  1. I have just read the timber frame bit- he risks SERIOUS problems in the not too distant future.....
  2. Pete- thats very nice, but do you realise that Turkey oak is unuseable for anything outdoors, or anything structural at all? It is incredibly poor quality timber, which moves horrendously during drying and rots quicker than a quick thing. I am fairly surprised that the miller didnt alert you to this.....!!! On the (small) plus side- the pattern is amazing, with very strong medullary rays, which were prized among furniture makers if they could ever get hold of it not split or warped or rotten. It was also known as wainscote oak as it was deemed useles for anything ither than the panelling of rooms. Im sorry to be the harbinger of doom and all that....
  3. I have never found anything sturdy about TW in any form....
  4. With supermarkets they can afford it because they just make the farmer pick up the cost....on a 2 for 1 deal they just load the bill onto the farmer...they wont actually tell/ ask him, but when they finally settle up (six months later!!!!!!) they just say ' sorry we had a 2 for one so were only paying you half. Its the same for loss leaders and all the offers.
  5. I can only comment on the protector pros. I have had one pair that the sole came away from the upper for about 2", but didnt affect the performance of them one bit.
  6. Had haix for years- NEVER had a problem yet.
  7. Brilliant. Im gonna adopt that idea!
  8. Of course all of this is totally irrelevant when one examines the difference between, and consequence of quoting in court, the Magna carta (which is LAW), and all the Statutes that have become known as laws ever since. It is interesting to note hat a summons to court is purely a request (which through hundreds of years of subservience and non-questioning on the part of the uninformed public has been forgotten) and things such as the fact that when in court, under constitutional (magna carta) law, you cannot be tried for civil offences (anything that isnt murder, rape, burglary etc) by a body of people (eg 'The Crown' or 'The police' etc), it MUST be a named person (John smith etc). Again- through hundreds of years of abuse and neglect of this system it has become rather null, although not inexistant. The development of the magna carta and common law is all relevant to this, and essentially, if you are in court for something which is not 'natural law' (such as driving offences, or non payment of fines etc etc) then you may demand which person has a claim against you whilst you are in the dock (in the EXACT correct wordage, which i am not sure of, along with 3 other important questions, including asking the judge his name (!!)) and if the charge is not brought by an INDIVIDUAL who must have a personal complaint, then you can walk free. That is all fairly random, and I dont remember the proper terminology, but let us not get bogged down in statutes by public SERVANTS such as the ignoramuses that are VOSA. On top of that i feel that the more we all cowtow to these petty money making schemes (which is what the majority of the 11,500 statutes that were passed under the last government are) the more it will encourage the dictatorial state we are getting towards to flourish. What i am saying is this- until you get caught, drive on. You WILL only get a warning first time.
  9. Thats a cool tool mate......very useful. Now, where did i put that lump of scrap plough i had.....
  10. I have been bombarded with the fire safety one on several occasions....
  11. Is that similar to a manual- or does your friend have a penchant for spanish waiters:confused1::lol:

    Kauri

Thats a thing of beauty mate, a joy to watch. Thanks for posting.
  13. You know you want to Bri. Dave- he just PM-d me and asked me if i thought pink love hearts onthe side of the hoper and the words 'i luv my gravely' on it would look okay:001_rolleyes:
  14. Going back to the bolting the box down, you could use gutter bolts facing upwards with a nylock nut to hold it in place, and put silicone under the head of the bolt before you tighten it up, ensuring no leaks and helping to hold it all too. Could you not get/ make a couple of roof bars on which to mount it thus avoiding the problem and saving the cab roof?
  15. Flippin heck mate- excellent job you've done there! Dont let Dangerous Brian see this or his gravely will be back in my workshop for a rebuild- I welded up the fins in the flywheel last week....thats enough for me lol
  16. Cant make my mind up on them. I have had mine for about a year now with the smoked visor, and TBH i have to say i think i prefer my Petzl for climbing. I find the stein a bit hot, and the biggest downside is the fact that the visor has become scratched (second visor- first fell apart) where it slides up and down. Its a very comfy lid though.
  17. I used a bit of mix once when i had a blocked oiler, but its worth having the pick up pipe out and check its not blocked before pouring stuff in the tank i reckon.

    Gutted.

Mesterh, I thnk that the point that Lindisfarne charcoal was making was about the reactions of some people to the news about moat. It seems a bit pot calling kettle black to go on one thread saying you would maim and kill for you property, yet on the other to criticize those who call a killer a hero. i TOTALLY agree with that sentiment.

    Gutted.

Well said. I also find it distasteful that every time he is mentioned then there are reactions about dole scrounging layabout slappers. I find these comments so negative and ignorant, almost as unfounded as those who call moat a hero. In order to cast aspersions such as those I think that one has to have lived that life. I spent a few years living with the sort of people I have just mentioned, and I have to say that to lump them all together as lazy layabouts is grossly unfair and bigoted. Maybe as a society we should be less judgenmental and look at all of our own lives before laying into those less fortunate than ourselves, most of whom DO NOT choose that way of life. It is a sad indictment of modern society.
  20. Mine is nothing like that- i had it rebuilt at the cost of £2500 40k ago. Honestly, my landy is like a new one underneath the mud and dents.....
  21. Looking into this further, there is a link to a donation page for the Woodland Trust.
  22. Yes i liked it. When i fisrt saw the headline-'Tree planting trip for biking duo'- i must admit that I thought it was going to be a bit of a wishy-washy fundraising affair, but its actually quite sorted out. Actually not THAT sorted maybe....(quote)"In all honesty, the training has not gone too well"..
  23. I am well chuffed with the sides Ed. TBH its been a bit of a birthday for the landy, which is running better now than in the 8 years i have had it. Its had a new gear and transfer bix and the rear diff sorted, and now its looking tops too!! The roofrack was a lucky find really. I used to do alot more work in woodlands, and kept trashing cabs. I got one through a mate and the guy offered me the rack for a tenner!! It may have been home made, albeit very well, as it isnt galvanised though, but is perfect for when the back is full, and you would have a job to nick anything at the lights too!
