a call to tell me more details I could work out price. Cheers, Robert 07803591153

  23. Thanks for the positive comments. The finished result is down to my climber. Will post if I hear any feed back from client. Cheers, Robert.
  24. Been mind wrestling whether to post this. Will I won't I, can I handle the flack. This came about through the Beech being thrashed with winds. Normally would fell and remove. The LA client have budget issues with all the recent damaged and the cost to remove the whole tree would had increased a fair bit because it sits on a steep embankment and woodland paths make it near impossible to winch out. LA didnt request this but are ok with it. It was my idea to try this as I had seen some on hear and thought why not have a go. The area is sort of urban woodland and splits two public parks. There is a lightly used woodland path close, but we cut back limbs so when tree rots nothing would fall within striking distance of the path. We also recently had to completely remove 4 other mature trees close by due to storm damage and is fairly obvious now with open spaces. The climber had done some of this before, but a first for me. Looking at other coronets I can see room to improve, probably deeper cuts to look more like the natural fractured limbs. I think this is the first within the area I work and have asked LA to keep me informed if any comments are made from the general public. I've done it now but not to sure if it will be what most people will want. I'll probably have to go back and remove if its not received well, I'll let others make that decision. But what do you's on hear think? like, loath, or couldn't care less. Going to post this and head out so look forward to comments tomorrow evening. Cheers, Robert. ps, sorry for crappy photos taken with my phone.
  25. thinking of replacing my jeep. Seen one I like but its an automatic and never driven one. I Will be towing a fair bit most days. Dose it make any difference whether its manual or auto. Like to hear your views. Cheers, Robert.
