  1. AFAIK, only if they are bona fide sub-contractors as opposed to free-lance labour(commonly mis-identified as 'sub contractors'). To be a bona fide subcontractor, they would need to be running a part of the contract (identified by criteria such as responsibility and reward) as opposed to just turning up Monday to Friday and getting on with it.

Now also have winching kit (Tirfor 1.6 tonne and 3.2 tonne) and have added Brushcutter and Powered Pole Pruner tickets (have strimmer/clearing saw and pole saw) as well as Lantra 1 day tree inspection ticket. Not sure where I got it from but I have it in my head that you need to avoid a set pattern of working for one client eg every Monday and Tuesday (smacks of being a part-time employee) and you need more than just a couple of firms that you freelance for (I'm thinking 4 but again I couldn't swear to where I got that from).
