  1. Heres my gripe of the day. Priced a job which was excepted 3 weeks ago. Got a call today to cancel me as they have a cheaper quote. What sort of tit goes out getting more quotes once they have instructed a contractor to do the job?
  2. Well you know how much Chopper likes to cut loose on over seas trips. I got to keep tendering for them now! I'm sure he's still a legend amonst the pimps of Buenos Aires with his "muchos kungfu"
  3. Worked 4 doors down from my house last week, at home in the office today and hoping to get a few weeks work in Addis Abada next year which will be a 6400 mile round trip
  4. You boys got some big elms upt north. They're a thing of the past down south. Apart from the odd cornish or witch elm ours are all tidlers. Its only once in a blue moon you need to rig on or use any thing bigger than a 18 inch bar.
  5. I like the bend on that crane in your avatar. Were the buzzers going or is it just an illusion?
  6. I wouldn't be suprised if that was Innonotus dryadeus
  7. As our company grows I tend to find more and more of my time is taken up by pricing, consultancy, paper work and trying to take time out for family. Even when I am on the tools I can only be on one of the jobs happening that day. I'm confident my guys are up to the jobs I send them out on (99%of the time!), but I get so many people asking "will it be you on the job". This is often as I have been reccomended or have priced the job and they want me on the tools. I've had 2 customers getting quite funny today that I might not be on site, both jobs were around £150 plus vat which is about the smallist job we tend to take on. How do I explain that you can't do everything? Surely I'm not the only one pricing work then not doing the bulk of it. How do others handle it or do I just have fussy clients?
  8. I'd eat it if if ever found one that fresh!
  9. I used to use one 8 or 9 years ago and it was terrible. It was the truck we all hated to take out. The new ones are most likely a different beast altogether, but I wouldn't count on it.
  10. I think you should stop stressing over trucks and just get on and buy one. Whatever you get tree work will trash it
  11. You can still fit a grab by removing the locking pin and re-assembling it
  12. There is not an ideal truck for tree work. Not an engine geek myself but I just got a 2002 130 defender and had it conveted to a tipper. Came too around 12 and 1/2k all in, not much change for a tw150. I tend to use my 125ph behind the landy due to smaller chip box and the 125 is nice to tow off road. Canters are good solid trucks. everyone has said before about theit economy and the weight problems. Your gonna get varying opinions depending on other peoples experiences. You either got to decide for your self what suits you or do more work and get both.
  13. I can help out. Ifor tipper, landrover 130 tipper or a canter. I'm looking at a job up that way on wednesday if your around. Or just tapp or a local farmer to drop off a grain trailer.
  14. I hated my crapstar. Snapped front joint twice (very exciting belly sliding at 40mph) Snapped leaf spring, constantly replacing shocks and tiny cab. Tinny piece of poo
  15. Marc, did you guys brace that pine too?
  16. I just drive them to the cash piont before we clear up.
  17. If the tree is on a boundary/hedge line expect metal work.
  18. Trick is to put a stick in any hole your not using, then you can find it when the lights fading
  19. Same with washing line poles and solar lights. Always stick a bit of brash in or you'll never find the hole again.

    Ocd customer

I never ask for payment the same day it makes me feel uncomfortable. I have had 1 non paying customer. She decided that she didn't want the tree felled after all. I arranged the job with her husband but he was too spineless to stand up to me or her. In the end I felt better for telling her to keep her money as I don't deal with her sort.
  21. When I was employed I had the pleasure of using a 3120 up a tree and its a lethal task. I'll swap it for a load of logs though.

    Buckblocks

I don't like the idea of not being able to adjust the length on the rigging version
  23. Ash commands big bucks down ere for plankin
  24. I did the washing up at Eddie Vedders house, but that was only cos his mum was babysitting for us on our honey moon.
