  1. Except that the rear handled 200 is not available any more, to the chagrin of the carving community. The story allegedly goes that some homeowner was cutting firewood one handed, holding the log with the left hand, and he cut his thumb and forefinger off his left hand, whilst exclaiming to his wife what a wonderful tool it was that allowed him to cut one handed. If you feel that strongly about it then get one off ebay, and find out for yourself.
  2. I have a cindercone that i built up and its luvverly. Bought a second hand frame and went for it. Really nice steel classic.....it MAY be for sale....
  3. I sooo wish that life was slower.....I have only just got in this evening after resawing what the vintage boys did, and breaking down the mill to take it over to Trelissick house tomorrow.
  4. The minute i saw that machine start up i thought of yours Dave. If i had the money i would have it off you like a shot.

    Deer

As a child growing up near Poole harbour we used to nip across to Brownsea Island, where it was possible to feed wild deer. I suppose they were very used to seeing non threatening humans. My mother has a photo of my younger brother, arm outstretched, with a bambi stretching its neck out to the limit to take the grass or whatever my bro was offering. Amazing stuff.
  6. Totally. The old guy in the vid is 83. The bench is either 90 or 70, depending on who i was talking to....
  7. It is different for every single one of us. You need to work out your costs to do the job, and to live off, and that will give you your basic day rate, the minimum you need to cover your bilss, both work related and household, and then put something on top as a contingency, and then a bit on top for 'yourself'. As you can see the variants are massive, but only you can work out your own figures.
  8. Haha- they are scary things eh?
  9. I was asked to lend / supply some logs for a demo of a 1940's stenner sawbench (mobile) at the cornich tractor clubs rally this weekend. Here is a video and some pics of a few old lorries. The tractor driving the mill is a TVO fuelled Case. This rig was being used commercially not that long ago- about 15 yrs i think. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UUwZVIGq7s]YouTube - 004[/ame]
  10. Crikey!!! Thanks for the pics.!
  11. Looks really nice there mate. I love pics 4 & 5.
  12. I have never heard that there is increased kickback, and cannot see that making sense. Kickback is caused from how you use the saw nopt from the position of the handles. They tried to ban them altogether some years back, after a particularly nasty accident involving one-handed use by a domestic user I believe, but the industry said we need them, tools of the trade, so HSE relented, and allowed them to be used by qualified personnel in a tree only. I dont know why the hell you would want one on the ground anyway, they are a total PITA if you ask me.

    fathers day

Nowt. Didnt even know it was fathers day. Dont hold with it anyway....i think its an invention for the benefit of card sellers TBH.
  14. Like justin says- there are weaver harnesses available. I have one and although a bit cumbesome compared to the likes of Petzl navaho etc, its a great piece of kit.
  15. Use crappy shed cladding which is the same thickness as the chain in place of wedges, and you can also avoid drop off by using the bar between the two rails that holds the handle in the middle of the mill.
  16. Hi lindisfarnecharcoal (BTW do you have a name, thats quite alot to type!!) is this what you do for a living, ie commercially? What is your website address? A mate down here did it for a while, but went into milling in such a way that the charcoal production stopped. The charcoal was a million times better than 'tescos' stuff though. I would be interested in getting a kiln going.
  17. YOu are taking the pee arent you mate??????? Surely????? If you want this job you have certainly made it very hard for yourself already. Why should he go to the bother of pm-ing you when it clearly says in the ad to ring or email him? This is only marginally better. If you want a job, get on the effing blower and prove that you WANT to work, not the other way round. There is a recession on guys, and any opportunities wil be hard fought nowadays, and the attitude you pair have shown is not exactly endearing to a potential employer....to put it tactfully:thumbdown:
  18. Thats because he isnt getting what he wants i suspect. They dont generally make more than a few k, even with all those bits hes bolted on, they are old cumbersome things that few people want to spend decent money on nowadays.
  19. Excellent answer Tony. Thanks, i didnt know that either.
  20. It doesnt say there is a reserve, but it has got 9 days left...
  21. Nice one Simon. Look forward to some more pics. I would love to get a go on a bat detector round the farm, as we have 7 mineshafts in the fields, and all the barns etc, and i regularly see them.
  22. Just had another look at it.....I really want it now!!
  23. Haha i saw that the other day....awesome bit of kit. They seem to go for 2-3 k if they are ok.
