  1. Just to confirm - these gloves work! I have had them all this week and they have kept my hands warm - a bit too warm at times (sweaty). I found it very strange/brilliant that they grip the rope just as well in the wet! That's the problem with cheap builders gloves - great in the dry, but as soon as its wet, they slide down the rope like its been lubed up! It gets a bit hairy when slack tending on a rope guide, with no anchor point friction to help the grip!
  2. Yes, Shigo has to be the 'go to' man for tree education! After looking up the various modules of the rfs cert, i have come up with this list of books that seem very useful - what does everyone think to these? For the soil part... Essential Soil Science - M R Ashman & G Puri Woodland history/management/ecology.... Ecology of Woodlands and Forests - P Thomas & J Packham Woodland Management A Practical Guide - C Starr Trees and Woodland in the British Landscape, The Complete History of Trees, Woods and Hedgerows - O Rackham Tree Biology/physiology/ill health & treatments... Shigo - a new tree biology, modern arb Diagnosis of Ill Health in Trees - R G Strouts & T G Winter Planting and aftercare.... Tree Planting and Aftercare. A Practical Handbook - E Agate (Ed.) Could someone recommend books to do with health and safety, tree surveys, law etc? thanks
  3. 'Traditional Logs' from the Shell garage. Got to be the best by far.
  4. I know of treesource, but i would like to know which books to buy, not where to get the from thanks
  5. Over the last month, I have had a couple of nasty experiences with saw dust in the eye, including a trip to the doctors. I remembered mr bullman wearing the 'safe eye' goggles a while back and thought i would give them a go. Since wearing them, i haven't had any problems - even with saw dust blasting my face! get them! Safe Eyes Goggles | Fog Proof, Smear Proof, Scratch Proof Safety Goggles edit: yvonne beat me to it as i was typing!
  6. Looks very mystical!
  7. At ickworth park nr bury st eds, there's a big oak with several clumps of mistletoe growing as high as 60ft - i'll try to find a picture.
  8. I want to further my knowledge and eventually (i'm talking 3 or 4 years away) complete the rfs cert arb. Is there any specific reading material available? If not, what books should i buy to delve into similar subjects? thanks
  9. When i wanted to buy a new 200t last year, i found the best price on the internet (£426 inc) and went to my local dealer with that price - after a bit of haggling, they took it down from £480 to £435 which was a very good deal. To them, a sale with hardly any profit is better than no sale.
  10. If they have been very comfy and you don't like change, why change? The protector pro's are the best boots money can buy! ....... (completely objective opinion )
  11. Let me google that for you
  12. Took delivery of mine along with a very cozy Clark beanie. (thanks yvonne & co) They are so much more well made than the usual rubber palmed builders gloves I get and alot more comfy - I think we have a load of nasty, wet, mouldy robinias to dead wood tomorrow, so they will get a good test! I'll report back.
  13. give one of the arb shops a call who advertise here (plenty to choose from). they will give you good advise without trying to sell you really expensive stuff.
