  1. a splice will go through (almost) any crotch when retrieving, but the only way to get a bowline etc through most crotches, is to untie and then retie... i for one would never have the patience for that, plus you can't really use a knot with hitchclimber + vt.
  2. Tomtom One XL is the one to go for - simple but it tells you where to go and that's what you want from a sat nav, yes? easy to navigate through menu's, clear maps, big screen and cheap.
  3. you missed a bit sorry, kidding.... looking good as per usual
  4. had a 10m marlow for fruit trees etc, but it's now a 4m marlow after putting my silky through half of it

    Birds!

Anyone else having alot of trouble with birdnests? Probably a stupid question, but it's my first spring working in arb and i'm suprised how many nests there actually are! 4 tree's (or half trees) have been left standing in the last week, all collared doves or blackbirds. One customer from last week phoned the boss, saying that the nest, that was in a small yew tree, had 'fallen out and there was a broken egg next to it'. hmmm...... No wind to speak of and the nest was firmly wedged in thick yew..... Or do you just stick them through the chipper?
  9. (note: right click on the picture, then press 'view image' to see it smaller -sorry for the size) A friend is in Bangalore, India at the moment and has been to the famous 'Big Banyan Tree'. These are amazing, lateral shoots from the branches grow downwards, until they reach the soil and plant themselves. These branches and lateral roots keep growing and spread all around the main tree, making it look as if there are many trees in a grove, but it is the same tree that has spread out. Apparently this one has spread over 3 acres...
  10. I agree with the original post - a bit different, but with various activities like skateboarding or snowboarding, a 14 year old that has been practising for 4 years would be many times better than a 24 year old doing it for the same time...
  11. Happy Birthday Lovely weather for it!
  12. Yet again, bloody amazing!
  13. I'll put a reminder on my phone for April 16th 2011

  16. oh yeah, we did see that bit at the end of the day, we were going to bring the pole pruner with us tomorrow to finish it off (couldn't be bothered to go back up for a little bit on the edge). will post final pic just to get what little respect i had back ps. 'ffs' doesn't cover it although we did get A class tea service from the old couple, complete with tea cosy
  17. lol i think that would be best for them, a few 5000lb bombs and napalms
  18. shut it, you! there were various trees behind the hedge, so i see what you mean.
  19. Going back to december, this job was the definition of crap. now history has repeated, but twice as long! luckily this time, the sun was shining and we had loads of room to chuck stuff down. will finish the end corner tomorrow...
  20. will keep that in mind - our burn site is in the middle of an old ww2 airfield on a concrete pad, so should be ok
  21. Yes, sorry andy. They are on the burn pile under loads of other crap. It would of been ideal - the job was in Finningham, not far from you...
  22. looks good, mate. looks natural and not too regimented. looking forward to doing a few in the near future.
  23. We got rid of two yesterday, not quite 10 footers, though. Cut them down as far as possible, then whilst one person pulled the root up, the other cut/dug underneath it, with a skinny, post digging spade. We then chucked it on the back of t'tranny.
