    49cc echo

A guy i worked for a while back got given 3 brand new echo saws a small one MS200 size a mid range saw and a big 80cc with 30" bar. the mid range was a bit heavy and dind;t measure up to our stihls of the same size for power to weight, or reliability. The small one was good light enough to use one handed if necessary. the big one was powerful enough but destroyed it's piston rings and lost compression after about twenty minutes of cutting twice and th eother two were always going wrong, the chains dropped alot, for no good reason this resulted in alot of time spent fixing saws instead of working. also when they arrived they had all been filled with petrol in both the petrol tank and the oil tank's
  5. I've just bought a 154 off ebay not running. I can't find anything about them on google, i guess its a mid range saw 54 cc? What are they like?
  6. Thanks, I think The light board is the stock one, I just cleaned all the rust off it and re painted it, seems to have worked How would I mount the lights under the tipper, just mak up some brackets and weld them on? Or i could make up some guards for them.
  7. New sills to go on this week thens she'll be ready for a fresh MOT and work
  8. Had this thing sitting around for best part of a year not really doing alot whilst subbing, MOT's come roubnd and it was decision time so instead of scrapping it I decided to get my act together and turn it into a decent truck, steel chip box and loads of new panels and paint, missed the early stages as i lost my phone but heres a few pics so far.

    130 mot

    No, good idea though
  10. I found the hardest parts were the stuff thats not all that common at work risk assesments and all the formalities, Riddor etc. so stay sharp on all that. you only need to tie the knots you climb with prussik and a bowline i guess. and the 3 knot system or whatever its called when you make a climbing system all out of just your climbing rope. I only had to ID a few tree's in the area we were climbing and these seemed like random off the cuff questions rather than 'serious assesment' stuff, but saying that it was all very chilled out and the same guy had taught me for 30 and 31. Just relax and enjoy it, i guess your not at work yet so you wont have any bad habits to slip into mid assesment so yuou should be fine.
  11. Wire burshed the entire underneath of my tipper body and chassis on the transit, and the rear panel with lights etc. Waited for my mate tot get home from work picked him up. Thenwe measured up and cut to the steel sheet to size and riveted it to the steel frame we welded onto the body at the weekend, the van is starting to look like something, finally! and for once managed to carry out work on the van without abuse from OAP neighbours
  12. Silky Gomtaro 240, its not about size its how you use
  13. not got a concrete date as yet, but it should be relativley soon. If anyone would potentially be up for it let me know a price in here or via PM Thanks.
  14. Practice climbing all you can, having the tickets, and being up to a reasonable pace in the tree can be worlds apart. go rec climb some real big moody tree's right to the tips and get your speed and confidence up, maybe try and get some of your own work to practice work climbing? No contractor will employ you to climb without any experience as everyone else has said. But with local authority stuff it would probably be a different story. So yeah jobs are hard to come by and will pay badly, you just need to get up in the tree's as much as you can to gain experience and start to command a better rate.
  15. Sounds like it could have an air lock, My Honda/Clarke one does this sometimes, and occasionally just plain wont spray.get all the air out of your hose and re attach and run it for a while it may sort itself out. if not have a look for some filters and stuff. you could eliminate your high pressure hose by disconnecting it and running the machine without see f te spray is consistent straight from the fitting.
  16. I'm inthe market for 2nd hand chipper i was originally looking to spend about 4-5k on one but have since been offered an old 625i with the Kohler petrol engine. it belongs to a mate's boss its old and alittle rusty but apparently still works alright. They look pretty overbuilt to me like not alot will go wrong but though ti best check on here as someones bound to have owned or used one in its formative years and can offer up some valid opinions. its only £1500 which seems awfully cheap, but if they're still good then i don;t see why i shouldn;t keep a bit more money in the bank:thumbup1:
  17. what thickness steel sheet did you use for this?
  18. Those of you with steel sided chip box, quick question how thick is th esteel you used. I've been planning one in the last few days and was gonna use 1.2mm thent he guy who is helping me build it reckoned that was too thin. So just want to know what everyone else has used, i presume with a bit of an angle iron or box section frame behind it 1.2 should be fine but i'm open to ideas/experiences. Thanks, Bill
  19. Yeah, broken chain brake ?
  20. Cheap ones off ebay! I have some Velcro ones, they're nice once they're on, much more comfy than the traditional buckle style. only trouble is they are a bit tricky to get on tight, but thats not the end of the world. deffinatley worth having imo.
  21. I like nailers idea, very user friendly. I notice alot of comments here about find it easier to branch walk with the saw clipped up. I find i can often use the saw to aid my balance when branch walking if it is hanging in the right place
  22. they're just crap, you could buy a nice new fast comfortable economical turbo charged T5 transporter for the money you'll pay for a crappy old splitty! total waste of time. my mate had a really rusty battered one he sold it afew years back for FIVE GRAND!! it was a wreck!
  23. same as that, I couldn;t help but have a little chuckle. Must have been terrifying for the poor donkey though!
