  1. i must admit it is a good little chipper , first chipper i have ver used where the flr wheel is driven hydraulicly (do excuse the poor spelling)
  2. however if you base both examples in todays values then a team of ten men turn up to work and earn you 10k a week in exchange for a fair wage then everyone is happy , its a bit like pricing work , we would all get pretty peved if everyone decided to use " pikies" and not you because they are cheeper than you , do the same sort of job and often offer more than just tree surgery . On the other hand i do see what you mean i got fed up using a small chiper and not being abe to carry enough chip so i bought a mog . So how do you reach a happy medium ???
  3. i have just got rid of a guy that was willing to spend any amount of time sat in a cab pulling levers but as soon as it came to a job with a long drag to the chipper he would spend his time stood at the chipper waiting for someone to bring him some brash to chip , if he was then asked to drag he would turn a funny colour - almost purple to the point i thought he would collapse - quite simpy he was work shy and only keen on the macine based work !! and he wonderd how he got so out of breath and turned a funny colour
  4. i was chatting to a customer of mine who is a farmer , he is in his late 60's now but he was explaining that back in the 60-70's farmers bought a bit of kit and once they had used it on their farm they would then go to other farms who did not have the same piece of kit , this meant that ll the lacal farmers got the use of many bits of kit but only had the expense of the bits of kit belonging to them , he went on to say that these days most farms have betwene 100 - 1 million punds worth of kit which is sat doing nothing - so what was so wrong with doing that ? or what is wrong with the farming community that they cant do it now ??? and possibly the same in tree surgery , if tommer or dangerous bri had a job on that requires my mog and 9 inch chipper then i would go and help them out and in return im sure they would help me out . or is this an idealist outlook ??
  5. Right i have an ART rope guide but not Sirus multisaver , so i think i will have to get one and see what its like , i guess it would be ideal for smaller jobs etc . personally i highly rate the Art saver tho
  6. had/does anyone use the timber cranes that fit onto a 3 point linkage ? it seems like a good idea but having not used one i dont know how it compares to truck mounted cranes or trailer mounted craines
  7. its going really well thanks huck , had some teathing trouble at first and probably could have saved all that had i gone to AC Price but hey thats all experience and you learn from it , i have a few bits and pieces to do to it but im really pleased with what it can do and how much work it has saved , its firs job was in a cemetery where we had a row of 6 large pines to take out , the speed that we could large amounts of brash made it great and to top it off we shifted all the timber with it in no time , i have now binned the tp chipper and hope will be picking up the kwick chip from yourshire in just over a week which should be great , then i guess i will be looking for a timber trailer and crane . At first i could not understand why the get bigged up so much but now having owned one and used it i can see why , im now actually looking forward to the winter time where we get alot of faults for westen power in which we cant normally get accross floded fields etc in a ranger and towing a chipper .
  8. did you not mean to say that we now have norrow access chippers and that they are a waist of time :sneaky2:lmao
  9. tom dont listen to his mindles exscuses , bri decided that because he could not get spiners for that size of tyre then he would paint the rims with my stihl marking paint , to top things off he wants to do the same to his tractor when he gets it so that it blends in with the rest of his rig . on a serious note i will text in the morning mate .
  10. propper job , what time is good for you ?
  11. that sounds like a plan tommer , you busy tomorrow ?? lol
  12. bri with those pink rims she could never be put in the same category as the 190 , and just think this time next week you will be towing her with your very own leyland !!!
  13. yeah thats what she is going to get huck , the previous person did not do much of a job at weliding them up .
  14. trust me brian we will keep her going , yeah i saw the 190 , makes you think doesnt it , what amazed me is that the finns are casted as part of the fly wheel , makes you wonder what was wrong with the casting of it
  15. NEVER !!!! by the time you turn up on monday you will not know that anything is wrong with it (other than its not orrange) how was your curry ??
  16. on the flip side of that steve i recently looked at a tree that an LA contractor or possibly the LA in house team had done and thought how well they had cleaned up in the midst of tking doen a large lime - in fact i was wrong and infact the tree was being retained - its since been looked at and felled !! i too was guilty of making a decision on what was going on when i did not have the full facts in front of me , fair enogh the tree was in a shocking state but at the end of the day who am i to say what is what . I am glad the tree came down in the end though
  17. Lmao , never good mate, hope you make some progress with it
  18. right , i need to buy another truck - Roughly 2k plus VAT they were ofering me either 2k inc vat or £1400 and the truck , neither offers were going to result in me getting another truck equivelant to what i had , this is taking into acount its age, milage, and the condition of the truck . when buying the truck i had to pay VAT as it is classed as a commercial . now i get a truck and 2k , minus 600-700 = 1300-1400 , i then sell the truck as an accident dammaged truck repaired and cat d registered i will most likely get 1000 for it, that equates to ending up with about 2300-2400 so basically in a round the houses way equates to 2k pluss vat , thus meaning im not out of pocket as i could not claim thevat when i bought the truck.
  19. if your suing a single line sysyem (which i would prefer ) i would be inclined to back the system up with a seprat line and a shunt , to run over the sharp edge at the top of the wall i woust highly reccomend a "Track" these can be bought from Petzel . we used to use a similar set up for I.R.A.T.A . The problem with using pipe or any thing similar is that although it protect from abraision but does not protect from the accute angle that the rope will be in whilst weight loaded . if your unsure of the set up or system go onto the petzel web site and im pretty sure they show you various applications in which their gear can be used . failing that give me a shout .
  20. So really what your saying is that its not right for me to spend 600-700 quid and then sell it to recover my costs to then buy another truck ? and that having a hire truck to carry on working for while the insurance company decides what to do with it ? personally the problem was A -the fool that went into me and B- his insurance company for dragging their heels over it for 5 months if they want to do that its up to them. im still going to be out of pocket as im vat registered which means i will lose 17.5% of what ever they pay me . i agree that its shocking how costly it can be in situations like this but im sure if it was you that had been in an accident in your work truck then you would jump at the oppertunity to have another vehicle for as long as your without yours so that you can still keep working . Further to this i have agreed not to claim for any unasured losses which would have added considerably to the final cost to the insurer .
  21. after having the carbs changed my saws are still 357's are running really well .
  22. i think the worst part of it is that currently there is no way of LA's taking action against poor standard work unless the tree is protected in any way , i had a guy come and work for me that would only climb using spikes - hence he did not climb much at all as the only trees i would let him climb were take downs and he was pretty shocking at them !!
  23. speak to your local highways department ,you will be required to give a minimum of 4 weeks notice , you should have an approved diversion route, a sinage plan for the route . you must have advance closure warning signs up for a minimum of 7 days prior to the road being closed . your highways department can help you with this BUT it will have a ost attached to it , this varties from betwene £150.00-£400 depending on how much of it you can do your self , i tend to do all of it my self and only liase with highways and the cost is kept to a minimum BUT you have to have the cerst to be able to do this . If you need any more info feel free to pm me
  24. Yes there is a good reason why premiums are so high , its down to drink/drug drivers , un insured drivers...... and the list goes on , why should i make a loss because of an accident that was not my fault ?? and do you not think that getting the body work done and selling it so that i can get another replacment vehicle is fair ? or should i sit back and make a loss ?
  25. hiya bob yeah i could do with a spareset of blades mate , how much do you want for them ?
