  1. Just thought you could try SGM at Inverkeithing, I haven't hired from them but they are advertising chippers for hire.
  2. Usually I'd say AKRO but I tried to hire one also and was told about the waiting list.
  3. Paddy PM sent.
  4. Thanks Steve, just wondering what's out there.
  5. I am looking for a chainsaw winch. I know about Lewis winches but are there any others you would recommend, where to buy them or has anyone got one for sale ?
  6. Sandcastles. I hire it from Peter at Prolink Tel:07957317744, they are based near Strathaven. Yes the grapple is handy, I reckon this machine can do what 3 men could do so well worth the hire rate.
  7. I've hired this one a few times, fantastic piece of kit, saves a huge amount of time dragging brash etc. Wish I could afford to buy one.
  8. Jas Wilson at Dalbeattie 01556612233. He's advertising the Posch Autosplit for £7000 in Forestry Journal
  9. The "gent" in question knows absoultly nothing about woodlands, timber or firewood and only sees this venture as a way of making a quick buck. I am aware this is happening everywhere but it does get up my nose when they phone up looking for advice on price etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm the first to help if someone needs help or advice and have done so often at my own expence. Anyway, I've calmed down now and am chuckling at some of your replies.
  10. Far to early to offer to buy cord, give it time and I may get it for nothing.
  11. I should perhaps say that he is keeping his job and doing firewood on the side.
  12. There are more like him everywhere and, if it wasn't funny in parts I'd be crying, but as we all know firewood is easy
  13. I think the legs will go first.
  14. You have got to wonder if it's worth persevering with firewood when Customer phones up asking if I could tell him how much a trailer load of logs is worth (size 5'x4'x1') I ask if it's hard or softwood He answers "I think its soft because it's white inside" It transpires he has access to a 30 acre wood and he's going to sell firewood from it. All's fair in love and war and all that but this guy already has a good job. He goes on to say he has bought a McCulloch saw on-line but was disappointed as it was advertised as "easy start" and was expecting a start button or key but it seemed to have a pull start. He proceeds The saw ran OK for about 10 mins then stopped, would I know what was up with it ? At this point I was about to put to put the phone down but I thought I'd ask if he had any PPE (had to explain what PPE is). He replied "I'LL THINK ABOUT THAT ONCE I'VE MADE SOME MONEY FROM THE LOGS" Is it worth trying to produce a quality product when there are clowns like this out there. Apologies for the rant.
  15. Again not in Aberdeen but worth a call Chris Simpson Informed Tree Services - 07881677813 or Mat Cooper SAC - 07803222368
  16. Here's my splitter which I built myself.
  17. Yeah David, I do the same with my flipline but also have the running bowline on my rope.
  18. You should use a running bowline as a backup when taking the top out of a tree as it will give you an escape route if the stem splits as the top drops.
  19. You could try Thomas Baird at Slamannan or David MacKenzie at Auchenheath, Lanark.
  20. They look good Steve, I'll have a couple when they're available. Happy new year to all on Arbtalk.
  21. That looks nasty Steve. These stupid mistakes are easy to make, I managed to catch my finger in the log splitter at the start of December, broken finger and three stitches, strange thing was no pain but I did feel stupid. Hope you make a quick and full recovery.
  22. Give Chris Simpson (Informed Tree Services) a call 07881 677813. Informed Tree Services Tree Surgery Consultancy Consultant Tree Surgery Course Tree Surveys When he worked for SAC he was my instructor but now has his own company, great guy heplfull and informative. Check out his web site for prices (competitive).
  23. It may be beneficial to distinguish between type 1 and type 2 as they are lumped together in the statistics but are massively different in what causes them and their treatment. Shane, I don't have it myself but my wife does have type 1 and as long as you test your blood regularly and know what signs to look out for (Hypo & Hyper) then you should be OK.
