Marlowbraid has a 16 plait poly cover on a 3 strand core (as already stated). Doublebraid has a 24 plait cover on a 12 strand braided core - hence double braid. Marlowbraid = good Doublebraid = a wee bit gooder

Your ideas seem fine to me. I set climbing walls up inside one of our barns. Sank caving bolts into what ever I found, none have come away after 23 years! Remember the holds, on the whole, are experiencing shear forces. Most of the holds can be rotated to change the grip so plan for the wall's evolution as the climbers improve. The top anchors need only be safe and rope-friendly - the simpler the better. Depending upon safety when unattended, the wall might be left with a light line through the top anchors so that climbing rope can be put in place from the ground.

It's to do with the material that the ropes are made from. Go to the Samson Ropes site and at the top of each set of instructions you'll find the rope types that a particular splice will suit.

For karabiners, it's not too cold! Remember, these things are designed to work in rough environments. Get them back to the manufacturers - hopefully you'll get sorted out, and DMM might gain some useful information.

Connect the fid to a ratchet strap and tie off the other end - then just ease it through to the finish.
