  1. Lost two jobs last year and three this year with the FC - all of them went to Tilhill. Tried another plan of attack by contracting to Tilhill as well..... they always say they have no work going?? So how come you've got all the jobs i'm going for too?!? hmm! B******s
  2. Just been looking through the constructionline website... seems a good scheme and probably worthwhile.... it all seems so easy on there, fill out a form..pay the money... but I take it the actual PQQ will be a nightmare to fill out?
  3. I've never paid for a PQQ before!! Holy moly! I take it their PQQ pack is to see if you qualify for constructionline?
  4. As an afterthought.... you could put terms in place such as a 10% credit surcharge which is added on-top but deductable if paid within 30 days...
  5. Curvey.... how about asking for 40% up front and the remaining 60% on completion?
  6. Amazing how well those county's hold their money...
  7. It's something we really need to look into as well Matt..... the Highland Council want their contractors to be constructionline registered... If you find out any more about it please let me know...
  8. Anyone else rate the Meindl Airstream?? I've had mine now for 14 months and they are as good as the day I bought them... the bright colour has faded a bit but the boots themselfs seem indestructable. Never had a pair of boots in daily use that have lasted this long...
  9. Nope, can't say I know him....never heard of him infact.. I was invited up with some other contractors, all of us contract to one of the sawmills up here, J. Gordon & Son. Hoping it will be re-arranged soon. There is another plant opening up or possibly open now at Invergordon which is supposed to be bigger than the Norbord plant!!
  10. Thankfully i've never forgotten the Treemotion!!
  11. i'll try and show you next time I see you stevie... I tried to commit it to memory when I was taught it but have never used it.. Seems to be handy for emergencies and even for temporary anchoring whilst adjusting rigging or main line.. if I get a chance this week i'll get a rope up in the shed and see if I can remember how to do it..
  12. I was invited to go for a guided tour at Norbord Dalcross a couple of months back but it was cancelled due to a rather big health and safety problem... I believe there was a nasty accident there or soemthing and it upset thier plans for a couple of weeks as they had an investigation.... I was gutted, really want to see their set up... I only live about 30 mins from Norbord and allot of the stuff we cut goes into there.
  13. Tonight has been like the youporn of chippers... lol
  14. Just looked that up on Google..... wow... 300 cu/hr !! All this begs the question.... what exactly is the largest wood chipper in the world?
  15. Ed - do you know anything about the Pezzolato chippers, or the Arboreater PTH 900??
  16. Never used any of the yankie chippers... Have used three different Jensens and I just think they're great..... but like you say, different league
  17. Just reading the stats on the CBI website..... I think i've just wet myself.... excuse me..
  18. Admittedly not for fuel or biomass, but have experience feeding a big big PTO Jensen.... we were feeding whole trees through it on night-shift rail work, sometimes taking 5 men to lift the tree and feed the chipper and I must say I was more than impressed with it..... the power was immense. Vermeer seem to show good chippers for tree work... most of them are tow-behind or drag chippers though which wouldn't be of much use to me.
  19. This looks a good chipper..... and expensive too! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcw0YX5zRIw]YouTube - CBI Magnum Force 6400 w/ 2-Pocket Chipper Rotor[/ame]
  20. OMFG!! I bet the hire on that sucker would be pretty steep. I dont know Davey, but I do know of him... Looks like i'll have to stick to the stump grinding in October..so far we're set to have a self propelled grinder and an operative working for the month - just waiting to find out how much the hire company are going to skin me for teeth etc.
  21. The vermeer chippers are awesome.. seen plenty of videos of them working and when I finally get around to buying a chipper i'll probably go for a vermeer or a jensen..
  22. Now this is a chipper.... And if you guys know of anybody with something similar then I have a possible job for one in October.... but ti would have to work out cheaper than stump grinding.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeehDcQgeA4]YouTube - CBI 6800P Grinding Stumps[/ame]
  23. the heizohack seems alot slower, less movable and bulkier? But looks like its more rugged, better on a commercial site i'd say
  24. I've never been able to grasp that whole thing about splintery chip into power stations.... they're only going to burn it anyway. Same up here with Norbord at Dalcross.. Had a load rejected from them last year as they said the logs we sent in were not sned clean enough.. Cutting 3m chipwood we never sned it as clean as say a 2.4 strainer log or a 3.7 sawlog but even the chipwood is alot cleaner than some of the crap i've seen the harvesters send in.
  25. You can use use the other end of your rope to make a prussik..... never had to do it but handy enough if your forget your prussik rope i guess
