  1. Does anyone know if you are covered by your insurance if your gear hasn't been LOLER'd? I have looked through my insurance docs but there's mention of it and I don't really fancy phoning them during the week. The reason I ask is that my gear is due its check but I will be starting a job where all my kit is supplied. I will still do the odd homers where I would use my own kit. I will be keeping up my monthly insurance payments for those odd jobs but don't really fancy paying £50 every 6 months for kit that I would be happy to climb on and happy to destroy if think it would fail. Cheers Stevie
  2. Do your gardening customers ever ask you about trees? Am guessing they do hence why your considering getting into tree work. If I was you I would get a local tree surgeon (you will probably find one here) and pass the work onto them in exchange for getting experience from them.
  3. I maintain the grounds for our landlord and a major part of that is cutting the grass. I use his westwood sit on that has a grass collector. During the cutting season I get one lap of the paddock done before I have to empty it. My next door neighbor has a mulcher and I get very jealous of him every time he's out cutting. But I cant complain to much has we get to live rent free in there house while they live in France.
  4. I've got a really good one but am not going to tell you about it! And I got a free chainsaw with it!
  5. Don't worry he's always spitting his tea out!
  6. I call people that annoy me a "Foxtrot" Which is short for "Foxtrot Uniform Delta" FUD!
  7. Are you just going straight for the tests or are you doing courses/test? Personally I would get your CS38 and then leave it a while before doing your CS39. Get a good couple of months climbing experience and some supervised uses of a chainsaw up a tree. I was going to do my CS39 straight after passing my CS38 but ended up leaving it about 8 months which looking back am glad I did as I would have probably failed.
  8. Had a great day knocking down a bunch of connys ( Larch, Spruce Cypress) about 10 trees in total. One tree was over hanging a neighbors garage, neighbor came out and thanked us. The Cypress was blocking a lot of light to another neighbors house, she came out and thanked us. The client supplied us with a bacon butty in the morning, made us lunch sausage butty and then finished the day off with a egg butty with cups of tea and biscuits with all. He was a very nice man as there was three of us working. I think most people would agree it was a pretty good days work (unless your a vegetarian) What was the best start to the day? Seeing the first pictures of our new baby's little heart beating Hope you all had a good day too! Cheers Stevie
  9. He's the safest American I've seen with a chainsaw! At least he had some PPE on. Also I like how he prefers to keep dead trees standing for the beasties.
  10. I wish I watched this video when I first started using a chainsaw. I wouldn't have had to spend money on a chainsaw course. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s05ucrqENLE]YouTube - ‪How to (or how how not to ) Cut Down a Tree‬‏[/ame]
  11. The question is Mike why are you online during working hours? Started pollarding a Holly tree this morning then it started raining then snowing. The job was close to home so home I came and am now trying to entertain my 9 month old son.
  12. There's been sightings of UFOs near me and we live near a RAF base. Not seen anything myself though.
  13. Whats the difference between a women and fridge? A fridge doesn't fart when you take the meat out.
  14. I something similar on the job I did on Sunday. Reduced a Cherry tree and I was always conscious that I was taken to much off, but when I finished both myself and the customer was happy with the result. When I originally looked at the job I priced it at a full days work but we where finished by 2pm. I couldn't justify charging the full price of the quote so I knocked £150 off the bill. The customer was happy to pay the full price but It would always have played on my mind that I had ripped the customer off.
  15. What do women and linoleum have in common? Lay them wright first time and you can walk all over them for years

  18. Had Thursday and Friday with the family. Gotta take the work when I can get it at the moment.
  19. Done a nice little job today started at 9 and was finished by 2pm and had a cold pint in my hand by 2.30. I was dead wooding and tidying up a nice cherry while I the other two lads where dismantling a Spruce. The sun was out and the views where amazing ( would have taken pictures but the wife had it for taking pictures of the wee fella, very inconsiderate if you ask me ) I wouldn't normally work a Sunday but if all jobs where like today I would happily work every Sunday. Tomorrow wont be as fun though, clearing an overrun garden!
  20. They also look for a vertical gob cut now.
  21. So what did shiny van man say to the homeowner?
