  1. you'll need a 412/413 etc the 4.5 ton verison to get twin rear wheel. i had a 312D (3.0 turbo) a few years ago in LWB super fast, smooth ride, quiet brilliant vehicles I got from innerleithen in the borders to home in Kent in 5 1/2 hours 400 miles!! handled the weight pretty well the engine didn't seem to care much when it was loaded right up overweight either, if you have the money and patience to find one get one!
  2. when your done for the day remove one prussik and pull the rope through your top anchor the long way this will remove all the twists in the rope.
  3. not got any work for you atm but i see your into some MX where do you ride ? do you race at SMX?
  4. get your own jobs and work for other people when your own jobs aren't coming in/happening.
  5. just relax and go slow its 4 bread and butter cuts you will have done a million times just get it right, chain brake on and switch the saw off all the time, cold start on the floor and pre start checks as you would with a ground saw...can't go wrong really. do your free fall cuts first sot he tip weight makes them fall...doesn't look good when you have to push on the branch to get the piece to fall .
  6. in nasty dense conifers and such like, avoid resting the 200t in your lap whilst pulling branches around as you will burn your arms on the exhuast reaching over it, i do this alot. I'm not sure whats worse, burns or trying to pull it up again as it gets tangled in EVERYTHING.
  7. maybe so, but imo it doesn't look good, as door to door sales involving tippers and manual work etc are heavily assosciated with being a pikey and everything that goes with it, but if its working out fair enough, result with the saw too!
  8. do people not mind you knocking on their doors trying to sell them firewood? Or was it a pre arranged visit?
  9. Get climbing in your spare time, as big as you can that makes all the usual tree's seem small.practice getting work position on tricky branches, and moving around the tree fast, thats all i did quite alot of fun with no cuts to make and no 200t getting caught up behind you! if you're not fast and productive you wont get a chance to climb at work, so get practicing then show what you have learned at work when you can and the climbing opportunites should increase quite quickly.
  10. the only way we'll achieve that is if we go back to basics like int he old days all workign inthe village onlyu using resources fomthe village etc
  11. I would Cut it all then go in for a day with a 8 ton 360 and rake the stumps out and move logs the logs and brash about.
  12. does it usually increase the premium much to get that with pli?
  13. they both dot he same thing you jsut need ot decide if you value the extra comfort, speed and aesthetics of the newer ones. if you wont ever have to drive it far then you may as well get one of the older models.
  14. sorry to thread jack, but if i intend on doing tree work with a casual labourer or maybe a self employed groundy working with me do i need employers liability insurance as they wont be PAYE?

    Climbing kit

chill out guys i didn;t flame anyone i simply said 1 company was substantially cheaper than the competition last time i purchased gear further enquiries were made so i elaborated, hardly flaming. I'm no time waster and don't skimp on gear i'll buy what i determine to be the best from experience, other local people and opinions on here and other sites, but when i'm buying the best i also want it at the cheapest possible price. being a "poor student". It was a EKN/Skylotec Kolibri harness btw I also think its excellent that Jonsie comes on the forums and gives out free advice and pics and info on fresh products, However it is a simbiotic relationship. Anyway as things seem to have been confused I don;t deny that FR Jones and son is a great shop who carry loads of stock and are friendly and helpful. I think as mentioned earlier it was the exchange rate and rapdily declining economy together with unfortunate timing of buying stock that caused the wild fluctuations in price that i was just in time to exploit:biggrin:

Well, I didn't anticipate that uproar in response to my comments, but my harness was cheaper at the time of purchase, use of the word 'substantial' is a matter of opinion, i'm tight so every pound matters:sneaky2: so to me it was. But now you are cheaper on said harness:cool1:

Yes, and your shop, and when i last checked the harnesses were substantially more expensive than they were at the previously mentioned shop, along with the rest of the competition.

Winchester Garden Machinery have excellent prices, specially on harness', way cheaper than everyone else, even online.
  19. How did you get out of that one? I feel kinda silly for nearly crashing my van when a wasp appeared one morning now haha.
  20. anything, chip, crap logs, good logs, soil
  21. i can tip in kent for £10 a load if thats any help.
  22. What woudl the 8 hours on site involve, chipping and carrying logs, or just waiting for your guys to fill the truck then driving?
  23. oh, i dirve through shipborune everyday going to work. indeed I was involved in the constructyion of th ebuilding assembling the majority of it with a mini digger, also felling and processing the timber through the mobile mill etc etc..
  24. I wouldn't expect any development on that building any time soon, other than more squirrels in the huge cavities in the tree's:laugh1: its going backawrds now.Where was the show? If i'd known it was close to porc i would have gone and had a look.
