  1. LOL it was a bit of a boys-toys day Josh!
  2. Thats grim- i had to turn it off after about a minute. What must it be like to live in Russia????
  3. Good point on the drying front there Big J. That wood il be fairly green n the middle for a year or two yet.
  4. There is 3 1/3 cubic feet in that slab. I would say that air dry CLEAR (no knots/ sap etc) oak is worth around the £50/ foot mark. Its difficult because you only have the one piece, which will mean that it wont fetch the same value, weirdly enough. TBH i would ask him for a bit more and see what he says. A oner wouldnt be too far out.
  5. I reckon it is just someone who hasnt a clue what they have. He is some sort of motor trader, who may have just had a bit of clearance done, and just wants rid.
  6. Hi guys. Just a few pics from a job the other day, moving some macrocarpa sticks for a mate. AD15 helped fell these, and me and carver si helped move them The guy whos job it is made the king cab on the 130, which although battered (thanks to his son) is an excellent tipper.
  7. Glad you got it back. You ought to have taken pics/ got evidence of its provenance, then sent them a really high bill for the wood, followed up with a solicitors letter when they didnt pay.....
  8. You spoken to Dan Upton? I heard that he is scaling down his arb operation to concentrate more on the fuelwood side. Could be wrong, but might be worth a punt.

If you are that short of work you could use your time ringing suppliers or looking at websites to find the answer out. The more you put into life the more you get out.
  10. Round here about 200 notes per man per day is average. That covers equipment costs etc too.
  11. YOu know i dont mean it mate. I sympathise- my bottm lane to the farm is a fave for tranny loads of mattreses, batteries, litter etc etc to be dumped.
  12. Dean you ungrateful sod. I drove all the way from cornwall in my tranny to deliver that stuff, and you plaster it all over arbtalk that someone has been flytipping. Thats the last time i bock your driveway. And i thought we were mates. Thanks a bunch.
  13. Actually you are wrong ady. Stihl have a BS policy that if you sell saws to someone who then sells them on even without your knowledge, and they are not a 'licenced' seller by stihl, the original seller has 3 chances and they lose their licence to sell stihl. They also have spies all over the world checking this does not happen. A very well known supplier on this website has almost fallen foul of this, losing one of their 3 strikes last year.
  14. In cornwall (about as windy as any coastal area) hedges are often euonymous and tamarisk, but tamarisk isnt much good as a wind break. In your casde, needing height, then we also have ALOT of q.ilex (holm oak) that survives the salt laden winds, and cupressus macrocarpa, which also does. The only problem with cupressus is that in its native environment (monterey bay area) they are stunted from poor soils. Here they tend to shoot up to around 130' easily, then fall over. Laterals are also very prone to longitudinal splitting from having lots of end weight on the branches, so they may niot be termed as truly low maintainance. If you want a tall thik hedge type of shelter, then had you thought of, dare i say it, leylandii. It is a cross between nootka and monterey cypress, so should survive salt and wind. It is not low maintainance though.
  15. God that takes me back.......The last time i went was the year that hundreds of meters of fence was down- it was a chaotic and very nervy glastonbury that year. I haver heard it is MUCH better again now that they have numbers under control. Looks likeyou had a good time. I am only going to one this year- The Secret Garden Party 2010 - Official Website

  18. Wonderful thread David, thanks for taking the time. I have wanted to do that for years. I am off to the website now.....
  19. I totally disagree. Sorry. I have spent nearly every sunday of my married life (10 yrs) doing this to get back to a total ****hole every monday afterwork. It works as long as the other members of your household make even the tiniest attempt at the same direction. All i end up with is even higher stress levels as i NEVER get any me time.
  20. That magirus on ebay is a good tool.....pete your mk(?) looks as if it would have made an excellent truck. Sorry to be ignorant, but 'sprags'??
  21. Hahaha thats hilarious. I saw a pub advertising 'duck al orange' once..
  22. Ah- i get it. YOu should be fine then. There are some dealers advertising on here, who offer very good prices.
  23. NPTC is also internationally recognised.
