iv noticed that they dont use the black stihl blowers any more... they where using makita blowers today?
  3. i fully understand what your at, but a tree surgeons waste is a perk of the job, just like a sparky with the left over wire / a plumber with left over cut off pipes... logs is a harder perk and thats why some are selling at high prices.some at low.. there still wages to be paid fuel to be bought and machines to be paid for... some perks are harder than others im off for a refill and to view comparethelogs.com happy cutting sawing splitting or what ever to all..
  4. so youll know the amount of man power / time / cash out lay / machinery / delivery times etc etc going into cutting chopping delivering logs. you didnt answer my questions about if you told your customers before they bought there stoves? or even after they had bought them? why did you stop selling logs and go into selling stoves? also would you still be in the market in selling stoves if log prices were to rise as much as gas and oil? weve all got to live and make money just as well as the bp and shell kings !!!! peoples prices reflect on there out goings... best of luck to all who sell logs either 25 or 120 per cube.... i know where my prices are and what they reflect:001_smile: rant over im off for a taylor made brew.... yorkshire tea:thumbup:
  5. still cheap at that price. is that to a garden centre?
  6. so that means if logs have a sky high price, your potential customers wont buy from you? do you tell your customers about the price of wood before you sell them a stove? do you tell them if they get there wood free it will cost them nothing to run there stoves apart from (a little time and brute force) also if they have to pay for there wood it will might be cheaper to keep there gas or oil? if youve ever tried doing and selling firewood youll know where the prices come from? its hard graft
  7. may i ask what kind of splitter is this? and is this all on your own? just that 4 cubes alot for a single person cutting and splitting arb waste in 2 hours

  11. speak to the house manager, see what the problem is? and if possible try to better things? in some cases, its the residents who really get the say, in there weekly meeting that they hold.. ask questions and try to get answers.. dont jump in with both feet, (and leave).. it could be something thats easy to change or do... best of luck:thumbup1:

  15. i do 8 large residential contracts, and imo id rather be out there working, than sitting waiting for the phone to ring and running around quoting and not getting the jobs:sneaky2: for me its guaranteed money and work every month (12 months of the year). saves fuel/time and can aslo fit in the regular jobs to.
  16. this stuff is what i use.. works every time. free advertising to lol:thumbup1:
  17. commercial contracts is what i find best. less running about if you get a few and same jobs, diff day .. try getting the contacts over 12 months and not just durring the spring and summer.
  18. chris this is from the web mate it all depends on how thick you put it down and its state of composition. fresh clippings put on to thick will start to compost producing very high temperatures which can cook the root systems, especially of young plants. again to thick and it can clump together preventing water getting through and also starve the roots of oxygen. the best mulch is an already composted mixture of coarse and fine materials no more than 10cm thick spreading from 20cm out from the trunk to the drip line of the canopy. it helps insulate the roots from cold and hot temps and prevents exsesive evaporation as well as keeps back weeds and grass. if all your trying to do is dispose of excess clippings then your probably putting as much around each tree as you can and id avoid it. if you really want to improve the health of the trees then a proper composted mulch is a far better option and if you talk to your customers about this there could definately be an extra earner there for you to.
  19. easy..... go to small plant breakers second hand 25 quid complete set up...
  20. i tend to find the reason why some people go for the cheapest quote is because some people feel or need to have there hedges done twice a year? and paying for the same job twice a year can be off putting.. as for tree work, this only gets done once or every few years... imo its all about having a good look at the works to be carried out, and not just a quick guess... some hegdes can produce alot of waste... measure twice cut once... oh yeh i charge by the job:001_smile:
  21. tony any briggs and stratton engine will do, all b/s engines have the same mounting brackets.. bolt off and new bolt on.. just get a b/s sp470 engine 4.5hp.. way you go:thumbup:
  22. tony is that the briggs and stratton quantum engine ? a mountfield engine b/s should fit?
  23. belts bearings engine nice little chippers them.... dont like wet conifer thou take a few 3inch bits of hardwood say 3 foot long and whack them through. best of luck:thumbup1: quite hard to get a hold of 2nd hand too
  24. could have been a practice run with newbys? on a condemmed tree... I not going to diss them, just hope there there to pull me out the crap one day..
