  1. Hi cam belt in france The cambelt broke near Arras ford ranger (56 plate does not damage engine) tow off 350-00p euros 70-00p euros taxi 500-00p euros for cam belt + fitting two nights 200-00 euros. The French seem not to have any basic knowledge of engine timing. I removed covers to check belt us. Went to pickup the car the greetings was KAPUT my answer B-------KS Made me remove car from premises to car park they went for their three hour lunch. Checked the timing the prat had not timed the crank to the cams one hour later and a coffe later I had the car running. Had to wait for the garage to re-open just had to gloat!!. Run nice ever since. OH! My past life was a hgv mechanic (38 years). Get a freind in the car game to go over and do the job. cheaper to buy ferry or tunnel tickets ad the parts here in UK:confused1:
  2. Hi Thanks to Arbtalk and all the prize sponsers and all the guys give yourselfs a good pat on the back for raising such a fantastic amount!!!
  3. Look on LANTRA & NTPC site there will be several around North and West Yorks
  4. Try Tree Surgen (advert at side) the chipper will be priced simlar to a equivelent price of a vehicle
  5. Have you done your windblow assesment!? for me this type of job is the most dangerous. So the price has to reflect this, heard a story from the Baltics a guy went out to do multi windblown they found him eventually under some trees that had slipped when he made the wrong cut. He had been totally crushed! Aslo check your insurance and HSE guidelines.
  6. Try for a grant biomass seems to be the buzz word these days
  7. Mr Clutch! fitted mine find dealer on internet, quoted 350 But I will bet that the FLYWHEELS GONE! £850 NOT 250! Try some 4x4 breakers yards I got another box fitted for £700.
  8. The lever on mine goes forward it allowing the engine plate to drop thus tightening the drive belts
  9. I HAVE 20 METRES use with bull rope no problems
  10. Why is it that when you mention pollard all tpo officers do a whoppsie and claim that the regrowth is un-safe. I find pollarding looks better and comparing the re-growth to topping or reduction is actually less. Again if anyone is able to drive through france belgium netherlands at this time of year through to spring pollarding is the thing that is done. The more you pollard the faster the re-growth. The cycle of pollarding is the same as coppice from three to seven years depending on what you want to use the wood for.
  11. Take a look at some old masters' paintings some showing a river bank. In winter the willow will look like a lollipop. If you require any willow coppice you have a source, not enough done these days.
  12. Hi you are not on your own, to pollard is the best way to save trees. if you ever drive through Northern FRANCE up to the Netherlands in autumn through to spring this is the only way they mange suburban trees. The ancient have always done it, let's face it is only high coppice. If it is done at the right time of year and then rotated every 3-5 -7 years the tree is healthy and a lot safer and the punter has a supply of fire wood.
  13. A lately I have been to a few jobs and seen some of this stub left the last job this last week was a dismantle the guy said he had PRUNED the tree himself a few year ago I wish I had taken some pictures. when logging up you could see the die-back into the tree. Why has the industry gone to this arty-farty pruning. why not look back and see what the oldies did? A lot more pollarding and nice clean cuts. OK I can see why some young go getter wants to make the tree look natural then why not take a JCB AND RIP THE LIMBS OFF:thumbup1:
  14. Hey-up I have had several discussions on this issue of legality. I have been on the parliamentary station office web site where all the white and green papers are published THERE IS NOTHING??? I then rang the people who did back up the fact there is NO specific laws for the use of chainsaws only the Health and safety exe. Are the people who make money out of us going to kill the goose. Take car insurance heard up near Tyne-side one poor kid was quoted £9000-00p pound for his first premium!!!! Why? because that other young drivers did not get insured?????? I think someone up there has got something wrong!! Has for the five year rule this came from councils who rightly I believe made workers who did not regularly use a chainsaw take a refresher course paid for by the council. Look we all know that most Trainers do not self assess every day for they are not doing the job, are you not told to asses your-self then why are the SO CALLED EXPERTS try to force something on to the industry that is only a what they think is a money spinner. ANYWAY WHO TRAINS THE TRAINERS???????????????????????????
  15. Has A pro Hedge-layer you can cut the thorne back to coppice, pollard or do what a lot of landowners do is cope it to fence height. Please do not forget that hawthorns are classified as small to medium trees, they are not shrubs. If you see thorne with multi stems then this has been cut or layed at an earlier date

    Walnut

Just north east of Doncaster this area seems to have all the Walnuts. Anyway two Walnuts in South Yorks in vast amount. Had a word with TPO man. He is going to look at it He says they have had a couple of Walnuts suddenly die. The customer would like to keep it but is now a little afraid of the tree falling on the house. She would plant a mature specimen in its place. PS. there is no TPO on the tree the area is a conservation area!!!

  18. NHLS - Home page RULES NOT LAW. LAND OWNERS WHO ARE IN THE SCHEME, HEDGE LAYING UP TO 30th APRIL CAN FINISH IF STARTED! HEDGE SURVEY EVERY MORNING IF A NEST IS FOUND (NEW) YOU MUST STOP. If your customer is not in the scheme then they are ok. The hedge does recover, please don't forget that suburban hedges are trimmed and cut hard back ANY TIME OF YEAR. I have found that a few CONSERVATIONIST forget to turn the page in the rule book

    Walnut

HEY-UP Everyone. Had to go to a good customer this weekend her walnut tree had started to worry her, quote 'the bottom branch seemed a little low'. When I arrived and saw it the branch had a crack in it about about a third of the way from the trunk. I went back Sunday to remove the branch. Having removed the said object and logging it there was no weight to it. From the trunk the centre was dark brown when cutting the stub off the tree it was soft abut halfway through. Having had little to do with walnuts although the area where this was has a vast amount of these. Can any one cast a light on the problem.
  20. Sign of the times! Council jobs are great but you have to know the person. Under these hard times the tree officer might have left or pushed you then get a none arb / tree person left in charge they then go for the glory of KEEPING DOWN THE COSTS! Contact the man and offer to grind the stumps direct make him your friend!!!!
  21. Great nice to see some clear / precise instructions. Could you add the running bowline, surprised to see when working with some lads alot really cannot or have been not shown
  22. woodbines £00-25p old money great smoke
  23. hot air gun releases the bearing on the crankshaft; they are a press fit or tec speak tolerance fit
