  2. If its Perth Scotland I could offer something if it's Perth ozzy land I cant:001_smile:
  3. I'm looking for self employed / freelance climber to joing small company. Could be couple days a week or more if wanted. Mainly to split squad or to work with other climber on larger jobs. Must have experience and own transport to get to yard. Own climbing equipment prefered but not essencial as could be supplied. All other equipment will be supplied. Any body interested pm / tel me your availibility and your rates. 07803591153. Working mostly stirling and Falkirk area but we do cover all Scotland for some clients cheers robert.
  4. Ended up buying polaris 550 quad to day. Made the decision more on convenience, with the dealer close and had one in stock. Once i get a notion into my head to buy something Ive got to get it quick, too impatient to wait for long delivery times.
  5. Its a strip off ground about 8m wide stuck between row of houses and cemetery. thing is it is about 200m long and access at one end only. There is a row of mature trees growing right down the middle of the strip. probably a tight 5ft each side of the trees without doing damage. Its only one mature lime blown over onto another tree. Could do the job manually with a lot of dragging but to be honest these job are coming up more often and are a bit of a pain with my current equipment, so i thought of investing in something smaller. But trying to get the right machine to suit different jobs is always a pain. Will have a nosey about on net to find info for advent and boxers. Robert. forgot to say budget of 7 to 10k
  6. Cant decide what would be my best option on these machines. I dont have any experience with any of them Got some work coming off soon and it involves long narrow drags over ruff/smooth grass to get stuff out and i cant get any of my equipment in. Been looking at polaris quads 550cc with front winch and smallish general trailers, but i cant decide if this is the best option to what could be available. Would also like to get the best use out of the machine for other things. Possibly towing 150 timberwolf about on small woodland jobs or even on grass areas where tract machines rips the ground. Maybe even something that would clear snow or run other implements. Any advice or suggestions welcome, Cheers, Robert.
  7. I have had a carton 2000 pedestrian for 4 years and they are good machines. I also have 4012. Iam`looking to buy a new pedestrian and Iam going to have a demo with the bandit sidewinder because I personally thing the cartons are pricing their self out of the market with their pedestrian machines.
  8. Thought I would bump this again. It is a pity that this business is sitting idle when it has the potential of a good money maker. This business has been on the back burner for 4 years waiting for a kick start. I done this on a smallish scale for about 7 years along side arb work and made good money, my intention was to move to larger premises I had bought and expand this side. After moving to new premises I had to build a house and didnt have the time to commit to it. Also my arb business is busy and takes up a good bit of my time. I dont want the hassle of employing people to do this so thought I would look for a partner. There is also the possibility of me including the fire wood side of things with sales annually of approximately 400 vented bags and about 30 transit loads. Cheers, Robert. Business Opportunity.doc
  9. Hi mate, is it a dinning table or a coffee table your looking for?
  10. I know exactly what i need to earn each day to cover my costs but that dosnt help me to win jobs. What i need to know is what the other companies that are pricing against me are charging and that is the hard bit.
  11. It really depends what kind of wood you have. I bought a new palax KS35 because i wanted one and didnt think it through enough. I had it for about 3 years and hardly ever used it, where some one uses the vertical splitter nearly every day. It was really down to the wood that i had from arb arisings was mostly rounds and the lengths i brought back to the yard were to big for the processor. The small amount of timber that was ok for the processor was split in a good day then the machine lay idle for a long time until i could get another pile for a days splitting. When i did use it i found it slow with only one chap working it but definitely speeded things up with one loading and one working saw, but two men working on the logs was not always possible. Probably if i was a bit more determined I could have rigged up or bought a loading bay, filled it up then moved round and worked the saw, which would make it a bit more suitable for one man.
  12. Ha Ha, I used to arrange to meet my new dates at the bench under that tree And that wasn't yesterday.
  13. Tree was fine, no branches had been shed. must have been tree further back. Beech tree gone. shed large limb and had to be felled. Had to use cherry picker to dismantle because of the lights rapped round every limb.
  14. The tree was ok robert, but the lean over the road freaked out tall vans and buses apparently, when they had to go tight into the road edge approaching the traffic lights. I havent met the new TO yet. Have been told there are 2. Girl/woman? from Newcastle to deal with private owned trees and a fellow, dont know where from, to deal with LA owned trees. Sure ill meet them soon.
  15. Stephen, its the main road into Stirling town centre. ONLY took me 22years to get the kit.
  16. Done this job this morning. Nice LA organized a complete road closure. Made the simple dismantle so so easier with no traffic or public to deal with. Was a bit surreal sitting in the middle of what is usually a very busy road. Couple of hrs work streched out a little, drinking latte and doing some talent spotting.
  17. Thanks for all the comments and the contact numbers guys. Seems to be big difference depending on who you deal with and where you live. Do like the figure Highland Forestry is talking. At this price i think it would be very worth while selling every thing for biomass and not get all the hassle with trying to sell builder bags or small van loads direct to the public.
  18. Ha ha, I have just bought 07 3.5t nkr. Iv only done 200miles and light came on to day on for DPD? and now it has to go to dealer to get fixed. I like the driving position and turning circle is superb. Realy bought it for the extra power to pull 2.7t digger, but not needed to tow digger yet, so time will tell on pulling power. Dose bounce about the road a fair bit.
  19. I have got a large pile of wood chips in the yard that i need to clear, probably about 5 artic loads and wondering if biomass is an option. wood chip is all clean mixed species and stored on concrete. Normally find ways to use my chip but have been extra busy and have a bit too much. Any one sell or have details of companies buying it. I am based in Stirling/Falkirk area. cheers, Robert.
  20. i have a 2.7t volvo. Very versatile and reliable machines, definitely get my vote. I haven't tried any other makes, so cant compare. Good size to make a difference on jobs and easily transported with 4x4 or 3.5t pickups.
  21. I no longer chip other peoples brash any more because I could never do it as quick as they said it would take. It always ended in bad feelings so I just dont do it now. For what its worth even the cheapest skips cost £100 now, so I would halve be looking for at least that.
  22. Going to upgrade my 4year old carlton sp2000 for a new one. Dealer selling them now with sandvic head. I have 700 size green teeth on my grinder and find them very good. albeit they are getting more difficult to get new ones. Any one used green teeth and then changed to sandvic on this size grinder? Cheers, Robert.
  23. I recently done some work for a good customer of mine, that involved a lot of traveling, with 3.5 ton tippers towing a chipper, traveling 300miles round trip to and from sites. Because of the fuel increases i was worried about the extra cost. He suggested I charge them 50p per mile on top of my day rate. I think that is what he charges his company when he uses his private car.I dont know if that is good bad or fair for a larger van, but it suited me. Probably didnt make any think on it but at lease it covered the fuel.
  24. Phoned a valtra dealer to look at PTO and they sent engineer next day. Done oil pressure test on back end and decided it was the PTO clutch that had worn. Striped the back end there and then and went away to order the parts. will come back Monday if parts are in and re assemble and test. NOW I KNOW WHAT A WET PTO CLUTCH LOOKS LIKE:blushing: Thanks to all who contributed advice and thoughts. Cheers robert.
