  1. no its not dont be silly - its growing out of a cliff
  2. how about trying a polly tunnel ? just an idea tho
  3. in an ideal world yes , how many people get asked to leave a stick so tht the client can grow a creeper up it ? many tree surgeons would ask who the hell carried out such a sever pollard or "lop" to put it slightly better . i have often been carrying out line clearence work for westernt power whereby the permission for states quite clearly that the customer will only allow 1meter to be taken off - i have explained to the customer when turning up to do the job that this is not good practice and explained that if we were allowed to take everythin back to a suitable pruning point or termination point that it would be far better for the trees and would look far better too - it only led to alot of grief from western power and the owner of the trees - as the owner said to me - who the hell gives you the right to tell me what i want or that what i want is not corect now get off of my property . i totally agree that shoddy work should not be carried out by professionalls but not everything is as simple as black and white.
  4. does not look overly great but i guess it depends on what the customer asked to be done and what he was paying for .
  5. oh right , thats a cood point Huck , baybe it will be solid at the dottom with some barn doors at the top . maybe i will make a sliding roof that only covers half ot the box that way i can put it to the back when chipping from the front or other way round if chipping from the rear .
  6. really its just to blow chip into and thought it may be an idea to have rear doors just in case , i have cut a hole in the back of mine to blow chip into but it does not lok too good lol , i thought 2 sets of barn doors on the back wilt a ladder on on side of the doors so that we cam get onto the roof to get the ladders off of the rack that i wanna make . One other question huck is what do you do for roofs on your mogs chip box ?
  7. i take it you have a rabit in your bed side drawer too
  8. yes dean in dead , i think your costings are on the cheep side , the point you miss is that you have to understand just how much more you can earn with a mog in comparison to a landy or transit , as for there being much more to servicing a mog than changing the oil and filters i would be inclined to say that that was quite obvious, i took plenty of time looking into the pro's and con's of having a mog, landy or transit and the mog came out on top - that is after discussing a the maintainence side of things with western powers fleet maintainence department .
  9. thansk stu , im thinking of putting 2 sets of barn doors on the back so that i can chip in from the back or shut the top doors and chip in from the front , im also not sure on the roof whether or not to put a full length solid roof on or ???
  10. sorry Dean i think your statment that mogs are expensive to maintain is not strickly true , it you keep on top of maintaining your mog then the costs are not as bad as you may think , a landrover can be expensive to keep on the road if you do not maintain it . like most things if you can afford to buy a decent landrover or mog then you should be able to maintain one . Take for instance when i dought my mog , i had a problem with the air compressor caused by the previous owner , i replaced the compressor and replaced the parts that initially caused the aircompressor to break down .
  11. hiya guys im looking for some ideas/ advice and possibly some pics of the back doors on the chip box of your mog , my chip box has a solid back to it and i need to change it . cheers for all hepl in advane guys Dave.
  12. hmmm i dont think i would ever get to the house , i could just see me and the two dogs living in the welfair unit only coming to the back door at dinner time , especialy after my 8 month old springer decided to go hunting in my fields and bring in a baby rabbit for him and his big brother to play with last night:thumbup: the mrs was not to happy , mind you neither am i because now we let them out and thats it they are either in the field trying to find where i slund the rabbit of trying to catch another one
  13. the mrs tried to put a stop to me coming into the new hous in my work gear but i soon put a stop to that !! NOT now im allowed as far as the kitchen before im told to go out shake of the saw dust and change in the utility room , recently she was away working and came home to sawdust in every room and sawdust all over the new sofa . I soon had a lesson in what its like to hoover the whole house !!! by my choice im now back to changing in the utility room , i regulerly get funny looks from the outlaws if they are over and i walk through the house in my undercrackers lol
  14. I think that the problem is trying to get a truck that is god off road, has a good carrying capacity, does not have the turning circle of a 130 , does not depreciate etc etc you end up looking at either a mog or the new iveco , i went down the mog route and have not looked back but thats me and not everyone wants a mog . its certainly a tough one to deide on , im pretty cure western power are using 4x4 merc's of VW's in some areas , maybe they are worth looking into
  15. i must admit it is a good little chipper , first chipper i have ver used where the flr wheel is driven hydraulicly (do excuse the poor spelling)
  16. however if you base both examples in todays values then a team of ten men turn up to work and earn you 10k a week in exchange for a fair wage then everyone is happy , its a bit like pricing work , we would all get pretty peved if everyone decided to use " pikies" and not you because they are cheeper than you , do the same sort of job and often offer more than just tree surgery . On the other hand i do see what you mean i got fed up using a small chiper and not being abe to carry enough chip so i bought a mog . So how do you reach a happy medium ???
  17. i have just got rid of a guy that was willing to spend any amount of time sat in a cab pulling levers but as soon as it came to a job with a long drag to the chipper he would spend his time stood at the chipper waiting for someone to bring him some brash to chip , if he was then asked to drag he would turn a funny colour - almost purple to the point i thought he would collapse - quite simpy he was work shy and only keen on the macine based work !! and he wonderd how he got so out of breath and turned a funny colour
  18. i was chatting to a customer of mine who is a farmer , he is in his late 60's now but he was explaining that back in the 60-70's farmers bought a bit of kit and once they had used it on their farm they would then go to other farms who did not have the same piece of kit , this meant that ll the lacal farmers got the use of many bits of kit but only had the expense of the bits of kit belonging to them , he went on to say that these days most farms have betwene 100 - 1 million punds worth of kit which is sat doing nothing - so what was so wrong with doing that ? or what is wrong with the farming community that they cant do it now ??? and possibly the same in tree surgery , if tommer or dangerous bri had a job on that requires my mog and 9 inch chipper then i would go and help them out and in return im sure they would help me out . or is this an idealist outlook ??
  19. Right i have an ART rope guide but not Sirus multisaver , so i think i will have to get one and see what its like , i guess it would be ideal for smaller jobs etc . personally i highly rate the Art saver tho
  20. had/does anyone use the timber cranes that fit onto a 3 point linkage ? it seems like a good idea but having not used one i dont know how it compares to truck mounted cranes or trailer mounted craines
  21. its going really well thanks huck , had some teathing trouble at first and probably could have saved all that had i gone to AC Price but hey thats all experience and you learn from it , i have a few bits and pieces to do to it but im really pleased with what it can do and how much work it has saved , its firs job was in a cemetery where we had a row of 6 large pines to take out , the speed that we could large amounts of brash made it great and to top it off we shifted all the timber with it in no time , i have now binned the tp chipper and hope will be picking up the kwick chip from yourshire in just over a week which should be great , then i guess i will be looking for a timber trailer and crane . At first i could not understand why the get bigged up so much but now having owned one and used it i can see why , im now actually looking forward to the winter time where we get alot of faults for westen power in which we cant normally get accross floded fields etc in a ranger and towing a chipper .
  22. did you not mean to say that we now have norrow access chippers and that they are a waist of time :sneaky2:lmao
  23. tom dont listen to his mindles exscuses , bri decided that because he could not get spiners for that size of tyre then he would paint the rims with my stihl marking paint , to top things off he wants to do the same to his tractor when he gets it so that it blends in with the rest of his rig . on a serious note i will text in the morning mate .
  24. propper job , what time is good for you ?
  25. that sounds like a plan tommer , you busy tomorrow ?? lol
