  1. I can recommend Chris White - Cut Above Tree Services, based near Linlithgow I think Jamie
  2. Brilliant, congratulations Steve! Happy birthday to Arbtalk !
  3. I have to agree with that... the competition side of things is not an issue for me either, however the sfaety issue raises an eyebrow!
  4. Better still, team up with a decent, qualified, reputable loacal arb contractor and save yourself a trip to A & E...
  5. Are you having a laugh?? Clearly you had better seek professional training before you do anything with you're harness!! I can not believe this is a serious question
  6. There's plenty of idiots on the road right enough... I always tend to put two banksmen out in the road either side of the tree being felled just incase anybody jumps the red lights, but there's still no accounting for idiots. Was the permit granted by the Highland Council?? It's supprising because they normaly specify that traffic control should not be set up before 9.30 and must be clear by 4.30 Aye cheers - we do get some nice jobs!!
  7. Glad you didn't hurt yourself, certainly a reminder of how careful you need to be. I do a considerable ammount of roadside tree works - you do not need to start at 5am in the morning to ''miss as much of the traffic as possible''. You're job on roadside works is to manage the traffic competently, using traffic control, lane closures, and correct signage etc. - there is no harm in disrupting the traffic for a day or even a few days if what you are achieving makes the road safer for all to use.
  8. we'll have to see what she's like.... I have a feeling she might struggle a bit in the softer ground but have been told that they actually do quite well in boggy sites, having said that... if we get her stuck, it will be pretty easy to winch her out!
  9. It's not gay..... It's Retro!
  10. I've got roughly 400t of birch thinnings to take out with her as soon as she arrives... Can't wait!!
  11. Well... I finally bit the bullet and thanks to a few friends along the way, we are expecting delivery of our new (to us) tractor based forwarding set up by Friday this week.. Many thanks to Stephen Blair for all his help and also to Jim Watt of Caledonian Forestry for all his ideas and help getting this project towards completion More photos of her working will be up as soon as she arrives!
  12. There's always work out there if you're willing and able.. dosent matter what industry. I've posted up positions available on several occasions on the employment forum here - can't remember you ever contacting me??? If you think CS39 is not worth having then I guess you have settled yourself as being a groundsman only... there's work for groundsmen all over the place. Get a road atlas, work out how many miles you can travel in one hour from home and draw a big circle around your house - phone everyone inside that circle, make a list of who you call, what thier number is and who you spoke to and what they said.. If that dosent work, draw another circle, this time an hour and a half from home.. again call everyone. If none of that works, take a job in Tescos to keep you going untill you find a local job with a firm - don't give up on it if it;s what you really want.
  13. Give Cameron a ring at Trust Insurance - 01604 492644 He should be able to help you out if you explain the situation to him.
  14. Easiest way to kill a pigeon is to cup it in your hands, and press both thumbs firmly in the middle of it's back, breaking it's spine. Hold firmly like this for 30 seconds or so and you will feel the inevitable nerves etc. Interestingly enough, birds often fein a broken wing to draw attention to themselfs from predators and away from thier partner, the nest, brood or similar... Grouse do it alot, as do Pheasants..
  15. Blimey.... bet they were legless by the time they got out Ther'll be some beerocracy following that re: tree safety...
  16. Handy bloke to have about!!
  17. That's not around the UK - that's around England!
  18. You're not the only big kid! I have one sitting on my mantlepiece!!!
  19. We're flat out over this way too! You're telling me with the weather... the boys have around 65Ha in total of spot spraying to do over by Banchory... the weather last week was bloody awful!! Have thought about putting all my own kit together for the tractor, but I don't currently have a workshop facility or welders etc so although I'm confident I could fabricate and weld up what I need, I don't have the facilities or the time. I'll be in the market for a set of mini levers or similar before long... but that may have to be a project for later on - at the moment I need to get wood to roadside sharpish.
  20. That's awesome!!! How many KG does he get per load??
  21. Cheers Jamie! Yep, I know Wilsons have plenty of trailers in stock... something to consider I guess. How's things with you??
  22. Sounds a nice machine... Jim would be the guy to sort out the trailer and connection etc. Would you say she'd be good in Birch thinnings?? I'd hope to put something like a 9-10t capacity trailer behind her.. She'd be the mutts nutts for skidding out telegraph poles too... infact, it ticks most of my boxes.
  23. Could probably get a hole cut in the plate with a blanking cover made, and an extension on trailer drawbar or pickup and use it like that.. I'm guessing it would be better to have the trailer mounted to the tractor itself rather than all the weight on the arms. Having said that I guess the butt plate would come off easily enough. Do you know if she has a PTO etc Stevie??
  24. Cheers Stevie.... certainly looks a good machine. The MB's have a great name for themselfs.. I did a job a while back with a guy who had a very very similar set up, awesome winch power! Not sure what the visibility is like out of the back of the cab for loading trailer with crane etc, might be a bit of a drawback but I dare say the guarding/box etc on the back of the cab could be re-engineered a bit to get better visibility.
  25. Is there any way a trailer could go on it whilst keeping the butt plate?? Looks in very good order... what size are the winches?
