  1. I guess everyone is a bit different, I have used a TM for quite a few years and then used a Austria harness, I could hardly walk at the end of the day my hips were so sore. But some guys I work with just love the Austria.
  2. What you need to do is buy a 57 plate extra cab. I'll sell you mine if you like. Cheers Dan
  3. It's an 07 with a 2.5lt non turbo so it's not great but drives well with a load on. I think the newer ones have a 3lt. The towing isn't as good as some, maybe 2.6t or 2.8t but as my chipper is only 600kg I dont worry about it. Perfect little set up for domestic sites tho. Dan
  4. I bought myself a 350 in november, love it. It's a bit tight in the cab but I am 6ft8 so most trucks are a bit tight. Just had it arbed up with a tool box, high sides and barn doors. Sign writing next.
  5. Hi guys, I need someone with arial rescue and chainsaw ticket to work next Tuesday, near bury st Edmunds suffolk. You only need your ppe. Please pm me with rates and contact details. Thanks Dan

  7. first one quince, second mulberry maybe
  8. We've had these kits now for some time, but never had to use them thankfully. Greig came and did a days training for us a few weeks ago, it was great. He went through how to use the kit properly, and then first aid in the tree and airial rescue/self rescue. I've been climbing 20 years and that was one of the best training days I've done. The quallity of the arb aid kit bandages etc is so much better than a normal first aid kit.
  9. hi Jon, its a woodwarm
  10. we use about 3 cube a month on a 16kw stove running 9 rads and hot water. mostly hard wood. its a very draughty old house with no insulation. really toasty tho. Dan
  11. Thanks Mr Humphries, The coronet in the final pic was the biggest and took about 25 mins, but I was in a picker with an 044. I wouldn't fancy doing it from a rope and harness. The others were easier as I could let them rip out then make a few extra cuts. The tree has AOD (early Stages). Otherwise no real decay other than the usual rotted out branch stubs. No bats, or nests. I did see a red kite land in the next tree over whilst I was eating my sarnies. Hopefully something will move in now.
  12. Hi folks I did a major reduction on this oak today because it was in the glide path of the planes near a runway. It is on forestry commision land and they wanted to retain it for habitat. What do you recon?
  13. fantastic, thanks for posting.
  14. Thanks Chris I'll look into it.
  15. Can anyone help please, I would like a good sized load of hardwood cord (upto 26t) delivered to the Robinhoods bay area of North Yorkshire. Good access, for drop off in a farmyard. Is there anyone out there that can do this or any ideas on who would be a good contact in the area? Thanks for any help Dan
  16. Yes a six day course, starting by selecting a small ash tree to fell. then sixty hours of cutting shaping and whittling. hey presto, chair. Had a great time sleeping in the woods and getting back to nature.
  17. I did a course with Mike Abbott earlier in the year and made this chair.
  18. not sure of the tonnes, but i'd say it's a good arctic load. as for price all sensible offers will be considered, cheers

  19. Hi arbtalkers, I did a nice little job on monday, felling 9 semi mature beech trees between Cambridge and Newmarket. The client wants to sell the wood if anyone is interested please PM me or call 07865399401. All the trees are roadside with good access, a telehandler may be available for loading if necessary. 2 stems have really nice spalting by the looks of it. Just wish I had time to mill it myself. Cheers Dan
  20. free worker are good too
  21. try gruberforster i got stuff from them for years when i was out there with no problems.
  22. I'm 6ft 8in and 15 stone. If I'm going out on something thin I just think of feathers, fairies and light summer breezes. Mind over matter. then again I've got a good reach so it's not such an issue.
  23. I've been climbing 16 years now and have worked at few places that encourage using spikes whilst pruning, one of them was an established AA approved contractor! I never stayed very long with any of them. I've also used spikes for retrenchment pruning for the national trust, to encourge regrowth. As a rule tho I like the right tool for the right job. Tall trees/bad access, invest in a big shot.

    milled oak

cheers guys, i've been using linseed oil, but i'm thinking of trying grape seed oil for the next project as it seems to have a more subtle effect.
