  1. I have Forest Mensuration A handbook for practitioners by the Forestry Commission. It is practically unused as I changed from studying forester to studying arb. Was thinking of keeping it just in case I need it but to be honest I cant get my poor little head around the subject. These days if someone asks me how big that tree is I tell them one of three things 1. thats a big tree 2. thats a medium sized tree 3. that thing thats a shrub! No sure if it will be any use in your course but if it is your more than welcome to have it. I would rather It went to good use than just sit on my book shelve. I you want it just p.m me your address and I'll post it during the week. Cheers Stevie
  2. My current flip line is going to fail its LOLER check which is being done over the weekend. Shards of the metal are starting to poke through. Any advice on what and where I should get my new one? I can take the rope grab from the old one to use on the new one. Thanks in advance Stevie
  3. I've had a call from a similar company and put a thread up about them, Guild of master tradesman could be the same mob. They sounded well dodgy! The wife took a call the other day from someone asking to speak to the company director ( can you be a company director when there's on one of you? ) They asked if it would be interested in doing tree work for local schools in my area. Am going to join the Arboricultural Association some time soon.
  4. OK people I've just been and dropped off my gear and the loler guy doesn't know anything about spikes having to be checked. Do the standards for loler checks differ from Scotland to the rest of the UK? And I have no worries about the capability of the guy as he's well respected in his field and has been doing loler checks for a long time now. So bit of a mystery then.

That's low mate! Hope it doesn't put you out of business and I hope your not blaming yourself too much.
  6. I've got a couple of friends Paul and Abby who cycled the length of Peru a few years ago. And Paul last year cycled lands end to john o'groates then round the Shetland isle and then down to Inverness for my wedding.
  7. Thanks for the info guys. I drop my gear off tomorrow and pick it up on Sunday so will let you all know how it gets on.
  8. I didn't think of my spikes cheers bob. Another question, there are a couple of shards of wire starting to poke through on my flip line, they are not big shards. I have a feeling it will fail what do you think?
  9. Just shows you what I know. Do I also need to hand over my certificates of conformity?
  10. That took me a couple of seconds to get it. The farm thats been on the news about it is not that far from where I live.
  11. I was getting my kit together today as Its getting checked tomorrow and was wondering if my tool strop needs to be checked? Am pretty sure it doesn't but I thought I would just check. Thanks in advance
  12. Excellent bit of carving there! But how are they going to get it into the living room?
  13. Fantastic job again Reg! Your and your team are a inspiration and credit to our industry!
  14. The Beech tree pic is amazing it looks like clay!
  15. Looks good mate. Not to sure about the plant pot though!
  16. Nice work mate. From the way the photos are set out it looks like when you finished the job you had to start it all over again. That would be a horrible groundhog day!
  17. I don't think the missus would buy the excuse that I forgot to take the brick out of my pocket before I put a wash on.
  18. Classic! Bet the cat done it on purpose!
  19. Silky Sugoi 420-6.5 Large Sheathed Saw with saw pod. Great saw but some time I think its just a little bit to big. Also sawdust builds up at the bottom of the sheath which if you don't clean out the saw falls out, you also need a long skinny flat head screw driver to clean it out.
  20. Thanks for all the replies people. Am going to have a rummage around in my father in laws garage and see what wood I can borrow.
  21. My dog Ellie, in the 2nd picture she normally get feed up and lets the cat sleep in her bed.
  22. Personally I wouldn't bother mate. In my previous life I used to be in sales and worked for yell.com stuck it out for about 2 months then left as the sales technique was very pushy. knew a couple of guys who worked for Thomson local and they sounded even pushier. Apparently the water cooler would be filled with vodka and there was a lot of drug taking. I have just got my free entry on yell.com and in the book and have had a couple of jobs from it.
  23. Up at about 8am took my son and the dog for a walk so the wife could have a sleep in. Got back about half 9 and made the wife some breakfast then we lazed about until lunch time. The wife walk over to the in laws and I hoovered the house and cleaned up another dead bird that the cats brought in. Sorted out the tool shed and split some fire wood. Had Sunday roast at the in laws at 4 then had a kip on there couch until 8. Came home and watched Sherlock. And now I should be going to bed.
  24. Your a lucky man! I need to get changed out of my work gear in the tool shed before am aloud in the house.
  25. I wasn't to worried about critters bothering the chickens until a couple of days ago. I do live in the country side but mainly next to fields, there are some wood close buy through and I've never seen any foxes. But I was round at one of my neighbors doing a grass cutting job for her, she got 5 chickens a couple of days ago and on the second day she returned from a morning run to find a Mink with a chicken in its mouth. She chased it off and got a local game keeper up and he set a trap and within hours it was killed.
