  1. verry posh tom , i trust the customer will now pay a rather higher premium to have you with your shiney sides working in gardens ! do they make the landy go any faster or is that why your pollishing them with wire wool to get the wind resistance down ?? on a serious note its loking much better mate , where did you get the aly too ?
  2. less of the old you cheeky git , any way im sure you will educate me in how consume near fatal amounts of stella and penuts lmao , you still looking forward to caming then bri ?
  3. thanks Ady , on the plus side i am off to the APF to spent a whole weekend with tree folk !!
  4. whats the matter! do they wanna see what next door are up to ? lmao
  5. Personally i fell that many Tree Surgeons are full of their own self importance, with a view that the only way to manage trees are the methouds outlined by fellow Arborists and Arboricultural pioneers , but in all honesty us Tree Surgeons/ Arborists have only really been arround for the last 35-40 years in this country that im aware of . Previously trees were managed by farmers and landowners woodmen in whch there were far more trees being planted than there were being felled , i believe this is down to the fact that trees were only then taken down if they were in a dangerous condition , dieing or dead , nowadays it is felt to be acceptable to take trees down for any number of reasons such as - it is blocking my Sky signal , it sheds to many leaves , i like the tree but not where it is , it is blocking the light out of my spare room , i wish to build an extension or plain and simply because i dont like it ! , and its us that are wiling in most cases to carry out the work to fulfill our own finacial need . As Ted Green once said to me - Humans need Trees but trees do not need humans ! .
  6. yeah im sure your local stihl dealer will be able to help you , i dont have the model no and make to hane but im sure someone on here will be able to help
  7. sounds like a carb problem , saws do not tend to go that far out of tune overnight no matter how bumpy the ride home was the day before , however are you using new fuel , or using someone elts fuel? , im sure you have but have you checked the air filter and fuel filter ? also you may well have a minute hole in the fuel pipe which is letting to much air in , if you have tried all of them then i would be almost sure that it was a carb fault , you will need to get the make and model of the carb which is clearly stamped on the side of the car (PITA to get to mind) give stihl techniquical a ring and give them the make and model number of the carb , they will soon let you know if its the duff carb that they seem to have carried on fitting in the ms200 even though they know its a wrongun , oh and unlike Husky you will have to pay for a replacement. hope this is of use to you
  8. i had the sales woman and a bloke come out to see me , i thought i would get the usuall sales patter - hits per month , can you handle the amount of work the book will create etc etc , but what really got my attention was when they showed me a package where they will build a web site for free , put an add in the book , allow me several title serches on the net and several other bits , i wanted to know who will own the site etc etc and it turns out that it would benifit me alot so i have gone with it . last time i advertised in the book i did really well
  9. i have fewer than five staff but we still carry out a site specific RA on all jobs and where needed a method statment , we also have a full H&S policy with accompanying COSH assessments and all SOP's/ Method statements , the law may say that if you have less than five employes then you do not have to fill out a written site RA but you must carry out a verbal site RA , but it all honesty if a customer asks for a H&S policy then i would be inclined to provide one Regardles
  10. im currently using a Lock Jack with ART Rope guide with Poison ivy rope - minly used on bigger work with lots of branch walking and moving round within the crown , for smaller work and line work im using a Distel using Ocean pollyester on a Marlow Chamelion rope and where needed either the Art friction saver or a standard cambium saver , oh and both setups are used with a 5 meter adjustable strop . i tried the vt several times but i really really can not get on with it at all
  11. great job Reg .how do you find the husky 338 ?? what size crane were you using ?
  12. no its not dont be silly - its growing out of a cliff
  13. how about trying a polly tunnel ? just an idea tho
  14. in an ideal world yes , how many people get asked to leave a stick so tht the client can grow a creeper up it ? many tree surgeons would ask who the hell carried out such a sever pollard or "lop" to put it slightly better . i have often been carrying out line clearence work for westernt power whereby the permission for states quite clearly that the customer will only allow 1meter to be taken off - i have explained to the customer when turning up to do the job that this is not good practice and explained that if we were allowed to take everythin back to a suitable pruning point or termination point that it would be far better for the trees and would look far better too - it only led to alot of grief from western power and the owner of the trees - as the owner said to me - who the hell gives you the right to tell me what i want or that what i want is not corect now get off of my property . i totally agree that shoddy work should not be carried out by professionalls but not everything is as simple as black and white.
  15. does not look overly great but i guess it depends on what the customer asked to be done and what he was paying for .
  16. oh right , thats a cood point Huck , baybe it will be solid at the dottom with some barn doors at the top . maybe i will make a sliding roof that only covers half ot the box that way i can put it to the back when chipping from the front or other way round if chipping from the rear .
  17. really its just to blow chip into and thought it may be an idea to have rear doors just in case , i have cut a hole in the back of mine to blow chip into but it does not lok too good lol , i thought 2 sets of barn doors on the back wilt a ladder on on side of the doors so that we cam get onto the roof to get the ladders off of the rack that i wanna make . One other question huck is what do you do for roofs on your mogs chip box ?
  18. i take it you have a rabit in your bed side drawer too
  19. yes dean in dead , i think your costings are on the cheep side , the point you miss is that you have to understand just how much more you can earn with a mog in comparison to a landy or transit , as for there being much more to servicing a mog than changing the oil and filters i would be inclined to say that that was quite obvious, i took plenty of time looking into the pro's and con's of having a mog, landy or transit and the mog came out on top - that is after discussing a the maintainence side of things with western powers fleet maintainence department .
  20. thansk stu , im thinking of putting 2 sets of barn doors on the back so that i can chip in from the back or shut the top doors and chip in from the front , im also not sure on the roof whether or not to put a full length solid roof on or ???
  21. sorry Dean i think your statment that mogs are expensive to maintain is not strickly true , it you keep on top of maintaining your mog then the costs are not as bad as you may think , a landrover can be expensive to keep on the road if you do not maintain it . like most things if you can afford to buy a decent landrover or mog then you should be able to maintain one . Take for instance when i dought my mog , i had a problem with the air compressor caused by the previous owner , i replaced the compressor and replaced the parts that initially caused the aircompressor to break down .
  22. hiya guys im looking for some ideas/ advice and possibly some pics of the back doors on the chip box of your mog , my chip box has a solid back to it and i need to change it . cheers for all hepl in advane guys Dave.
  23. hmmm i dont think i would ever get to the house , i could just see me and the two dogs living in the welfair unit only coming to the back door at dinner time , especialy after my 8 month old springer decided to go hunting in my fields and bring in a baby rabbit for him and his big brother to play with last night:thumbup: the mrs was not to happy , mind you neither am i because now we let them out and thats it they are either in the field trying to find where i slund the rabbit of trying to catch another one
  24. the mrs tried to put a stop to me coming into the new hous in my work gear but i soon put a stop to that !! NOT now im allowed as far as the kitchen before im told to go out shake of the saw dust and change in the utility room , recently she was away working and came home to sawdust in every room and sawdust all over the new sofa . I soon had a lesson in what its like to hoover the whole house !!! by my choice im now back to changing in the utility room , i regulerly get funny looks from the outlaws if they are over and i walk through the house in my undercrackers lol
  25. I think that the problem is trying to get a truck that is god off road, has a good carrying capacity, does not have the turning circle of a 130 , does not depreciate etc etc you end up looking at either a mog or the new iveco , i went down the mog route and have not looked back but thats me and not everyone wants a mog . its certainly a tough one to deide on , im pretty cure western power are using 4x4 merc's of VW's in some areas , maybe they are worth looking into
