  2. Marco, You are right BUT.... In europe Quercus x rosacea is rather rare in its true form as Quercus petraea normally flowers a fortnight or longer AFTER Quercus robur These two oaks do hybridise regularly though but tend to be intermediate in characteristics
  3. Stag heads in oaks are due to the way in which the tree is retrenching its upper crown to use vital resources lower and where needed to retain survival and longevity:thumbup:
  4. You only told me the first letter Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

Is that tree sketch only available on apple? Can you get it on the interweb for PC? Looks well good!
  15. Are they Oaks? If so i'd guess top, Quercus douglasii and bottom, Quercus warburgii?? or Quercus bicolor
  16. I got an apprenticeship as an alarm fitter just as yts became New Deal and was on £69.50 a week, i remember it going up to £72.50 a week after 6 months and after 12 months i was out on my ear as the company merged and apprentices let go:sneaky2: Still if that hadn't of happened i wouldn't be where i am today so it wasn't a bad thing all in all and the apprenticeship gave me a job in a industry where you need to DO to learn and not just go to college or do certificates to be qualified. So yes, bring back YTS/Apprenticeships

  18. I did actually mention that but I'm just a scivvy and not in charge, the others would rather chop it up and move it on for firewood? Plus I dont know anyone round these parts who would come take it away for milling?? We've taken down a lot of big timber this past week, 75' beech and 60' ash amongst others, it has all gone for firewood but might have been better milled!
  19. Contacts made i wouldn't even have dreamt about making without arbtalk:thumbup:
  20. It'll probably look nice on the woodburners of the people we moved it onto, two full iveco 5 tonners of cherry wood!
  21. Is it in the members section? If so i have noticed in the past when searching for posts it doesn't find posts in this section and posts listed for users in their user profile are also missing from this part of the forum?
  22. Felled this large cherry at the start of this week. It was situated in a graveyard and IMO didn't need to come down for the reason it did (Pholiota), but we felled it anyway. You can't tell in the video but we had to avoid breaking a limb (growing virtually in the crown of the cherry) from the Copper Beech on the left and the second cherry on the right, so had to be careful with the direction and fell against a slight lean. Big gob, one wedge, pulling rope, over she came.. Criticism welcome:lol: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj_vTApihjs]Large cherry tree fell - YouTube[/ame]
  23. heres a small reduction i did back in august of an Acer platanoides, and then now without leaf. And another small reduction on a beech done last weekend
  24. Thanks again:thumbup: all duly noted and labelled, (and eventually learned:biggrin:)
  25. Some more from another Salix and a dead Acer stump
