  1. Yep, not denying that..
  2. How's things Chris... are you keeping busy?? Be good to catch up with you at some point.

  3. Know the feeling - we've got a baby on the way.. if there was one time when I want work to be going well it's now but thats not the way it's shaping out. I heard on the radio today that the recession is due to get slightly worse shortly and may then come back a bit...
  4. Ok, having let this sink in for a moment.... what a ****, cant believe I didnt pick that one up.. RTFM.... yes.... got you..ha ha ha
  5. eh??? Nope.... you've lost me..
  6. I have all the manuals for all my saws actually.... not as heathen like as you think!
  7. I can relate to that... I priced a job on thursday to dismantle three dead pops which are all right next to a main road in the middle of a small town very close to a primary school. Needs traffic control, chipper and 4 guys on site... I put in a quote of £650 + VAT for the day and was told today that I'll not be getting the job as one of the other guys quoting has put in a price of £250!! £250 for a days work for a full team, chipper, traffic, the works.... he's bloody welcome to it. I can not believe that somebdy would be prepared to work for that little... this has happened a couple of times now.
  8. I was tought that you do a chain brake test every day when you first start the saw.... as described above but then after that you never knock the brake on at full revs.
  9. Is that cut and split or just in lengths?? If it's just in lengths then OMG!!! :scared1:
  10. LOL - very good.. true too.
  11. Nice One! Happy Birthday ArbTalk!! well done Steve
  12. I usually replace the drums after about 4 chains.. The lad that blew his clutch drum up was whacking the brake on at absolute full revs, no wonder it couldnt take it. Mesterh - nope was never tought that and untill stevie mentioned it i'd never given it a thought.
  13. One of the guys blew up a two week old MS260 doing that only a few weeks back... snapped the brake band, the spring and cracked the clutch drum. Chainbrake goes on all the time, dont even think about it, but I never put it on at full revs.. Sounds nasty slipping down a bank like that Stevie - must have been a brown trousers moment..
  14. Last lot I bought in was £33 + VAT a ton delivered.. Have heard of a chap near us here paying £52 a ton delivered last winter which was for beech thinnings through the commission Like everything though, depends on what the stuff is, what quality it is and how desporate you are for it..
  15. My pet hate with the boys is hearing that all-too-common high revving saw and then BANG on the chainbrake... I always let the saw rev down first before putting the brake on..drives me mental. Never been tought anything about not standing directly in line with the chain...but does make alot of sense.
  16. The visor thing is a pain.... just hate working with a visor and always have done.. I do keep it down if i'm felling or when up a tree but always lift it for some reason when crosscutting or snedding, keep trying to break the habit but always lift the visor for some reason. The thumb thing, well yep that one is very common.... As for hanging over the saw, I take it you mean standing in line with the chain? Never heard of this one before or really thought about it but you have a good point about kickback etc..
  17. heres a lucky chap too... LiveLeak.com - Falling tree nearly hits man March 10/08,London.
  18. Jesus Christ!! What a lucky man... not seen that one before. regarding first video.. you would have thought they would have took those bug nuggs off before felling..
  19. The trainer on my first saw course did that to me every time I didnt have my visor down whilst snedding out or if I didnt have my thumb under the handle of the saw.....two bad habits I carry to this day..
  20. The one thing that really scares me is watching people feeding small logs or small sticks through the chipper where they have to reach right inside the hopper to get the rollers to purchase...
  21. Yep, whole heartedly agree with all of that... I'm not getting on at trainers or assessors, I'm simply saying the whole system is wrong, IMO. Like I said before, in an ideal world I would book a trainer and then book an assessor and that would be job done, but as things are there are 5 parties involved with the training and assessment side of a course which IMO is way too many. NPTC/LANTRA, Assessment Centre, Assessor, Training Provider, Trainer The reason the courses and assessments are expensive is because everyone above needs thier cut.
  22. They're in a whole world of thier own!!! hehehe
  23. I use meindl air-streams and I have to say, IMO they are the dogs danglies!
