  1. Congratulations mate! Im in the same boat as you, did my 30-31 in December. Now im just saving up to do 38-39. cant wait. Good luck with your next course and keep tryin you will find work.
  2. Good bit of news there mate . Our barn got broke into last week. After breaking through 2 gates they used hammer and chisel to smash through a box section steel door. They took 2 motorbikes, 2 strimmers, hedge cutter & other items. A tracker sopunds like a good idea indeed.
  3. Stereo... That's wonderful to hear about your mum getting on with it and having full health I was scared when I got it told the horror stories that 'could' happen but you have to carry on. I am in good shape and a lot fitter than most of the people around me due to all the exercise and activities I do. Redmoose... sounds like you are doing great and crack on with your job fine. like yourself I feel hypo's coming on well in advance, which is very handy. I shall look into the attachments you have sent too. Thanks for your input everyone. Take care.
  4. No problem TC hope all goes well and there aren't any more hypo's during the night Thanks Colwoodlandcare for the reply. I think that's a good idea starting the day with slightly higher results. I try to get them nice and low and after 20mins of work I having to eat something sweet. tut. It's great to hear from you and yeah boiled sweets or something is a great idea! Thanks a lot.
  5. Yes climbing does reduce sugar levels as you use up a massive amount on energy/glucose/sugar. What I do when I go climbing is reduce the basil by 2-3 units a day or two before climbing. That should help with hypo's in the night. I do my basil injection inn the morning but I know people do theirs in the evening?!?! Also whilst climbing or doing a similar activity, it helps me to drink fruit juice (cheap tesco own) as they are full of sugar. Then afterwards have a meal has plenty of carbohydrates. Yes I am able to reduce the dose of rapid insulin before my meal as well, usually by 2 units or so. Now then this is only what I do so feel free to try it, however everybody is different and there may be some people coming back with comments saying you should do this or that. Hope this will be of some benefit to your daughter and It's great to hear that there are people out there carrying on with their lives. Thanks.
  6. Good to here some replies. Just to clear things up a bit though. I have had type 1 diabetes for 12 years and I am a very active person: rock climbing, mountain walkin, biking etc so I know how to control my own diabetes. I just wanted to hear some feedback from people who have got either type 1 or 2 to see how they go about it through work. It doesn't stop me from doing anything I want and I think that is the case for most diabetics. DVLA are aware and my car insurance is no more than "normal" however I am yet to look into public liability etc as of yet so that is a good idea. Any more feedback would be great. Cheers guys & girls.
  7. Hi everyone. Bit of a random question I know but was just wondering if there are tree surgeons out there who have diabetes and if so how they find working with it. I have type 1 and Im just trying to start out doing tree work. I have done a bit of work for a local tree surgeon who also has diabetes and other than making sure you eat lots we seem to plod along fine. Do anyone have any issues with theirs or any tips etc. Cheers
  8. Cheers for the tips. I shall do my homework reading the booklets and fingers crossed for assessment . Shame that its snowing here pretty bad 2 days before my course. Oh well it will add to the fun.
  9. Just to add to this thread. I have to say that my recent experience with Abby Pro was shockingly poor customer service and I will never order from them again. I wont explain the inns and outs but basically my order took ages to arrive, when it finally arrived they sent the wrong size, after weeks of phone calls and emails that didn't get replied to I have only just received my money back today 7th December having ordered my item on 5th Nov. very poor service and I was not happy.
  10. Well done on passing. Im doing my CS30-31 course next week. How was it? any tips? As for work I have sent letters to local tree surgeons asking for any work and also saying that I will volunteer to get experience. Mite be worth a shot.
  11. Get a Defender. I had a 1984 landrover 90 that had 178000 on the clock and it ran without trouble. As mentioned poor heaters and few bad bits people go on and on about but they are practical, easy to modify and will go anywhere. Sold mine last year and now I totally regret it. Good luck.
  12. Thanks for the reply. I do drive however Sheffield is a bit further than I was hoping to travel as a volunteer (due to fuel costs etc). If you send me a postcode of roughly you will be working then I can gauge distance/time. Alternatively you could call or text 07707100742. Thanks a lot.
  13. Hi all. I am looking to get some more work experience on the job (groundsman etc) nr Buxton I am 22 and having a career change. I have all my own PPE + saw and I am doing my CS30 & CS31 course in 3 weeks time. If anyone out there feels that they would be willing to pass on their experience in exchange for some free hard work then please drop me a message. Thanks a lot. Shane.
