  1. Tommy that is, as per usual, absoloutely mind blowing......and in my FAVE wood- olive ash. Its that stuff that got me into sawmilling. Top class work mate.
  2. Good man John, get that mitsi working mate. I put so much in the landy and trailer this afternoon that when i stopped on a hill i slid backwards........oops.
  3. Thanks for the nice comments guys.I was actually thinking 'i wish demi would stop taking pics of me....i bet i look a right twit in this stein helmet' Finishe it off today, and even managed to sell over £200 worth of rings to a firewood merchant round the corner from the job.....bonus:thumbup: I have some more pics here, including one of the hinge just to give you lot a bit of sport.....
  4. I quite agree,best method.
  5. Yeah it is, but the angle of the picture is a bit deceiving, it was clear after the lower side had the crown stripped. There was also a phone line that had to be untangled from a sycamore which had stretched it horizontally to its limit, and under the line of the ash. We tied the phone line back to the syc with a rope once I had trimmed the branches out. The other reason the uphill side of the tree had to be striped out before the fell was that it would have weighted the tree to much to ensure an accurate fall, and probably wound up in the house and ornamental flower bed thing. As it happened this was a pretty wise decision given the level of decay in the base.(pics tomorrow)You could easily get your arm into the stump past you elbow, and the same in the bottom of the butt, and you could grab huge handfuls of decayed timber, not only wet stuff but also fluffy/ stringy/ powdery stuff.
  6. We stripped out the crown on the one side so as it didnt get buried in the lawn of this rather nice property. We didnt actually take any of the height down, then felled in one. The lawn has received a pleasingly small amount of damage.
  7. I finally managed to get my camera out on a job.....This is an ash that had some decay issues......meripilus i think...The climber is Demitri. He doesnt usually work for me, but as i have been up all week and he needed the work (and is a MUCH better climber than i will ever be probably) I got him in:001_smile:I felled it,and me and Demi logged it while my excelent groundie cleared up the brash. Minimal sawdust to clear up as we put tarps down whilst we were logging. Had it on the deck in about 2 hrs.More pics when we have finished tomorrow .
  8. As you all know i am a landy man, but for this job i wouldnt even consider anything but a disco 3 or a toyota landcruiser. Forget the hilux they ar ea waste of time in my experience, and totally unsuited to your application. Mitsubishi l200 is not much different to a toyota hilux, and dont get me started on nissans.......The old patrol was pretty good, but only buy a nissan now if you want yo look like a hairdresser i reckon. TBH the older landcruiser is about the ultimate fot your application, and good for 300k easily. Good luck with this minefield mate.LOL
  9. An artic can get to the bottom then is foooked. My neighbour has experience of it lol
  10. If only it were that simple. I kid you not, artics are a DEFINITE no-no.
  11. :confused1:Its not a hi-cap its a tipper...
  12. Fukn tempting, even more tempting to get them in with the artic......it'll never get out again though lol.
  13. I dont believe a friggin word of it. You are the second person this week who has seen that lorry heading this way. The blag was that the lorry was broken down, then it was the crane that was having problems. He offered me an artic load, but he knows that i cant get an artic in here.
  14. Breakthrough tonight. I have left about 4 messages on the e-f phone, and got a call tonight from the man himself. Apparently the 8 wheeler is broken down and will be back on the road on monday ish. I'll believe it when i see it though. What i heard is that all the larch they are cutting is infected with p.ramorum and cant be taken off site, and that there is a veritable mountain of the stuff up at Ley (trago area).
  15. Couldnt agree more. You may even find a 2 day course teaching maintainence and cross cutting, without the felling side, which would be sub £200 mark. Well worth it, and on top of heating bill savings, you will save a fortune on not paying a shop to service your gear. Good luck with the firewood.
  16. Hello mate. Tricky one that. I would have thought AT LEAST 50 wouldnt be far off. The shortness is a slight issue and has affected the price. Stick an thread up on here and see if you get any takers.....Sorry if thats not much help mate.

    Tommer.

  18. Still waiting......even a reply to my call would have been good.......
