  1. The Kurds are the biggest group combating IS and they're really pretty lefty in many ways.
  2. Thanks that looks like the one, except it had a chain brake. But like you said its probably newer.
  3. Hello Arbtalkers I was looking at a job today and the customer had an old saw that they had been trying to cut some wood with but it was very blunt. The saw is a Stihl 08s I think, and in used but mint condition (made in Brazil sticker on the side still intact). It was inherited thru the family. They also have the original manual and tool kit its on its original bar too i think. Any ideas on how old it is or its value today. Cheers Dan

Top 10 Most Socialist Countries in the World By Peerform · On December 6, 2012 The term socialist has been thrown around quite a bit in the past few years. Not since the cold war has the term garnered so much attention in the press and from politicians. But when you look at countries who actually have a socialist economic structure, you can see some similarities to the United States – but there are some really stark differences. Below, you will see some of the most socialistic nations in the world today: China Denmark Finland Netherlands Canada Sweden Norway Ireland New Zealand Belgium
  5. its influenced by the industry because if the collages will not pay enough to staff they cant recruit good staff then the quality of teaching isn't high enough and the students leaving the collage are not valued by industry employers looking for staff.
  6. Thanks for the input everyone. Maybe I should move to Somerset mr sedgemoortree Whats the R2? please can you explain.
  7. This is what happens people get greedy, can't see past the instant gain of the money in their hand now and screw the lads over. then down the line wonder why they struggle to get good staff
  8. I had a similar thing happen to me at a big national company. They promised a bonus if we hit a target, so we worked really hard to do it and they refused to pay us the bonus because some other crews at the other end of the country did not hit the target. I handed in my notice the same day!
  9. Your right Steve but how about if you as a subbie felt ownership of of that truck. knowing that say 5% of the cost came out of your bonus at the end of the year or every 6 months or however it was structured. Would you have a word with the guy responsible, get him to buck his ideas up if needed. Or if was just bad luck that day as a one off say never mind it all works out in the end lets try a bit harder tomorrow to make up for the loss as you would if it was your own truck on your own job? Does this sort of thing just create more tension within the team?
  10. Evening all. I've talking with the guys at work and been reading a few of the posts on here recently about wages not increasing with inflation and how many people have trouble keeping good staff for the long term, and its got me thinking. Can small business owners offer more to their employees and subbies so that they are inspired to stay develop their arb career within the company? Often the natural progression in the industry is to leave your employer and set up on your own. I've heard some of the big firms offer a more structured employment system with a bonus or % of extra sales to the customer but I have no personal experience of this. I'd be interested to hear any ideas, from either business owners and employees/subbies on the subject. Or others with experience of other industries where this is done as the norm, as seems to be the case in the tech or business sectors. 1.Would bonus schemes or profit sharing help? 2.Would share options/incentives encourage staff members to stick about for longer? 3. How can people become inspired to push themselves to achieve what they want without feeling the only way forward is to go it alone? 4. When people want to start finding and then doing their own work, how can this be encouraged and rewarded within the organisation without being detrimental to either party? Thanks for reading and I hope this might get people thinking of how we can work together to improve all our chances in the sometimes difficult world of work/life balance. Cheers Dan
  11. Sorry i clicked on the wrong price and cant work out how to sort it out!
  12. Evening all, I'm taking down about 15 Poplars in a couple of weeks. They are all about 2ft 6in DBH and nice straight stems. I can cut to any length required and move to the roadside for pick up. All offers welcome. Regards Dan
  13. I've had a woodwarm about 7 years now and cant fault it. stays lit over night no problem, even with conifer.
  14. I've had a pair for a couple of years now. Really good especially in summer as I can sometimes struggle with over heating feet.
  15. Hi Mike, Have you thought about doing a few days (holiday from your office job) or some weekend work to test the water and see if tree work suites you? When I started out many moons ago I called round all the local tree firms until I found one that was willing to give me a trial on Saturdays, it worked out and I've done trees ever since. You'll get a lot of knock backs for sure, but thats the first test to know if you want it enough. I'm sure you'll find something as you're looking at a big area.
  16. Yes all true I'd say, but he still made some very good observations and seemed to have an understanding of the problems that face working people to this day. He was also a terrible husband and father by all accounts. If you look at social economic models in Germany and Austria they have a lot of respect for him and often name streets and social housing developments after him because he inspired those countries to look after some of the less fortunate workers that could have been marginalised and left behind by their wealthy employers. The idea being that if they take care of them to a point then they wouldn't turn to violent revolution or Communism.
  17. Yeah I know a lot of people only read stuff that comes with pictures!
  18. Marx's ideas may well be misused and twisted from his original observations by many different people. But a lot of what he said is still very relevant today especially as computers and robots take over from working people. Sorry i haven't got a meme to make my point with!
  19. Amber Rudd showed the true party line when she tried to justify arms sales to Saudi. Basically anything goes as long as big multinational firms can make lots of money.
  20. Due to the Government's significant budget deficit, the national debt is increasing by approximately £73.5 billion per annum, or around £1.4 billion each week.[2] The Conservatives pledged in 2010 that they would eliminate the deficit by the 2015-16 financial year.[3] However, by 2014 they admitted that the structural deficit would not be eliminated until the financial year 2017/18.[4] This forecast was pushed back to 2018/19 in March 2015, and to 2019/20 in July 2015,[5] before the target of a return to surplus at any particular time was finally abandoned by the then Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne in July 2016.[6]
