  1. When we did logs we used to go 7 miles ea way free. Then it was £1 a mile there and back. So in your case extra £40. Its going to add an hour to the delivery in that time you could have processed another 2 cu metres
  2. Seems to be a common theme here on my other thread he feels you can turn pallets into kindling and burn them in a domestic stove. Yet on here its against the law to cut up timber to sell as logs. I think you will find the country is keen to get the British back into work not discourage them.
  3. We had about 40 people to a sit down meal in a nice country pub function room. 1 limo our budget was £1000 cost £1400 in the end had a cracking day top food. My brother did photos and video which helps alot.
  4. Same here but with cooked breakfast I am not emmission compliant.
  5. When you work out what its worth I may be interested in buying it. Depends on age and condition. It is one of the smaller ones so will only carry around a tonne. Is it shutter or ramp door.
  6. You could well be right woody but this thread is about kindling and we dont make wood chip so its a bit irelevant. Maybe you need to start a thread on shall I chip pallets for my wood burner.
  7. John has pointed out that only a very small percentage of pallets are heat treated. The rest are covered in spilt product paint and chemical treatment. MMMMMM nice
  8. So your saying its not against the rules for me to make kindling out of treated timber. I was under the impression you can burn treated timber in an approved appliance as long as its burnt at a temperature over 600 deg. I assume an open fire and cheap domestic wood burner would not meet this standard. Why would you need kindling in a woodchip boiler I assume they have a built in ignition source surely you dont spend 15k then have to get on your knees with news paper and kindling
  9. We dont use second hand pallet wood. The day I have to compete with criminals I will look for something else to do. There is a demand for quality kindling we do our best to supply it.
  10. I can remember a member called mr ed on here recommending them and that must be 4 years ago so they been around a while. Not heard anything bad.
  11. The mb track looks in good condition. I like the tracks bit more versatile than a normal tractor and easier to justify you are not driving a hgv unlike the mog.
  12. It will use 3 times as much fuel. If you decide to go on holiday 300 miles away it will cripple your spending money. I know I have a landcruiser amazon
  13. A chainsaw blade is always going to create a mountain of waste my 325 chain used to cut a 8mm path through the wood whereas a tct will be 3-4mm. I noticed the farmi 36 has a 325 chain on a 16" bar. This will create less waste but I would imagine you will have to treat with more respect and change bar more often and keep sharp. This is better than the 3/8 or 404 chain found on most big processors. The problem with tct is they only cut about 12" timber.
  14. So the lorry going to Germany must pass the one comming from Latvia
  15. 2 weeks ago I would not of had a clue not a daft question at all. But I would now say wet pop kindled and stacked on pallet will probably go mouldy. But kindled wet and left with air space in a poly tunnel in the summer it dries in 5 days. Pitch pine and spruce gets mould on the end no matter what you do. Our plan is to process into 6 in logs and season in vent bags for several months. Avoid cutting through winter. I have been sat in my office with the aircon on and the stove lit over the last few weeks the neighbours always knew I was mad but now they think I have completely lost it
  16. I have bought kit in the past spent thousands, done 18 tonnes and thought what a waste of time and thrown it in a corner somewhere. Being honest with my hand sharpening even with a widget on the end I can see sparks. Alot of time spent on a bench grinder I think. I think if you get alot of cheap large timber you need a decent splitter and a processor or saw bench.
  17. We dont sell logs. But we have sold 12,000 bags of kindling this year so far. I think there must be a good demand for it maybe not every one has time to sit with a hatchet luckily
  18. Would you consider it the ideal machine for cutting and splitting 6" logs. I had a hakki 2x before and it was too vague on the stop to cut accurate. Also 50% would drop side ways before automatically being mashed sideways. I like the manual control on the splitter and the honda engine option as we have now sold all our tractors.
  19. After my experience of making kindling over the last year and seeing the other kindling thread thought I would put my thoughts down in print. The days of cheap oil, gas, electric, logs and kindling may be comming to an end. Two years ago my material cost to make a bag of kindling inc bag was around 30p this week I am struggling to keep material cost below £1. Our summer orders this year are roughly double and we are having to purchase timber at a cost of £40 a tonne delivered in. A tonne of timber makes about 80 bags of kindling and needs to be dried. Whoever you get your kindling from dont leave it too late as you may be disappointed go easy on you supplier as we are getting stuffed by the biomass boys who get big subsidies to buy cord this has pushed the price up. We enjoy what we do and look forward to meeting all our customers we are doing all we can to make sure we have enough dry kindling to supply through the winter. If anyone knows of a nice pile of fresh 12" pop with no knots going cheap I will be a happy man
  20. The farmi 36 from Riko does 14" timber and starts at £7000. I am in the market for a machine to prep 6" logs for kindling. Will get a demo soon. I am thinking most 36 cm machines are the wrong side of 11k ?
  21. I found that interesting. Not knocking it but we dont sell many 16" logs. Hanging onto a 880 all day long is very hard work. If your sharpening is not spot on a banana cut could be interesting with all that metal around. If you get your billets the right length then you can put them through a processor with no waste. Or better still buy a big processor and proper cord wood.
  22. We are bottom of the m3 if you are that way. Especially interested in poplar and clean knot free softwood for making kindling. If I have room can take stuff for our wood burner Best to give us a shout to make sure we are about.
  23. It looks like there could be a shortage of firewood this winter so if you are approved or not you will sell timber anyway.
  24. I bet it will still get sold for a tight margin once logged all winter. The price will be set by the fly by nights in september.
  25. Sorry about that. My PC in the house has died in the hot weather so struggle to get the time to get on here in the day. Have cleared out a load does anyone know how to save the messages elsewhere on a PC
