  1. Are any of you coming to the Care Carrbridge chainsaw carving competition next weekend??
  2. Went to look at a job thisafternoon to take down a big Elm. The spec for the job is to completley dismantle the old girl and leave the timber on-site for the estate boys to tidy away, and all the brash to be chipped and left on-site also. I'm told the tree is about 200 years old, but you guys might have a different opinion. The main stem is approximatley 8.5ft x 8.5ft and she is approximatley 90ft tall. The tree is dying back and has several bracing cables in the crown which look to have been included in the stems, so it must have been braced several years back. Not sure if it is suffering with D.E.D or if age has got the better of her. I'm struggling to put a price on the job and decide how long it will take us... Any thoughts most welcome. Also, will it be worth cutting the burrs off throughout the job to sell for turning, or a waste of time? If we get the job I'm thinking of buying a helmet cam to record the job..
  3. Righto..... with you now.... i'll have a think about that one
  4. Not sure how the music chain is supposed to work, are the tracks meant to be linked in some way?? If not, heres a couple to chew over.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naAWX6OsHVI]YouTube - Lindsey Buckingham "Big Love" Live Acoustic Performance[/ame] And another.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daCzHvg23pc]YouTube - Fleetwood Mac - Landslide - Live 1976[/ame]
  5. Go on X Factor mate...... you must be better than the dodgy people they have on there for the auditions...
  6. That is awesome news!!! hasnt filtered through to us yet but here's hoping...
  7. I was thinking for use on really steep banks etc... does look a really good tool.. obviouskey not as good as some of the big grinders but it looks capable enough to get the job done.. Only problem is the cost... they are more expensive than I had bargained for where on earth do you go to buy Anfo?!?
  8. Have been looking into the Alpine Magnum Stump Grinders... Has anyone used one or had any experience with them? The look quite a capable machine and seem to produce good results... Seem quite expensive though [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cD9urOi4oJc]YouTube - ALPINE MAGNUM[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQs_LmVH5BU]YouTube - Working with Alpine Magnum Stump Grinder[/ame] Or maybe this is an easier way??: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHFEgrYlJB8]YouTube - 20 kg of anfo with Exploding stump[/ame]
  9. Thats what I was thinking also....
  10. Certainly does... i can see how it would be great for separating the firewood and the branches, but would the product be saleable with the mulched branches included? With those net bags it would be a great way to dry out the wood pre-stacked ready to sell or even to load into the truck.
  11. That looks a good machine.... very handy.. Do they make a bigger vesrion for larger stuff?
  12. That's just it though.... never hear from them again and so assume they must be getting on fine perhaps?
  13. There are plenty of guys working in Suffolk on this forum... hit somebody up for a favour and get it ground out when somebody is passing - then you can do them a favour of similar value to re-pay them and so good working relatioships are built...
  14. Just out of interest... how many students have said to you that they learn more at work than they do at college??? Or to put it another way, I've never heard anybody say they learnt more at college than they did whilst working and learning on-the-job. As for slagging off colleges, qualifications and assignments - go read some of the posts for yourself and find out why.
  15. Hand grenade??? Beaver??? Levitation??
  16. I have it on both sides at the moment, people chasing me for a bill and me chasing others for payment... You're right when you say its the money going out that sucks you dry..... it can be crippling because the boys need paid every week regardless.
  17. I'd agree with all of that - cash-flow is deffinatley king... so many times we've been completley buggered all because of cash flow.
  18. LOL - I see you have dealt with the FC before then!!!
  19. Sounds ominous!
  20. What is a papist rapist ????
  21. Seems like every day at least one person tries to ruin it!! But that's life..
  22. Similar sentiments here Stevie.... there is a wealth of knowledge and experience in the Arbtalk community, something very rare these days I would say.. I see myself as a worldwide abuse centre, my day is not complete without taking crap from somebody.... lol!
  23. Sometimes it's worth paying for good information..
  24. Trying to PM - no space in your inbox.. I think we should apply to steve for more than 100 allowance..
  25. Dean - they always say that they dont work on price and they take several factors into consideration... However.. I did a job last year for them and they made it very obvious that price was key even though it was not in writing if you know what I mean. They often have budgets which are quite strict.
