The loose change video is a good one. And certainly sparks thoughts and controversy. I was 10 when it happened and I remember coming home and my dad and a few others watching it on tv in the front room. I'm in two minds on whether it was what the government say it is and whether the government planned it! Looking at the pictures of how the pentagon was hit, the evidence there and for what it should be like is thought provoking. But why would a government attack their own people on their own soil? So they can blame it on al-Qaeda and go looking for non-existent WMDs? I'm still sympathetic to the innocent people who lost their lives nonetheless. -
if you want a chipper to run on a 130hp tractor, have you looked at the TW pto 300h? its a 12" and i have run it on a 200hp tractor, double its minimum requirement, and never had a problem. The antistress kicks in on bigger logs, but surely putting big logs in and working the chipper at capacty is what causes the anti stress to kick in because its chipping a lot, and the tractor powering it isnt much of an issue?

Should that have said worries? I'm still going. It's a week Saturday. Cooooool Whitby Jet You are right. Interesting how it gets washed up on our east coast even though chile is to the west of us. Then again, it doesn't matter which way you go as you'll get to it either way!

Ray: as mentioned above. They aren't native. Another common name for them is the Chilean pine. I'll be having Ed and his chipper in. Not one I'd like to push into my little greenmech! I may be having more weekend jobs on due to college so I'll give you a bell for any I get. That's just made me think of one actually! What's monkey puzzle wood worth? This is about 20" or so diameter.

I had blaze (11mm) but found it hurts my hands and I couldn't grip properly. Got a 13mm and it's nice. I have a shorter 11.7mm poison ivy which I use with a lock jack and I love it.

I suppose it could be as simple as that. A hard winter and then the long dry period has done a lot of trees over round here. I'm not looking forward to dealing with it though!

I've watched this tree die within a month. Was tempted to go and knock on but then I got phoned up about it. I suspect honey fungus could be to blame but there were no FBs around the tree. There is sap oozing out all over. Any ideas?

I have a precision tooling speed sharp. It's basically an Oregon one with a different badge. It's good if you set it up right. You can fly through chains if they are just having a little tickle. And can get badly mullerd ones back razor sharp quickly. Be careful now to push too hard or you blue the cutters and they lose their hardness!

Ive done 2 years at university level in arb and will be doing a 3rd. My climbing isnt world class but i can get the job done. My tree knowledge is good and i can tell the difference between the two native oaks fairly easily, thats not much to say but i know a lot of people who struggled with it! I know basic info on the legal aspect of things, enough that it helps me with my work and i can explain to customers and neighbours whos tree is whos and what they can do about it! a 2 year arb student should be able to identify an ash from a distance and be able to give you its latin name no problems. There are gear monkeys everywhere, they get into the game just to use the gear but it takes more than a love for shiny stuff to be good in this world. i admit i like my shiny things but do like the job as a whole and shiny stuff makes it fun!

Anybody near st helens can use our farm for chip and logs if you want to give them away! There is a site near me that will take anything greenwaste. I'll search for the details and get them up.

i tried going down the paperwork route of this at a park near me, phoned up and had to speak to the head ranger which then started on emails and he wanted to see proof of insurance tickets and risk assessment. i asked him why if its recreational and we are out the way of people but he never answered! that was a while ago too!

its not the prettiest thing i have to say! although it could have been worse! i did a couple of plums this week, one had been topped and butchered a lot and to get it looking any better i had to cut it hard, looked very sorry after it but the customer was pleased. they wanted it topping like the conifers next to it anyway! The one at the front was tickling phone lines so i took a lot of the long growth out and reduced the width and it did look good, no cut thicker than 3", even then, the ones that were that thick there was only one or two that had to be taken as they interfered with the driveway space.

echo the above comment. for the occaisional user who may use a chain or two a year, a file is much easier. Portek do a chain sharpener thats mainly plastic and you do get what you pay for at £40, however ive not used one so dont know if they do a good job or not. i use the equivalent model to the oregon pro bench mounted one and it gives good results, its good for sorting out mullered chains and is about as quick as a hand file when just giving chains a tickle. it keeps angles and the amount taken consistent so the chain will cut straight, which is handy!
