    hat

Spat me tea out there dave:lol:
  2. Every tree, without fail, especially specimen vets, or stuff with smooth thin bark such as Beech, or a nice snake bark maple. I hate trees, and would happily climb a ramorum infected larch the day before I climb a nice ailanthus or the like. Why do you ask ? Is that wrong?
  3. I am not trying to be clever, but I would suggest a load more pics Tony.
  4. Well someone had to do it lol!!
  5. Good luck mate. Hopefully you will make it as a valued 'volunteer' for someone:thumbup1:
  6. Lol that reminds me- we need more salt! We share the house with the little barstewards. At times of the year they are numerous in the downstairs.....I havent trodden on one.....YET! I have always lived in really old properties, and as a kid I grew up with slugs in the house. My sister trod on a huge orange one in barefeet once in the kitchen....aaaarrrggghhhh:thumbdown:
  7. The Queen's own British ones. It equates to about 'the skys the limit' cornish tonnes:lol:
  8. Yeah i meant Compartmentalisation. My initial thought was that, but in my inexperience of fungi, I have noticed meripilus on occasions that k.... deusta, but I suppose more because it is so obvious to the untrained eye.
  9. 24 tonne (or 23.9 to be precise) is the legal road limit for ag vehicles as i understand it.
  10. Thanks for those shots David. There is one shot of particular interest to me which is the close up of the individual root. This looks quite fibrous almost, and also a bit damp. I am now wondering in perhaps the killer wasnt merip. Heres some pics of the tree in question, but i fear that they are not of sufficient quality to be of any use. (As it happens the T.O has advisd 5 day notice without fail on the neighbouring tree, due to the extreme possibility of loss of human life in this case, but I would like to attempt to establish the cause) If its of any relevance to ident, there is evidence of C.O.D in the roots, but you cant make it out in the pics, and they seem fairly dry at the points of failure, the breakages look similar to that found in branches that are dead in the canopy of hardwoods if you know what i am trying to explain... (sorry- monumentally awkward and large radiata deadwood today- only just got in)
  11. Haha- youre right....I felled a huge twin stemmer today.........of leylandii, and it took me longer to sweep up than to get it down....it must have been way over 11 feet tall, possibly even 12!! Actually it was p1ss funny- he wasnt there when i looked at it, so i phoned him and he told me to go in his garden and i would see the tree in the corner...I had to ask him to describe the garden in detail over the phone as i couldn't see any trees!!
  12. Cool. Its stunnig timber, especially if burry of course, and along with ash was partly responsible for me getting into milling. I rarely see even 15" diameter elm, and its almost exclusively u.stricta, so long and skinny whilst it survives.
  13. Just noticed this thread again......does that say 'FOREground' or 'FAIRground' on your dhip box?
  14. Definitely a shame. Anyone using the timber? Can you get some pics of the others kev. I was born in Lincoln, and moved away soon after, but i had no idea there were mature elms there!
  15. Tony, (or anyone else!) do you have any closer-up pics of what the roots look like on a windblown fagus. I have a clearance of one that has failed due to a root fungus, which i suspect is meripilus, and has ended up clipping the corner if a bungalow. There is another mature fagus about 20 foot from this one, (both trees are on the edge of a wood, thus spreading one-sided,) the one still standing will without doubt land on the bungalow with catastrophic results- the elderly couple sleep in a dormer bedroom in the loft. I am concerned that this may spread to the neighbouring tree, if it hasnt already. I have pics of the fallen trees roots, but they are crap, but from good pics i may be able to tell. Waffle over.
  16. Dave, are you so busy you have to go all the way to london to find it now?
  17. Old fashioned telephone bell sound- really audible. I have had the 24 ringtone- that is flippin ace!!
  18. Brilliant Simon. Your outfit looks REALLY profesional too BTW. I would be very proud to run that lot mate.
