  6. I finish on the (fri) 9th, seen that post but unfortunately i'm in on monday, also got a few days with RobRainford the week after (cheers pal) and got two exams on the 13th and i've also had a few possible opportunities pointed in my direction from PM, thanks guys you know who you are:thumbup:
  7. Done, and done:thumbup:
  8. I like a good debate as much as the next person and some of the posts in this one inparticular, from both sides, has been very informative and enlightening.. Just felt it was going too much off track and when people spoon or pigeon hole the rotten minority into or with the majority, i think IMO, and i am allowed one, that it is going to rile people and the thread will lose more than just its direction:001_smile: So, back to jezza:biggrin:
  9. thats the plan:thumbup: Thanks woodpicker
  10. Found out today that me and two other agency workers are being made redundant as there is no more money left in the pot. Its a temporary lay off for 6 weeks but i reckon its permanent as they already lost a big part of the work contract earlier this year, so thats me out of work for christmas:sad: (got my one weeks notice though) Unless... Is there anybody out there taking on at the moment? I feel its time for a change of direction and want to put some of this knowledge gained doing my FdSc to good use. So, would anybody be willing to take on/show the ropes/give a chance in Tree inspecting/surveying/consulting/ecology/conservation or the like. Need the experience and need to start somewhere, when one door closes another one opens:biggrin: Will work all over the North West and i'd travel further if the opportunity was right, my kids are still young and i would possibly consider eventual relocation if i can persuade my better half. I would be grateful for any opportunity Failing that does anybody need a hand on odd jobs at all, Ive got 30,31,38,39, chipper, and first aid, 3 years solid climbing a further 2 previous part time Cheers everyone:001_cool:
  11. Agreed, this thread had quite a lot of what I would consider to be flaming, distracting from the original question of whether jeremy clarkson should go or not... I'm sick of "all" local authority tree workers getting a bad name and being called lazy just because of a few of the older (and some of the newer) generation are!! We are not all the same and some of us do work very hard in horrible conditions! So unless you've got something to say about jezza, keep your opinions to yourself or at least start a relevant thread So in regards to the OP, I think he should stay... It was tongue in cheek and he's apologised Fair enough it wasn't the most appropriate thing to joke about but some people need to lighten up! Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  12. Agreed, I work for a legal authority albeit as agency staff and there are quite a few who are lazy and aren't bothered about the job... But... The are the exception not the rule and I am definitely not one of them, I work hard whoever I work for, public, private or myself So please don't put all us "council workers" in the same can't be arsed and lazy as sin bracket:sneaky2: Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  13. To be honest i quite enjoyed motorway clearance, and especially the night shifts too, didn't think it was hard at all:confused1: I'd have to agree on people/customers being the hardest aspect of arb:001_tt2:
  14. nice shape but those 3-4 top or "heading" cuts on the bigger stuff in the middle are going to go epi mad next year
  15. I'll try that ta:thumbup:
  16. why can't we all be happy and live in a eutopia?
  17. isnt 3% of 45 years 15 years not 20:confused1:
  18. i can't afford virgin media super ripper fast:lol: don't use it enough or watch enogh tv to warrant it:biggrin:
  19. Years of practice:lol: No only kidding, its a case of learning the shape of the leaf (scientifically) which helps for example in this case the leaf is definitely heart-shaped or "cordate", the stalked buds also helped:thumbup: but also lots and lots of reading I have many many ID books, at the last count it was 13, i have ordered a new one and got my eye on a few others. I do like the owen johnson one and also one to recommend would be Alan mitchells field guide of 1974, if you've not got it you'd have to but it second hand easily findable online.
  20. good point:blush:
  21. At the end of the day (i hate that saying) we all have our opinions, and quite rightly so... Now, you can't please everybody, and never will, joe will always be unhappy because bills got a better pension and bill's not happy coz bob has retired earlier The simple matter is, the world is riddled with a parasitic species who will never be happy:biggrin: Ps i'm an agency worker for a LA and get paid more than the actual full timers.... and we all get paid less than a lot of arborists... work that one out???
  22. Nice jopb and well thought out approach:thumbup:
  23. back on...... for the minute!
  24. I'm pretty sure its Alnus cordata due to the cordate shape of the leaf and as jwade says the pollarding would give the large leaves effect (they can be big anyway) Defo not a Eucalyptus though:lol:
