  1. Nah keep those so-and-sos well out of it.......we had someone go through a hedge and i charged him £1500 or i would call the police.....he was back in 30 mins with the cash......use them as a threat to get more money, its a better deterrent than they will give him i reckon.
  2. Its a small community isnt it.......... My new (ish) groundie has been after a new set of boots for a while, and he tells me he got them off Clarke Engineering (arbtalkers), without any prompting from me....i thought it was a funny coincidence as i have been telling him I could get him some through 'the Talk' for a while:001_rolleyes:he just wanted to sort it himself though.. So thanks guys you've made my groundies feet very happy, and hopefully a bit quicker too:lol:
  3. Climbing trees indoors....that looks fun!!
  4. Thats a lot of saws for a man who is starting out.....!! You certainly wont ned any more saws! PPE if you dont already have it, and some public liability insurance is a good idea although not strictly a legal requirement.
  5. He he, funny vid Rupe!
  6. Glad it arrived safe and sound.......dont be afraid to use it mind!!
  7. That gallery is great - i love the Mk1 tranny with the big tarpaulin cover towing a similarly liveried trailer.....
  8. I have haix protector pros, and wasnt aware that they have a steel insert.
  9. aaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!
  10. I know the Logosol unit, and is a very nice bit of kit indeed. I would still recommend an 088 though. A 66 would run on that niceley, but once you start getting into really big timber- and i am sure that once you have the kit you will!- then the 66 will struggle a little bit, but then again i have just got a 390xp and it seems to have bottomless power, and 2 piston rings, so you could be well sorted. The Logosol i saw had an 088 running a 25" bar cutting featheredge boarding, and was revving like hell..... Actually, thinking about it, is there a limit on bar length given that one end of the bar is unsupported? I reckon with a 48" bar you would find it bends too much on its side, so that in itself may rule out a 088..
  11. I dont know of any chainsaw boots that have steel inserts in the sole, as i dont expect that many maunfacturers factor that into their design, but i know of some steel capped boots that are waterproof, have steel soles and are mega comfy, they are called Amblers Steels abd cost around £35-40. Although i dont, i know a few tree surgeons who use them. It hurts doesnt it BTW.....
  12. There was a big thing in the local paper about it a while back, our local officer(?) goes by the wonderful name of Loveday Jenkin! On a similar vein i was fortunate just before christmas to 'meet' a yew that was mentioned in the domesday book. In the darkness it had the shape of a billowing elm, and its diameter was more than my outstretched arms....
  13. LOL no Dave. I was always brought up to put a jumper on not turn the heating up.
  14. :confused1:HOw on earth can a bill for gas be that high??? I used about £120 worth of gas in the last 4 weeks, and thats in a Rayburn which arent the most efficient things on earth, and all our windows are ancient and knackered with howling draughts. I dont get it.Do townies walk around in their houses with the ceentral heaing ramped up so they only have to wear t shirts in doors? That seems to be the only explanation i can come up with!
  15. Beautifully summed up there Will (?).

Paul, i wouldnt be too hasty in misinterpreting what CTS has said to you. From my point of view it is very sound advice, from a guy who is actually pretty knowledgeable and runs a very succesful company, with contracts throughout cornwall, and who has worked for alot of people. His point about handing out a CV with shed loads of short term jobs on it IS going to make readers of said CV a little wary of taking you on, as they may see it as someone who will leave/ let them down at short notice, or at worst will think something is amiss with you as a person hence the number of jobs an applicant has had. There is no fastrack way to making it in this (or probably ANY) workplace, so like the man said, get in with a company, get some years at their expense under your belt, and then maybe try going it alone again. I dont know if there is anything between you an Dave Matthews, and its none of my business anyway, but i have to say that his points are valid as far as i can see on this thread. Best of luck with the hunting mate.
  17. And what is the ROOT CAUSE of all this.People, media, politicians etc etc going on about the symptom, and until the ROOT CAUSES are dealt with , this problem will not go away.
  18. Usually similar to firewood prices i find.
  19. Smoking fires arent necessarily from a downdraught. If your house has no way for air to get in to feed the fire, you will get 'oxygen starvation' which basically means that the fire cannot expel the smoke it creates as it cannot make enough draught to let it get up the chimney, so it periodically (every few minutes/ even twice a minute) will spew out all the smoke that is caught in the throat of the chimney (the first few feet above the visible fire place. Next time it happens, try opening a window slightly and see if this helps. If it does then you need a draught in the room that the fire is in, preferably an air brick in the wall with a rectangular pipe under the floor to a vent in the floor (which can be closed when not needed) next to the hearth. If you just put an air brick in then you will have a howling draught through the room. This problem usually happens on the prevailing wind BTW. You could try putitng a cowl on the top of the chimney (which should be dead level in all directions across the top) which will reduce the draw on the flue giving nearly the same effect.
  20. So do I, but there is far more here than us and them. The attitudes displayed in this thread are exactly what has caused/ accelerated the yawning social divide that increases the number and vindictiveness of those that want to go against normal society in every way. Until you have lived on the other side of this social chasm you cannot begin to understand what drives these people, and the situation will self perpetuate for ever more. Be prepared for it to get worse as the recessin bites harder in the coming year too.
  21. Yuck....off roaders.......you are opening a life of beardy weirdy hell letting those freaks on your land......
  22. Dont be put off posting benjii, you will often find conflicts of interest on a forum like this, and it musnt be taken to heart.
  23. Until the root cause of the problem- gross social injustice and an oveblown sense of self worth among the 'haves' is addressed, and the REAL effects of capitaliam are revealed, then there will ALWAYS be the 'have nots', so delicately lumped together and slated in this thread. I cannot believe the ultra simplistic arguments and anecdotes being written here. It is no wonder this country is so bigoted and socially ignorant.
  24. I grew up not far from there, and regularly passed through on the way to the chainferry across the mouth of poole harbour (incidently the largest natural harbour in the world). It is a ghetto for the superrich. Unfortunately they also happen to be new money in general which just means that they are completely full of self importance and an overblown sense of self worth. They display all the characteristics of the lower class scum that they truly are, themselves misunderstanding the fact that wealth has NOTHING to do with class, and having a range rover sport just makes you look like a rich chav. It also seems to imply -in their view- a sense that they have some sort of inherent power and exclusion from the rules of society........parallels that can be drawn with the sort of kids that hang around on estates in town at night........they too believe that vandalsim is abn acceptable practise and that a range rover sport/ BMW x5 is one of life's goals. Tossers.
