  1. Not sure a county weighs, but would it not fit onto a low loader trailer pulled by a fast trac or similar?? The one in the eArborist classified looks good, 11k + VAT for the whole outfit.. Not sur ehow it would cope with the terrain up here but seems closer to the money than some of the kit i've seen in the last few weeks.
  2. looking good tim.... nice work!
  3. jojam - take me off your vebdeta list, nothing to do with me mate... that is truly truly crap work..... they should have taken it right down as opposed to leaving that!
  4. wow!! I have spoken to the boss (my misses) and she rekons that she cant postpone her pregnancy so unfortunatley I'll be unavailable but I hope everyone see's what a brilliant opportunity this is and I hope you get some class applicants.
  5. We all enjoyed watching you Tommy - shame the crowd was tight at the auction.
  6. I couldn't possibly comment!
  7. Euston is a 18000 acre estate near Honington, running through to Euston and out towards Thetford on the A1088... The estate used to be a little run down but in recent years has had a good revival - but as estates go they're not too bad IMO. Some of the estates up here are so tight... I wouldn't know where to start explaining!! Got your messgae David - I used to work in Suffolk before moving to Scotland, and am a Suffolk lad born and bred, but never did any estate forestry, I was more a keeper than forestry, but did do a stint at the EA FD and also for a local tree surgeon as a groundsman. You're right, dumfries is away way down south... you would love the forestry up here. Not so many hardwoods though.
  8. Great to meet you at Carrbridge Tommy - you truly are an artist mate!
  9. I know troston very very well! Used to drink in the pub there alot and had family that stayed near the gamekeeper a few years ago.
  10. Which Estate are you on Dave? I grew up on Euston Estate. Fakenham Magna, near Honington.
  11. Is he into shooting at all? That phrase is printed in the Shooting Times every week... I think it is a famous comment made by King Henry.... and of course, totally true.
  12. Congratulations mate.... we've one on the way too, due on the 15th December - Seems like we'll soon have a nw generation of Arbtalk members on the forum..
  13. They do seem to be a formidable tool.... Finding a half tidy one is not easy. Working on another angle now and looking at small crawlers with wide tracks..
  14. Well out of my price range !! Lovley bit of kit though.
  15. That Volvo has been listen on eBay at least 6 times that I can recall now - always at a 5k asking too... wonder whats wrong with it?? I bet it will take a fair bit of cash to bring it back up to standard... might be working but all the pipes will need replaced etc.
  16. There is one up here which is rough as buggery and the guy wants 15k for it!!!! unreal.... Was even thinking valmet but probably couldnt afford one - should have bargained hard with SWB before he sold his!!
  17. Anybody know of any for sale, prices etc? Just wondering how much I would need to budget for a county wth roofmount and forwarding trailer for a possible upcoming contract.... seems it will cost me alot to pay a local contractor to come in and do the extraction so I'm thinking I might as well buy one for myself.. Any thoughts?
  18. That's the same for all of us unfortunatley
  19. If you want to look at it in that way then yes.
  20. Regardless of self-employment or employee, it's a job you got to do that you otherwise wouldnt have had the chance to do so that's a bonus. I'm not having a go at you in any way at all, but I have learned in this job that sometimes you dont have the opportunity to let feeling, philosophies or morals get in the way... drop the tree, take the money/collect your pay packet. The guy who ring barked it actually did you a favour in a way (depending how you look at it) So, all in all.. another day at the office
  21. But you will take their money either way I suppose? I dont really see the problem here to be honest.. you got paid to drop a tree that somebody had vandalised because they werent allowed to have it dropped..... both led to the same outcome and you got a days pay for it.. If you have that much of an objection why did you do the work?
  22. Exactly.
  23. He went to all that effort to remove the bark....would have been easier for him to fell the bloody thing and have done with it. The council won't waste any time on it if all the residents agree that the view is better without it.
  24. Thats the government for you... absolutley full o'shite!
  25. Phenom.... if you have a 3-way autolock condemned because the gate is sticky or slightly mis-shapen you are perfectly within your rights to use them for tool strop krabs and your tool strop krabs can be anything you like, screwgate or snap shut o whatever you want to use.. It's only P.P.E that should be 3-way autolock minimum
