  1. But you will take their money either way I suppose? I dont really see the problem here to be honest.. you got paid to drop a tree that somebody had vandalised because they werent allowed to have it dropped..... both led to the same outcome and you got a days pay for it.. If you have that much of an objection why did you do the work?
  2. Exactly.
  3. He went to all that effort to remove the bark....would have been easier for him to fell the bloody thing and have done with it. The council won't waste any time on it if all the residents agree that the view is better without it.
  4. Thats the government for you... absolutley full o'shite!
  5. Phenom.... if you have a 3-way autolock condemned because the gate is sticky or slightly mis-shapen you are perfectly within your rights to use them for tool strop krabs and your tool strop krabs can be anything you like, screwgate or snap shut o whatever you want to use.. It's only P.P.E that should be 3-way autolock minimum
  6. That's true alright Stevie...... fire is free afterall.
  7. Reading this post with some interest.. I am waiting to hear back about a job where we will have to completley remove the stumps and the only cost effective way if doing it that I have been able to find is either: Excavator and then tub grinder - (very expensive!!) or tracked stump grinder which is still expensive, but works out a good bit cheaper than the tub grinder, but..... horses for courses, our job is on the side and top of a short bank about 7m wide and 400m long so I need mobility as access will be tight on the site boundary but if you're effectivley doing a clear fell then I would get an excavator in to lift all the stumps and pile them all up together and the organise a crane fed tub grinder to come in and get the whole lot.
  8. sweet..... did you get it all finished in one day because of the road closure?? Worthwhile if so!
  9. About time me thinks!
  10. one against six would never give youa fair chance.... not unless you were bruce lee or someone like that.. See what you're saying though, the rest mist and that - fair play to you for having a go.. did they get awa with much? If the police dont take it seriousley or pull thier finger out you shuld whack a complaint in to the independent police complaints commission ! It's aboutt ime the long arm of the law got of thier arse and actually did something... too busy nicking people for talking on mobiles and doing 32 in a 30 limit with on the spot fines.
  11. top marks for creativity..
  12. invoicing.... quotations..... butt kissing letters......... been going at the paperwork since 9.30am Sunday.... but nearly cleared the list now, going to get another coffee, finish up and then try some shut eye - beat up surveys and some weevi spraying to sort out tomorrow 07.00 (yawning)
  13. Like a constitutional obligation!!
  14. Not sure.... most of the sculptures were making between £300-£400 but some were more some were less.. I was only there for half the auction and then had to run my brother back home so he could get to work. Tommy might remember how much it went for.. he was there also..
  15. Same here mate... Swap to using a distel and micro pulley or a VT set-up.... thats what im working on just now
  16. I'll happily impule buy a 660 or 880 if you've got one going... !!
  17. The carving of the lady with the swirled head was my favourite... I would have bought it at the show and had it by the house but the misses wouldnt let me bid on it at the auction!!
  18. That sounds like a plan Stevie! We could go up to some of those biiiiig scotties up at Glenmore. Hoping to have a god at this magical SRT myself soon... bt before any of that I want to get myself sorted with a slick friction hitch. The VT is good, and I know that it's what the top names are using and I know it is the way forward but the fact that you have to keep checking it and setting it scares me because like you say... running a squad, under pressure, concentrating on the job and so on... I'll keep trying different things though until I can settle on something I really like. I always use a traditional prussik hitch which I was told last week is relativley old-skool now!
  19. I climb on samson arbormaster rope...... absolutley love it.
  20. Dave, I have a ranger which is the same as the B2500..havent really had it long wnough to get any problems yet but what first springs to mind is the immobiliser... Modern diesels have an imobiliser on the fuel pump alot of the time and when it kicks in it's like running out of fuel... could be a sticky solenoid or something electrical. I would take it to a main dealer and get a diagnostic check which should flag up any problems.
  21. Alex - would it not be easier to use a rope grab?? Just wondering why you're using the set up on a flip line... do you use your flip line as a short strop also??
  22. I'm just trying to get my climbing set up as smooth as possible.... the less time messing around with a prussik and faffing with kit the better. I had a go at a VT set up and scared the crap out of myself.... you have to keep setting the knot and making sure it's working right which I dont want to have to do every minute i'm using it... either that or I set it up completley wrong.
  23. How do you find the icicle?? What's it like for coming back in walking along a branch etc?? What i'm trying to improve on is the scenario where i'm walking along a branch back into the trunk and I have to use two hands to take up the slack in my rope with a traditional prussik set-up, and that's why I want to introduce a micro pulley into the system so I can pull the knot up with one hand..
  24. That is absolutley spot on!! Exactly what I was looking for! Cheers coolie
  25. That is so true... It's a bit like a deer when you shoot it... you can get a perfect heart shot, and still they can run for 100m or more sometimes, completley on adrenaline.. It's most likley adrenaline that enables the human body to get itself out of trouble, down a tree etc... I know that the survival instinct in all mamals is bred into you, so it's a natural thing.
