  1. Its not that crap this one, but i couldnt find the jokes thread..... OLD people have problems that you haven't even considered yet! An 85-year-old man was requested by his doctor for a sperm count as part of his physical exam. The doctor gave the man a jar and said, 'Take this jar home and bring back a semen sample tomorrow.' The next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty as on the previous day. The doctor asked what happened and the man explained, 'Well, doc, it's like this--first I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing. Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then with her left, still nothing. She tried with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, still nothing. We even called up Arleen, the lady next door and she tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezin' it between her knees, but still nothing.' The doctor was shocked! 'You asked your neighbour?' The old man replied, 'Yep, none of us could get the bloody jar open.'
  2. If you claim vat back from before the date of first registration do you not also have to charge vat to customers during that same period?:confused1:That is one of the things what has dissuaded me from it.
  3. David that is a super set of photographs, as usual. Thanks for posting. One doesnt generally 'stop to look' as it were, whilst driving round the same trees day to day, yet seeing such beautiful sets of the same tree(s) makes me want to take more notice of individual trees at different times of the year. What, if anything in particular, triggered the taking of repeated photos of certain trees? A desire for a record/ work related/ favourite trees you see regularly etc etc?
  4. :confused1:Its a great pic......what a pose!!
  5. Maybe dean isnt going to Val d'Isere:sneaky2:
  6. And the number of cars on the road was far far lower, as less could afford them i suppose. According to the RAC in 1971 there were 19 million cars on the road, and in 2007 there were over 31 million on the road. We are truly addicted to them, as can be demonstarted by scores of moronic parents driving yards to school to pick their kids up, and the endless queus of commuters all one to a car, all going to the same office block...
  7. As i understand it the deposit is your guarantee that you will honour the deal, and it is what covers the vendor for keeping the item for you and not selling it. I think it is legal, and it is understood that if you dont fulfill the deal, you have lost the deposit. I could be wrong, as some deposits are stated as 'non-refundable', such as holidays etc. The best you can do is be totally straight with him and see what he comes up with.......maybe after getting clarification from the likes of Citizens advice.
  8. Cheers dave. It was when i was about 15 or 16, all i can remember is lots of noise, lights (it was nighttime) and arms coming off the thing!
  9. Not used those, but i can vouch for these..Scag Power Equipment - Simply The Best Commercial Zero Turn Lawnmowers.
  10. Dave- you had no FORMAL training, but your father was in a position to set you on the right path with his knowledge. For those that havent got a father/ relative/ good mate to show them or "train" them, formal training is the only option, or learning from mistakes, which could be costly, or at worst, deadly. I dont think that everyone should be paying loads to get NPTC tickets, but until shops are a little more conscious of what they are selling without any guidelines then i reckon training like the 2 day basic course is an excellent idea. I totally agree about the books that come with stihl and husky saws (i cant comment on other manufacturers) and would also point out that most of te pics and even text in the Lantyra training books are lifted out of the saw manuals that come with the saw. When i do a demo with the sawmill at my local saw supplier, i am flabbergasted at the number of people ( a constant stream) who are paying £15-20 for a chain sharpen!! For around £200 i still maintain that its worth every penny, although i do agree that its not an issue that should be forced onto people.
  11. Nice one mate. Do they have that mad alien monster machine that cuts trees up your way, or is it all done by guys like yourself? It was a machine basically designed by two mad hillbilly tractor hire brothers down here, who i think had a massive line clearance contract for years, and sold the design / machine to railtrack (or equivalent). I saw it one night and it was like an alien spaceship. That was near coventry that i saw it. At least, thats what i have been told, but i could be way off the mark.
  12. I never knew you felt that way luv, but thanks for the compliment:lol: Talking of numbers, i have lost yours, seing as how i have never stored it in my fone. Can you PM/ text me with it pls. Ta.
  13. Cheers. you, unlike me, did spell it right.
  14. Something different though, even without tree work. Its not every day that you get that close to a train crash. (not sure i would WANT to, but interesting nonetheless.)
  15. 077470 43795 There you go.
  16. Do you know what crane it was?. I know one of the drivers who moved the trains after the kings cross crash......2 libherrr 1000tonners for that.
  17. Absoloutely couldnt agree more., although i would go for the 088 over the 3120. I have stihl and husky saws, but i really think the 088 has the edge for this application.
  18. That sounds flippin scary Dave! Go steady mate:001_cool:
  19. Look on the bright side of things Dean- at least you have access to Arbtalk again!!
  20. Brilliant. Thanks Flaming Ace. What a machine!
  21. Paul- no worries on the Bud thing... The course that Ian and myself refer to is a Lantra course, with no NPTC assessment, and that is why it is so cheap. To do the same sourse with an NPTC test tacked on the end would incur at least another £90 down here, so your prices from Sparsholt are not necessarily that much adrift. Before we get bogged down into a row on a forum, which i have no desire to do, I think the point being made is how useful and highly recommended a 2 day Lantra course would be, aside from any Legal or otherwise requirements. For example, if one is in the position where one takes a saw to a shop to be sharpened, the bill could run into 3 figures by the time the chain is worn out, as IME most shops seem to want 15-20 quid per sharpen, and there are more than 5 sharpens to a chain. This alone would recoup the cost of the course, aside from any maintainance costs at a dealer. That is the sort of thing i was referring to by mentioning any 'standard'
