  1. If you split the log in half the reading will be much higher in the middle. What he was saying is the log was wetter than you measured.
  2. I would ask for a full refund and half the wage bill for that day. Aim high and accept a reasonable offer.
  3. I thought this was an arb forum not a literacy test
  4. I have had enough of logs for now so I think I have run out till after christmas. unless you are a good regular customer then I might be able to find the odd pile of 300 tonnes of beech I processed last march We had a huge stock of kindling which is going down rapidly so will be concentrating on keeping our wholesale customers happy. I have had my caveman log cutting fix.
  5. The chap that works for me has a stihl one looks ok a bit small but one useful feature is it turns of after about 10 seconds. Mine gets switched on in my pocket next time it goes off is when its eaten the 9v battery.
  6. Most round this way process straight into truck. They are busy all summer harvesting. I dont see where it says in the bible though shall spend £50,000 on cord then spend thousands on diesel and wages then wait 12 months to see your money back. If we process and send out green we tell people. But alot of my customers are ordering there wood now for next year they get there first load in feb march when there store is down I then have space and cash flow so I can send them bone dry stuff in Jan/ Feb next year. We are never short on customers just time and cord wood
  7. If you dont say something he may carry on pricing jobs on the grounds of you are prepared to do a 13 hr day for a standard day rate. If times are hard and this is the best job he could line up I would help him out then draw a new line in the sand for future jobs. £600 a week is better but £400 is better than 0
  8. £3000 will buy an ok one but not running a remote cottage 24/7 for the next ten years. £7000 will buy you a proper generator running at 1500 rpm and with servicing and 80% load will last 15- 40,000 hrs with some luck.
  9. I know you had alot of trouble with yours. But its the best available in that size at that price. I would imagine you were doing alot of stop starting. You can pay £5000 for a 3kva open set which is what you may have needed. If you are going to run 10 - 15 hrs a week the pramac will be ok. The yanmar l100 engine is due a major overhaul at 2000hrs I would say the unit has expired at 4000 hrs. We use perkins in our 30kva 1500rpm sets and expect 40,000 hrs before overhaul horses for courses.
  10. I did not recognise the hgi bit as I know them as Harrington. A nice uk company straight and helpful. I dont know if they manufacture that set in house or import. The ebay item looks genuine. Most of those other ebay sets esp kipor kama etc are not great in my opinion. They are a poor copy of the L100 engine. There was a P6000s on there the best you will get for 3k.
  11. I am not sure if that is made by HGI has a sort of prc look to it. That is defo not the quietest on the market. My choice if you want a small 3000 rpm machine would be the pramac P6000s . The s bit is important as you can hardly hear it running ie 70 dec at 1 metre not half way up the road. I have sold loads of these when we could do them for 2k now they come out at £2500 + vat. That ebay thing if its a genuine HGI from uk will make about 12-1600 on ebay. If it was rough 5-700. Small gensets are a minefield especially air cooled 3000 rpm stuff.
  12. Woodpicker thats 59p a litre does it come in daylight hrs:001_smile:
  13. is that 86p a litre at the marina inc vat and 69p delivered ex vat
  14. I was being polite what I meant to say was 3120:puke: but did not want to upset anyone the 088 I think is out of date but at least it stays together
  15. We used to keep our hunter in all night. When you have a nice bed of health red embers empty the ash pan over the top. In the morning push some sticks of kindling in without disturbing too much ( I know a good place for Kindling ) some mornings it would be roaring in the middle some not. In the end we just let it die out and relight in a couple of minutes I think it clogs the chimney without giving much heat and uses up expensive logs if its slumbered.
  16. I have used eset nod32 for years and it is very good. But I got a spyware virus about 8 months ago all my desktop files hidden. Sent to the local geek £40 sorted. Next day the other pc got it. Its more luck if you dont get them eset cannot guarantee we wont get another in an hrs time just depends if you visit a site with a virus they have not seen. PS we dont look at porn the spyware we got we think came from facebook.
  17. There is a whole army of so called nurses dressed the part. But they are actually private firms charging the NHS a fortune to go to peoples homes wash them and clean up. Basically cleaners often with a very bad attitude as we have found in the past. They park across my drive and when asked politely if we can get out they explain they are important and we can wait. Luckily we have a teleporter
  18. Trouble is we cant afford to pick up the phone a 1000 times to sell 150 loads. So if we miss a few calls and got on with work what have we missed. Normally I want bone dry logs 5" long stacked at the bottom of the garden christmas eve.
  19. Copy the item no and click on report item paste the no in and give a brief reason why you think its a fraud. A pain in the butt to do but may save someone alot of pain. I occasionally clear some of the generator scams out for them. All the reasons above indicate a scam. Best thing to do is view and pay cash take away with reciept.
  20. I am going to try harder to love oak I think part of the problem is 13" wide log burner so you cant get 2 logs in at once. I may cut logs down to 5" if I get time.
  21. I have a cheapo from ebay as long as you keep good batteries in it its fine for firewood. It confirms what you thought and occasionally throws up a nasty surprise ie too wet. For what you are doing may need something better it would be interesting if you tested one along side you decent meter to see how far out they are.
  22. Unimog seats 3, carries 3 tonne, Tows 18 tonnes, nice one £16,000 or hilux tipper carries 500kg cost £6,000 send the other boys in a berlingo £1500
  23. I am not sure if the £36,000 and carries 1/2 a tonne would sit right with me. But then its irrelevant as I dont have the cash anyway
