  1. I had a kubota finishing mower does a good job. A roller mower as you are describing will leave a nicer striped finish but they are a lot more expensive.
  2. If it's for kids to play in would it not be best to use 'play bark' from somewhere like the landscape centre at ulting its safe for kids to play in. I have some mixed chip in the yard but would contain some green conifer laurel etc can do a high sided land rover load for £20 to cover diesel cost if any good.
