  1. Oooh interesting. Not sure whether my commercial interests ovetake my tree preserving interests on that one....especially as i have spent all day today tackling planning on 3 big TPOd trees, and about 3 days worth of work on a whole line of TPOd trees....
  2. Lol- not so much ownership as a ball and chain  I wouldnt be without mine for the world
  3. Got home earlier to see my dog...... (apologies for quality)
  4. Yeah a disco could probably be found for that price- almost certainly a 200tdi, which is one of the best engines that landy ever made IMO.
  5. Although I think that landies make the best arb trucks, having had series landies, I would have to agree with Chris here. To me they arent a really viable working vehicle, unless you are somone who loves the older kit and the issues with it anyway.
  6. Yet again a fine set of pics from the book of Ace Adventures!!!
  7. It is accepted practise to use spikes on a live tree when performong an emergency rescue anyway. This whole thread rings a bit hollow though anyway......can anyone here quote, TRUTHFULLY, of failure of a tree due to the use of spikes. How about the giant redwoods that the Llikes of Sillet etc used to spike up? Its an interesting thread, but mired in far too much egotistical 'i am holier than thou' stuff. In the grand scheme of things just how bad is it......REALLY? Lets compare it to line clearance/ utilty arb if we are going to get this het- up about it. |Can we not reign in our emotions a bit here?
  8. Older land rover- you can get early tdi's for that money, which will have had most things changed by that time. They are very cheap on parts too. Or an Sj as has been said. I would personally steer clear of the likes of hi-luxes for that price. I have had a couple, and they kept going wrong. I think for something jap at that price it would be almost on its last legs, and they are VERY pricey to repair too.
  9. There are real probs associated with crotch rigging with braided line..you should run it through a pulley as you alter the way the rope works by flattening it out running through a fork. This means excessive wear and glazing on the underside, the top side becomes flaccid and useless, and the edges are doing the work, thus wearing prematurely, reducing your ropes ability (potentially) to 40% of its strength, and very premature wear. Basically.
  10. I run 285/75/16 BFG. I reckon they would fit under a 3" lift on a disco, but they rub the arches on standard height. If not i would go for 265s. 285s are fine on a defender, but be aware that your speedo will be almost exactly 10% out. BTW i pay £137/ tyre fitted balanced VAT etc. About the cheapest i have found anywhere on that size.
  11. LOL- theres quite a long way between N.Z and Salford!!
  12. Couldnt agree more. Its usually the TPO'd trees that are the biggest problem view- wise, and ALWAYS in the wrong place. They are most inconsiderate these trees, and should have as much harm inflicted on them as possible, out of spite, to punish them for what they have done. Bad trees.
  13. so you should be...thats inexcusable:001_tongue::lol: I dont envy you that job Ad. If you need any help or dry workshop space, just shout/ help yourself.
  14. Very nice. It polishes well, and good job you sticked it up quick- it doesnt do that well lying on the floor...
  15. BFG muds. Third set, and have half and half mak1 and mk2s at the mos. Fairly sure one set of mk1s had m+s written on them, havent really taken any notice for ages. They last soo long and are very good off road, not too noisy and fairly polite on road too. The A-t's are also excellent i am led to believe.
  16. I would hazard a guess that you have asked an impossible question. What a climber earns varies wildly, depending on all sorts of factors, such as location, experience, generosity of boss etc etc. I think the only way you are going to find out for sure, is to work out/ decide what you need/ want to earn, apply for a few jobs, and see what you can get away with charging.
  17. Ah. I know a farmer who has done just that, admittedly on a 56 plate 90. Naughty naughty...

As i understand it the coil either works fine or not at all, there is no middle ground. Are you getting fuel to the plug? Is it wet after turning the engine over?
  19. This has been in the landy recently.....[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SJqGR5u5LI]YouTube - ORBITAL. chime. live from glastonbury 1994.[/ame]
  20. It is to do with the use of the vehicle not the shape. There are still plenty of aftermarket options for rear seats such as Exmoor Trim, who will supply everything you need if your vehicle hasnt got the necessary bits. It is no longer legal to have sideways rear seats, like the old station wagons had, but again, you can buy fold up front facers if you so wish.
