  1. I would be using nice slat sized sitka spruce... very light when dry, straight grained barr the odd knott, burns fast and hot - ideal for kindling
  2. We must be down to somewhere in the region of 4t taking out firewood and somewhere around 6t maybe in sawlogs..
  3. IMO you should look for some work felling for a skyline on the West Coat of Scotland, Argyll etc... Big trees, not all that far from home and amazing experience - you'll soon know if you like it or not!!
  4. I'm just wondering how much volume we can fit on the trailer and what weight that realistically equates to.. I have a Logbus 110D trailer and crane combo at the moment, which is supposedly a 10t trailer, but in normal thinnings, firewood thinnings etc I would rekon when she's full to the gunnels she's still only taking out roughly 4t at a time. I'll give Alex a shout this week and see what he's saying price wise..
  5. Has anyone had any experience with the Kronos Trailer sold by A C Price ?? I'm quite interested in the Kronos 160 driven trailer, Kronos They appear to be a much heavier construction than most forwarding trailer and look more suited to forestry work. Shall be contacting A C Price this week for pricing.. Any thoughts most welcome, Matt
  6. That thing looks dangerous!!!!
  7. I use Trust for ALL my insurance..... they offer the best service by far.
  8. Guys, the Add says to PM him with a CV!!
  9. Try Cameron at Trust insurance.... monthly payments, happy days!
  10. We're doing alright here for Autumn forgaging.. So far we've enjoyed some wild mushroom soup (chantrels) We enjoyed a few Grouse back in August allong with some blaeberry off the hill and then more recently we've had Brown Hare, Pheasant and some nice Mallard. Yesterday I bagged a nice roe buck which will adorn my freezer on Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully get some time go pick some Sloes for winter gin over the weekend!!
  11. Interesting... From looking at the photos, if access is ok and there's no major constraints I could actually drive down from the Highlands, do the work and drive back up for less than 2.5k!!
  12. That's awful news.... verry sorry to hear about that, what a waste of a life. Hope they catch the scum responsible.
  13. Try Cameron at Trust Insurance - 01604 492644 They insure my Mercedes MB Trac and I have to say, it was very very reasonable. Good luck!
  14. I live 10 mins north of Aviemore at Boat of Garten... they're forecasting that we will have a very long hard winter this year and it should be equal to or worse than last year...
  15. You'll be far to close to the coast for getting snowed in I'm afraid Melvyn... If you want to get snowed in you'll need to be in central speyside for a good chance!
  16. Here's wishing Dave a speedy recovery.. terrible news.
  17. Cheers Karl, I saw it come in... i'll try and give you a call this week!
  18. I'd give Cameron a ring at Trust Insurance - well worth a chat and a quote if nothing else. Cameron Yeo - 01604 492644
  19. Yep, you were warned...
  20. yawn...
  21. You wont need the chipper to fly that low... ask them to fly a bit higher so as to reduce the down-draft??
  22. Hey Karl.... any chance you could post some pics or drop me an e-mail [email protected] We're pretty interested in finding a debarker specifically for telegraph poles..
  23. Dadio... I put it to you that you are, infanct, an eejit. A spade is a spade in my book..
  24. I'd be getting her resistograph tested or even consider a tomograph.. I wouldnt have thought there was any particular rush to fell the tree, it won't fall over over-night, buta crown thin and deadwood followed by regular monitoring, perhaps every 6 months will soon give you an indication as to the extent of the decay and how it is affecting the tree... if after a few follow up inspections the condition seems to worsen or the decay is more prevalent, then perhaps look to fell and replant, monolith or similar.
  25. I'd recommend you give PDG a call.... we have priced some work with them recently for a job on a steep hillside. You'll be looking at quite a bit of money, approximatlet 7-10k per day I would expect. Give them a call, they're good guys!
